Meredith Watson, who less than two weeks ago accused Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax of raping her when they were both Duke University students back in 2000, says she is now willing to publicly testify against him. In an op-ed for the Washington Post, Watson laments a “culture of sexual assault, harassment, and the disempowerment of women” promoted by leaders and organizations that refuse to take action against suspects of crimes against women. Watson accuses the Virginia General Assembly of refusing to take the “simple and responsible step” of holding a public hearing, and says she turned down offers from multiple politicians who said they would support her if she went on record about her rape for partisan purposes. “Likewise, I have refused to make this a financial issue by suing for compensation,” Watson writes. “I have refused to make it a law-enforcement issue. Despite nearly 100 offers Continue reading "Fairfax Accuser Meredith Watson Speaks Out in Op-Ed, Says She’s ‘Willing to Testify in Public’"

Staffers to Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) are reportedly starting to resign. Fairfax himself is refusing to step down following two accusations of sexual assault against him in the past week. He has denied both accusations and said he’s being targeted by a smear campaign. Per the Richmond Times-Dispatch, staffers in Fairfax’s office and people who work in his PAC are resigning:
Two of the three government staffers to Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax and two employees of his political action committee resigned following news Friday of a second sexual assault allegation against him… On the government side, Adele McClure, the policy director, resigned, as did Julia Billingsly, the scheduling director.

Fairfax told the Washington Post in an new interview he’s not going anywhere. The lawmaker who was planning to introduce articles of impeachment has backed off for now. [image via screengrab]

Justin Fairfax, the lieutenant governor of Virginia, has been accused of sexual assault by two women. Many Democrats, including the Virginia Democratic Party, have called on him to resign, but in a new interview last night he said again he will not step down. Vanessa Tyson and Meredith Watson have spoken out with these serious allegations against Fairfax in the past week. Fairfax has denied both, and in a statement issued after Watson went public, he said, “It is obvious that a vicious and coordinated smear campaign is being orchestrated against me.” Fairfax spoke to the Washington Post and said he is “standing up for due process”:
The two women deserve to be heard, but at the same time, he deserves due process, Fairfax said. “Even in the most difficult times, including ones like these, that’s when it’s most important to adhere to our highest values as Continue reading "Virginia Lt. The attorney for Meredith Watson, the second woman accusing Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault, has released a new statement tonight responding to his denial and detailing an alleged conversation between them. The statement responds to Fairfax “smearing” Watson “with the typical ‘she’s nuts’ defense.” Watson was allegedly raped during her sophomore year, and as her attorney says, “Mr. Fairfax then used this prior assault against Ms. Watson”:
“She left a campus party when he arrived, and he followed her out. She turned and asked: ‘Why did you do it?’ Mr. Fairfax answered: ‘I knew that because of what happened to you last year, you’d be too afraid to say anything.'”
Fairfax has denied the allegation and called for an investigation. He said he does not plan to resign, but after Watson went public a number of Democrats have called on him to do Continue reading "Attorney for Fairfax Accuser Reveals Alleged Conversation Between Them, Responds to ‘Smears’"

Democratic Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of Virginia was accused of sexual assault by a second woman on Friday, just before Fox News show The Five went live. A woman went on record Friday to claim that Fairfax raped her in 2000 when they were students at Duke University, an allegation that throws the leadership of Virginia into even more turmoil as Governor Ralph Northam faces a blackface scandal. As Fox News’ Dana Perino noted on air that former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe was calling for Fairfax’s “immediate resignation,” co-host Juan Williams asked, “How do you navigate these very tricky waters?” “You don’t want to be unfair to Fairfax in the way that we haven’t wanted to be unfair, at least on the Republican side, to Kavanaugh,” Williams said. “Without due process, there is no process,” Greg Gutfeld agreed. “It doesn’t matter what side anybody’s on, we’re all on the Continue reading "The Five Hosts Urge ‘Due Process’ in Allegations Against Justin Fairfax: ‘Innocent Until Proven Guilty’"

Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax has a statement out denying the second allegation of sexual assault against him and claiming he is the target of a “vicious and coordinated smear campaign.” A second woman came forward today accusing Fairfax of raping her in 2000. Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe is now calling on Fairfax to resign. In a statement late this afternoon, Fairfax says, “It is demonstrably false. I have never forced myself on anyone ever. I demand a full investigation into these unsubstantiated and false allegations. Such an investigation will confirm my account because I am telling the truth.” He says he will clear his name and goes on to claim there is a “vicious and coordinated smear campaign [that] is being orchestrated against me.” Fairfax concludes by saying he will not resign.

Former Democratic Governor of Virginia Terry McAuliffe called for Justin Fairfax‘s “immediate resignation” shortly after a second woman came forward to accuse the lieutenant governor of sexual assault. An attorney for Meredith Watson claimed in a statement Friday Fairfax raped her in 2000 when the two were students at Duke University. Watson’s lawyer wrote that the attack was “premeditated and aggressive,” and added that they have “statements from former classmates corroborating that Ms. Watson immediately told friends that Mr. Fairfax had raped her.” McAuliffe, a Democrat who served as Virginia’s governor from 2014 to 2018, called for Fairfax’s resignation in a tweet on Friday. “The allegations against Justin Fairfax are serious and credible,” he wrote. “It is clear to me that he can no longer effectively serve the people of Virginia as Lieutenant Governor. I call for his immediate resignation.”

