On MSNBC on Thursday night, host Rachel Maddow covered the big news about President Trump‘s apparent intent to sign the bill keeping the government open, and to use an emergency declaration to obtain funds for building the wall on the southern border. And she singled out Republican politicians who previously stated their opposition to such a plan. Maddow noted the plan was outlined but asked, “honestly, is that actually going to happen?” “The White House says it’s going to happen,” she said. “But in this presidency, is anything really done and dusted before Fox & Friends says it’s done and dusted? I mean, we never know exactly what the president is going to do, whether or not the White House has announced some purported plan.” “But of course just the prospect, just the threat of President Trump trying to do this wall thing with a declaration of Continue reading "Maddow Runs Montage of GOPers Stating Opposition to Emergency Declaration: What Are They Going to Say Now?"

Cherokee Nation Citizen and Expert Destroys Warren on MSNBC: She ‘Has Zero Cherokee Ancestry’

On MSNBC’s AM Joy on Sunday, host Joy Reid discussed with her guests both the Tweet by President Donald Trump directed at Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Warren’s own claims of Native American ancestry. Rebecca Nagle, a women’s advocate and member of the Cherokee nation who joined by phone, spared no criticism of either politician. Guest Michelle Goldberg, in the clip above, responded to Nagle’s remarks earlier in the segment by first disclosing that her husband works with Sen. Warren, then offered the line that Warren has been running with for some time about having merely been speaking to what her family told her growing up. “I just want to say that Elizabeth Warren did, in fact, have a native American ancestor, and grew up believing this was part of her heritage and kind of identified with it,” said Goldberg. “I think she was mistaken and she obviously Continue reading "Cherokee Nation Citizen and Expert Destroys Warren on MSNBC: She ‘Has Zero Cherokee Ancestry’"

AM Joy Takes on Right Wing Reax to Trump Caving: ‘When Lou Dobbs is the Voice of Reason? Katy Bar the Door’

Some on the right are in serious denial about Donald Trump‘s decision to cave in on his border wall and reopen the government, as Joy Reid and her panel pointed out by noting that lavishly pro-Trump Lou Dobbs had to be the “voice of reason” this week. On Sunday morning’s edition of MSNBC’s AM Joy, Reid played a clip of former Trump senior adviser Sebastian Gorka calling Trump’s cave a “masterstroke,” only to be derided by Dobbs. “You are talking about the woman that’s the Queen of the Hill, partner,” Dobbs said to Gorka, and added “On this broadcast, she’s the winner.” “When Lou Dobbs is the voice of reason, Katy, bar the door!” said an amused Reid. She then twisted the knife by playing right-wing takes on Trump’s cave from the likes of Ann Coulter and Judge Jeanine Pirro, plus another clip of Dobbs Continue reading "AM Joy Takes on Right Wing Reax to Trump Caving: ‘When Lou Dobbs is the Voice of Reason? The weaponizing of embarrassing old social media posts has found a new target: CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins. On Sunday, the pro-LGBT, GOP group Log Cabin Republicans called out Collins for using a gay slur and disparaging lesbians in tweets dating back to 2011. Collins took to Twitter to issue an apology. “When I was in college, I used ignorant language in a few tweets to my friends,” Collins tweeted. “It was immature but it doesn’t represent the way I Continue reading "CNN’s Kaitlan Collins is the Latest Target of a Nasty and Dishonest Social Media Smear Campaign"

Joy Reid Sued For Defamation By Trump Supporter She Claimed Lobbed Racial Slur at Teen

A California woman has filed a defamation lawsuit against MSNBC host Joy Reid for spreading the false claim on social media that she lobbed a racial slur at a 14-year-old boy. Reid spread a viral photo on her social media pages in June that showed the woman, Roslyn La Liberte, wearing a MAGA hat and apparently screaming in the direction of a young boy at a city council meeting. In now-deleted posts, Reid wrote that La Liberte “showed up [to the meeting], in her MAGA hat, and screamed, ‘You are going to be the first deported’ … ‘ dirty Mexican!'” According to La Liberte, however, her conversation with 14-year-old Joseph Luevanos was “civil” and the two hugged afterwards. What’s more, at the time Luevanos told reporters, “she was still trying to keep it civil which I appreciate.” In La Liberte’s lawsuit against Reid, filed on Tuesday Continue reading "Joy Reid Sued For Defamation By Trump Supporter She Claimed Lobbed Racial Slur at Teen"

