Bob Woodward: Jim Mattis and John Kelly ‘Trying to Protect Their Jobs’ By Denying Quotes

Have you heard that Pulitzer Prize-winning author Bob Woodward has a new book out? It’s entitled Fear, and it describes the “harrowing” management style of an unhinged and occasionally paranoid President Donald Trump, and includes numerous vignettes alleging specific quotes from senior White House staffers. Woodward appeared on Today, where he received some reasonable pushback from host Savanah Guthrie, specifically regarding alleged quotes attributed to Defense Secretary James Mattis and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly. Mattis is reported to have compared the Commander in Chief’s petulant style to a “fifth grader,” while Kelly called him an “idiot” according to Woodward’s book. Both have since denied these claims, which leads us to Today. Guthrie challenged Woodward over the conflicting reports who claimed that the two very senior leaders in the Trump administration are only “trying to protect their jobs” by denying such quotes, while still standing Continue reading "Bob Woodward: Jim Mattis and John Kelly ‘Trying to Protect Their Jobs’ By Denying Quotes"

Bill Maher Believes Gen. John Kelly is Op-Ed Writer: I Bet The McCain Funeral Was ‘The Last Straw’

On Friday night, Bill Maher weighed in on the controversial New York Times op-ed written by an anonymous senior Trump administration official. Maher began by asking his panel who they thought who was behind the op-ed. Former congressman Charlie Dent (R-PA) suspected DNI Dan Coates, New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg believed it was a staffer of a prominent senior official, while former Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod invoked Murder on the Orient Express and said everyone in the White House wrote a sentence of the piece. Then the Real Time host shared his thoughts. “I think it’s Gen. [John] Kelly. I do,” Maher declared. “First of all, I think the McCain funeral was the last straw for a lot of people and he’s the kind of guy who- look, he’s not been happy for a very long time… the list of people who’ve called the president Continue reading "Bill Maher Believes Gen. Ivanka and Jared Reportedly Pointed Fingers at John Kelly for NYT Op-Ed: ‘He’s Destroying Your Presidency’

In the aftermath of the New York Times anonymous op-ed and Trump-damaging Woodward book, White House power couple Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump reportedly pointed fingers directly at one of their favorite foes, chief of staff John Kelly. With all the dripping leaks around the West Wing, Kushner and First Daughter Trump have tried to contain the situation themselves. They also have been telling President Donald Trump that Kelly is to blame for “destroying” Trump’s presidency. According to Vanity Fair:
Earlier this week, they told Trump they were deeply troubled by the accounts in Woodward’s book and blamed Chief of Staff John Kelly for many of the leaks, an outside adviser close to them told me. “‘He’s destroying your presidency,’” Ivanka told her father, the outside adviser, who was briefed on the conversation, said. Their hunt for the author of the Times op-ed may bring them into the final Continue reading "Ivanka and Jared Reportedly Pointed Fingers at John Kelly for NYT Op-Ed: ‘He’s Destroying Your Presidency’"

Former Nixon WH Counsel John Dean on Trump’s Demand NYT Turn Over Op-Ed Writer: ‘Frighteningly Dictatorial’

The man who helped bring down Richard Nixon, former Nixon White House Counsel John Dean had a strong reaction to President Donald Trump‘s tweet calling for the New York Times to turn over the name of the author of their anonymous op-ed. He called it “frighteningly dictatorial.” Speaking with Don Lemon on Wednesday night, Dean was responding to this tweet: “That is frighteningly dictatorial,” Dean said after Lemon read the tweet on-air. “It’s not going to happen in our system. It’s like his tweets over the weekend where he wanted to have two congressmen — criticize his Continue reading "Former Nixon WH Counsel John Dean on Trump’s Demand NYT Turn Over Op-Ed Writer: ‘Frighteningly Dictatorial’"

John Kelly Denies Calling Trump an Idiot

The White House’s response to Bob Woodward‘s book is out, and in addition to the more general pushback from Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Chief of Staff John Kelly is now on record denying that he ever called President Donald Trump an idiot. To recap, Woodward’s book Fear contains revelations about the frustrations many in the White House have regarding President Trump’s temperament: Inside the White House, Woodward portrays an unsteady executive detached from the conventions of governing and prone to snapping at high-ranking staff members, whom he unsettled and belittled on a daily basis.
White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly frequently lost his temper and told colleagues that he thought the president was “unhinged,” Woodward writes. In one small group meeting, Kelly said of Trump: “He’s an idiot. It’s pointless to try to convince him of anything. He’s gone off the rails. We’re in Crazytown. John Kelly Raged Against Trump in Woodward Book: He’s an Off-The-Rails ‘Idiot,’ ‘Worst Job I’ve Ever Had’

Known for his track record of groundbreaking scoops, Bob Woodward‘s latest book is no exception. Fear, a forthcoming tell-all on the inner workings of President Donald Trump‘s administration, reveals a White House fraught with conflict, bitterness and frustration from the top down. According to The Washington Post where Woodward is an associate editor, the commander in chief’s own staffers can’t seem to rein him in — feeling all but helpless as he fires off his trademark tweetstorms, mocks colleagues and rails against the Mueller probe by which he’s been plagued for months. Woodward described the executive branch as suffering a “nervous breakdown,” the president’s own chief of staff, John Kelly, appearing to regret he’d even accepted a position in the Trump administration. “He’s an idiot,” Kelly once said of Trump during a meeting, according to the book. “It’s pointless to try to convince him of anything. Dan Abrams: White House May Classify Taped Conversations to Keep Omarosa From Releasing Them

Of all the shocking details revealed by Omarosa Manigault this weekend, the most unbelievable is that she flouted national security rules in secretly recording Chief of Staff John Kelly’s firing of her in the highly secure Situation Room. But wait, there’s more! Omarosa is claiming to have recorded many White House conversations, the contents of which may or may not be politically damaging to the White House. But according to ABC’s Chief Legal Analyst Dan Abrams, Omarosa may not be able to release these recordings if the White House decides to retroactively classify all conversations, regardless of the subject matter. The Mediaite founder opened his segment with anchor David Muir by claiming that it may have been wrong and a violation of rules for the former Apprentice contestant turned Senior Advisor to the President to have made these recordings, there was nothing that he saw that was explicitly illegal. But with Continue reading "Dan Abrams: White House May Classify Taped Conversations to Keep Omarosa From Releasing Them"