Joy Reid and Panel Rip Anonymous Op-Ed Author: Wants to ‘Be Fitted for Their Superman Cape’

MSNBC’s Joy Reid this morning acknowledged she’s generally not in agreement with Sarah Huckabee Sanders, but said there actually is something concerning about the anonymous Trump administration official who wrote the New York Times op-ed this week. The author said they’re part of a “resistance” within the White House to rein in Trump’s worst impulses, though Reid said, “Of course, steering the administration in the right direction didn’t involve stopping the separation and caging of immigrant children or using the constitutional option of removing Trump by the 25th amendment. No, the right direction is apparently the one where the resistor gets to preserve the things they like. You know, tax cuts for the rich and deregulation of big business. The writer is basically every Republican in Washington.” Former DOJ spokesman Matthew Miller said that the solution to Trump’s actions in office is not trying to undermine him “through Continue reading "Joy Reid and Panel Rip Anonymous Op-Ed Author: Wants to ‘Be Fitted for Their Superman Cape’"

Omarosa Manigault Newman appeared on MSNBC again this morning, speaking with Joy Reid about her book and the latest Trumpworld developments of the week. Manigault Newman talked about Steve Bannon being a “proud white man” and expressed her alarm at the alt-right influences in the White House. One of the people in Trump’s orbit Reid asked about was David Pecker, the American Media CEO and National Enquirer publisher who was granted immunity this week. Manigault Newman talked about the Enquirer‘s disturbing report about her brother’s murder and how Trump talked to her about finding a “better resolution.” Reid asked her at one point if she was “surprised” that Michael Cohen turned on Trump. “I adore Michael Cohen,” Manigault Newman said. “And I am sad to see him going through what he’s going through. I adore his wife. His daughter was my intern at the White House. She’s Continue reading "Omarosa: Michael Cohen Did What He Was Asked to Do, Now Trump’s Kicking Him While He’s Down"

Checking in on That ‘Investigation’ Into Joy Reid’s Hacker

It’s been more than three months since Joy Reid responded to anti-gay posts unearthed from her old blog by claiming that she was the victim of a nefarious hacker. As more embarrassing posts were unearthed — the majority of the offensive content included various anti-gay and anti-Muslim commentary — reporters pressed the liberal MSNBC host, her network, and her alleged cybersecurity expert on the hacking excuse. Despite the ludicrous explanation — the few concrete instances she provided as evidence of hacking fell apart under scrutiny — Reid stood by her assertions and her lawyer (not NBC’s) told reporters the FBI had been tapped to investigate. Following the near-universal skepticism that met her claims, there was the strange apology episode of AM Joy, where Reid quasi-admitted to screwing up, saying she “truly believed” she had not written the posts, and had a panel of LGBT rights activists take turns forgiving Continue reading "Checking in on That ‘Investigation’ Into Joy Reid’s Hacker"

Art of the Deal Writer: Dems Should Be Asking People ‘Do You Want Putin to Be President’ or an American?

Tony Schwartz, the co-author of The Art of the Deal, had some advice for President Trump‘s opponents after this big Russia-centric week. Schwartz spoke this morning with MSNBC’s Joy Reid, who brought up how very similar Trump’s political rhetoric in the 80s compares to him today. Schwartz said current Trump is “diminished” and “unraveling,” saying the kind of pressure on Trump between the “investigations closing in on him” and the general stresses of the presidency don’t add up to anything good. “What happens to a person who’s psychologically unstable in that situation is that they begin to double down on all the things they’ve always done,” Schwartz said. “He’s living inside his reality.” He told Reid Trump’s “paranoia” has only heightened, said “Putin owns Trump,” and advised the media to just accept that the President lies, tell the audience that, and move on as opposed Continue reading "Art of the Deal Writer: Dems Should Be Asking People ‘Do You Want Putin to Be President’ or an American?"

MSNBC Guest on Bannon’s Claim Trump Isn’t Racist: Shouldn’t Ask ‘A Racist if Someone Else is Racist’

Tara Dowdell, a former contestant on The Apprentice, laid into former WH Chief Strategist Steve Bannon on AM Joy Saturday. Host Joy Reid asked Dowdell if as a contestant on The Apprentice she felt then-show host Donald Trump was racist and played a clip of Bannon defending him. “This guy is not a racist. He’s one of the most loving guys I’ve ever met. He’s a tough guy but I’ve never seen him as a racist. One thing I would say about populism, this kind of populist, nationalist movement you see throughout Europe, it is not racist,” Bannon told Piers Morgan. “Well, asking a racist if someone else is racist, I’m not sure how there’s any credence that should be given to Steve Bannon of all people,” Dowdell said after the clip. “He … helped to develop and execute Trump’s racist strategy. It’s one thing to be racist. Continue reading "MSNBC Guest on Bannon’s Claim Trump Isn’t Racist: Shouldn’t Ask ‘A Racist if Someone Else is Racist’"

MSNBC host Joy Ann Reid — who appears to have just survived her now-infamous “hacked” homophobic blog posts scandal — accused her own network of “slow walking” a sexual assault story she was working on by making “stupid” demands during the fact-checking process. The accusation was revealed in a story from The Hollywood Reporter on the rape and assault allegations made against the powerful music mogul Russell Simmons. One of the half dozen misconduct claims comes against Simmons from domestic violence advocate Sil Lai Abrams, who says he raped her in 1994 — an allegation she was ready to bring forward in a TV interview with Reid. “I needed to tell my story, to say his name out loud, to let people know what he had done to me,” Abrams said of her claims against Simmons. However, her story was never told on MSNBC, as the cable news network eventually Continue reading "Joy Reid Accused MSNBC of ‘Slow Walking’ Her Story About Russell Simmons Sexual Assault Accuser"

On Saturday, religious reform activist and Christian Frank Schaeffer shredded Sarah Sanders and others in the Trump administration using the Bible to justify ripping apart kids from their families at the nation’s borders. “You know, what’s going on today is very clearly giving us a dividing line in our culture, and I would just put it this way,” Christians who still support Trump who is separating mothers from babies are now condoning a form of child abuse,” Schaeffer said. Then, he accused them of not only going against the teachings of Jesus but being downright “Jesus-hating.” “As a Christian, I can just say I can’t think of anything that would be more Jesus-hating. this isn’t just Jesus-disobeying, this is Jesus-hating,” Schaeffer pressed on, calling out his fellow believers. He then warned: “So, there are going to be repercussions for the Republican Party that has gone along, like pimps of Continue reading "Christian Activist Shreds ‘Pimps of Evil’ in GOP For Child Migrant Policy: ‘White Evangelical Voters’ Are the Problem"

Art of the Deal Co-Author Blasts Trump’s ‘Deranged’ Praise of Kim Jong Un: POTUS ‘Lacks a Soul’

On Saturday, MSNBC’s Joy Reid sat down with Art of the Deal co-author Tony Schwartz to talk about President Donald Trump‘s recent defense of brutal, human rights trampling North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Earlier this week, Trump was asked by Fox News’ Bret Baier about the “killer” despot and how he can continue to say nice things about him despite all the bad things he has done. Trump replied, saying this: “Yeah, but so have a lot of other people have done some really bad things.” Referencing that remark, Reid asked Schwartz about Trump’s praise of Kim Jong Un including going so far as to call Kim a “smart guy.” Schwartz replied, “Only a person with no conscience could say that…That is deranged.” Reid then asked Schwartz if, when working with him, he ever heard Trump express gentleness or empathy. Schwartz responded by saying Trump Continue reading "Art of the Deal Co-Author Blasts Trump’s ‘Deranged’ Praise of Kim Jong Un: POTUS ‘Lacks a Soul’"

CNBC’s John Harwood Concerned About Trump’s ‘State of Mind’ After Presser: ‘He Did Not Look Well’

President Trump‘s press conference this morning at the G-7 summit was so stunning to the panel on MSNBC’s AM Joy that they wondered if the President is well. Trump today stood by his call to reinstate Russia in the G-7, blamed Barack Obama for the annexation of Crimea, and he also got in a few shots at the “fake news,” CNN in particular. Joy Reid brought up the tariff discussion before CNBC’s John Harwood brought things to Trump’s state of mind:
“I’ll be honest, as a citizen, I’m concerned about the President’s state of mind. He did not look well to me in that press conference. He was not speaking logically or rationally. It sounded as if he was making stuff us, saying, you know, China told me nobody’s ever talked to us or saying, ‘Oh, you know, I talked to Justin Trudeau,’ and he can’t believe he was Continue reading "CNBC’s John Harwood Concerned About Trump’s ‘State of Mind’ After Presser: ‘He Did Not Look Well’"

Embattled MSNBC host Joy Reid‘s woes show no sign of abating. As offensive blog posts continue to be unearthed, a new report which quotes Reid’s co-workers from her time as a radio host in Florida roughly a decade ago revealed the liberal pundit created a pretty hostile work environment. During Reid’s brief stint as a co-host and producer on “Wake Up South Florida” on radio station WTPS 1080 AM in 2006, she created a “toxic” work environment, superiors said. One told Fox News she was an “evil woman” during that time. Reid’s co-host on the show spoke out to Fox News about her behavior:
Andre Eggelletion, former lead host of the morning show with Reid, recently spoke out about her for the first time in more than a decade, saying Reid created “the most toxic work environment I’ve ever experienced” and threatened him with violence. “It was a very Continue reading "MSNBC’s Joy Reid Threatened Violence and Made Anti-Gay Jokes on Radio, Old Coworkers Claim"

Joy Reid Shouldn’t Be Fired, She Should Resign

A death by a thousand blog posts. That describes the tarnished career of MSNBC host Joy Reid. It seems that day after day after day, more hateful, bigoted, or down-right crazy articles Reid authored on her now-defunct blog keep surfacing. Here’s a recap: Back in December, Mediaite first reported about homophobic blog posts Reid had written years ago long before joined MSNBC. At the time, she gave an apology. However, when Mediaite reported on an even larger trove of homophobic remarks from her blog in April, not only did she not apologized, she made a stunning claim that they were “fabricated” by hackers. NBC went along with it and they even allegedly got the FBI involved. The reason why her claim was so unbelievable was because these blog posts were preserved by the internet archiving service The Wayback Machine and they themselves refuted Reid’s assertion the their archive was somehow hacked. And Continue reading "Joy Reid Shouldn’t Be Fired, She Should Resign"

On CNN’s Reliable Sources, host Brian Stelter discussed the recent controversy over unearthed controversial blog posts by MSNBC’s Joy Reid, and a panel consisting of Mary Katharine Ham of The Federalist, David Zurowik of the Baltimore Sun, Democratic strategist Maria Cardona, and Matt Lewis of The Daily Beast. The panel dismissed the notion that this story was a distraction, saying that it was made recent and relevant by Reid’s previous story about hacking. Stelter said the hacking story is a question of credibility. “We don’t know if she’s lying,” he said, “but it looks like that.” Zurowik referred to that “alleged lie” as being “nutty,” and the “kind of thing you make up when you’re really desperate.” “It reminds me of the Anthony Weiner issue,” said Cardona. “He kept claiming that he was hacked. That’s not a good memory for people to have when Continue reading "CNN Panel Rips Joy Reid Over ‘Nutty’ Hacking Claims: ‘Reminds Me of the Anthony Weiner Issue’"

On Saturday morning, CNN host Pamela Brown took aim MSNBC host Joy Reid for her ongoing blog controversies. Brown began by slamming Reid for “having nothing to say” when she went without mentioning her recently uncovered blog posts on her weekend morning show AM Joy. CNN media analyst Bill Carter called it a “troubling situation” for Reid and MSNBC, saying that them simply wanting to move on is their “strategy.” “Look, I believe in, you know, the power of redemption and people should be able to say that was something I regret,” Carter said. “And I believed Joy. I think she’s a very talented anchor, but I think it’s a troubling situation that keeps coming forward. And certainly the aspect of the hacking, which she hasn’t really addressed, you know, leaves me with a lot of questions about this and it also leaves me with questions how NBC is Continue reading "CNN’s Pamela Brown Hits Joy Reid For ‘Sort Of Taking Ownership’ After Hacking Claims: ‘That Was a Lie!’"

MSNBC host Joy Reid made no mention of the ongoing controversy surrounding her old blog on her weekend program. AM Joy covered a lot in two hours, including President Trump‘s ongoing peace talks with North Korea, the latest developments in the Mueller probe, and the recent pardon of conservative Dinesh D’Souza, but did not cover the articles from her defunct blog that have surfaced this week including the ones that pushed 9/11 conspiracy theories and depicted Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) as the Virginia Tech shooter. She may not have addressed them to her viewers, but she did issue this apology in response to those newly-discovered posts on Friday:
While I published my blog, starting in 2005, I wrote thousands of posts in real time on the issues of the day. There are things I deeply regret and am embarrassed by, things I would have said differently and issues Continue reading "Joy Reid Does Not Address Her Latest Blog Controversies On-Air"