A profile piece on Dr. Vanessa Tyson gives focus to a group of colleagues who are backing up her sexual assault allegations against Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax (D). The New York Times interviewed five people who worked with Tyson and claim that she told them that someone sexually assaulted her at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Tyson didn’t tell anyone about the assault back when it happened in 2004, but the interviewees said her allegations against Fairfax match with what she told them, even if she alternated between “[identifying] the assailant as Mr. Fairfax, a lieutenant governor, or a politician on the rise.” Professors Elizabeth Armstrong and Jennifer Freyd attended a Stanford fellowship program with Tyson when she told them about her ordeal, and Armstrong said “what she told us was pretty much exactly what was in the statement that she released but with vastly less detail.” Continue reading "Five Colleagues of Justin Fairfax’s Sexual Accuser Support Her Story: ‘She’s Not Doing This for Any Fame’"

As Virginia Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax (D) is reeling from an allegation of sexual misconduct, 2020 presidential candidate and Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) said Thursday that she believes his accuser is credible and there should be an investigation. “I think there should be an investigation to determine what happened,”she told reporters. “Certainly her letter reads — it’s quite detailed — and suggests that there’s credibility there. But there needs to be an investigation to determine what exactly happened.” She did not go as far as calling for Fairfax to step down, saying “the most important thing that needs to happen is that the people of Virginia need to make that decision. That’s where I am on it.” In a letter, Dr. Vanessa Tyson, a college professor, told her side of the story on what happened on the 2004 incident in question.

Lt. Gov. Fairfax Demands Retraction Over ‘False’ Reports He Used Profanity About Assault Accuser

The legal team for Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) has sent a cease and desist letter to NBC after several of their journalists reported that he disparaged his sexual assault accuser in a recent, closed-door meeting. Richmond Times-Dispatch has learned that Fairfax’s lawyer, Rakesh Kilaru, is demanding a retraction after NBC reporters Kasie Hunt and Jonathan Allen tweeted that Fairfax said “f*ck that bitch” with reference to Vanessa Tyson. Tyson claims Fairfax forced himself on her in 2004, having released a graphic description of the assault that allegedly took place. Kilaru’s letter reportedly says that NBC’s reporters originally told Fairfax’s communications team that they would “be pulling the initial false reports” of the Lt. governor’s supposedly profane language. Nonetheless, the story of Fairfax’s private meeting blew up following the tweets from Hunt and Allen, which are still online as of this writing. From the letter

Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) knew of the sexual allegations made against Virginia Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax (D) more than a year ago, according to a new ABC News report published on Wednesday. And according to the report, which was based on accounts of Scott’s aides, the Congressman learned about the accusations of sexual misconduct from the accuser herself. ABC News reports:
“In late December 2017 and early January 2018, aides to Scott said he learned that it was Tyson herself who was involved in a ‘MeToo allegation, concerning Fairfax. She also informed him that she had already told the Washington Post about an alleged incident involving Fairfax and that she had given the Post Congressman Scott’s name as a character witness.”
Fairfax has denied the veracity of the allegations made by Tyson. Scott issued a statement to ABC responding to the contents of the report noting, “Vanessa has Continue reading "Fairfax Accuser Reportedly Told VA Rep. Bobby Scott About Sexual Assault Claim More Than a Year Ago"

COOL TIMELINE: Lt. Gov. Fairfax Hired Brett Kavanaugh’s Law Firm. His Accuser Hired Christine Blasey-Ford’s.

Stanford professor Vanessa Tyson, who has publicly accused Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault, hired Katz, Marshall & Banks to represent her, NBC News reported Wednesday. That’s the same firm that represented Christine Blasey Ford, the university professor who accused Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault. It’s a strange coincidence, made even strangeer by news that Fairfax himself retained the services of Wilkinson Walsh + Eskovitz, the firm that represented Kavanaugh. “I can confirm that I and my firm have been representing the Lieutenant Governor since January 2018,” the firm told a local NPR station earlier this week. Tyson went public with her allegation on Wednesday, releasing a harrowing statement that detailed her claim of sexual assault. “Mr. Fairfax put his hand behind my neck and forcefully pushed my head towards his crotch,” Tyson said in the statement, released by her lawyers. “As I Continue reading "COOL TIMELINE: Lt. Dr. Vanessa Tyson, the college professor who has accused Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault, has released a lengthy statement on her allegation with disturbing details. “What began as consensual kissing quickly turned into a sexual assault,” she says. “Mr. Fairfax put his hand behind my neck and forcefully pushed my head towards his crotch. Only then did I realize that he had unbuckled his belt, unzipped his pants, and taken out his penis. He then forced his penis into my mouth. Utterly shocked and terrified, I tried to move my head away, but could not because his hand was holding down my neck and he was much stronger than me. As I cried and gagged, Mr. Fairfax forced me to perform oral sex on him. I cannot believe, given my obvious distress, that Mr. Fairfax thought this forced sexual act was consensual. To be very clear, Continue reading "BREAKING: Lt. Gov. Fairfax’s Accuser Releases Harrowing Statement Detailing Alleged Sexual Assault"

If the Virginia’s Top Three Officials Are Out, the Next in Line Is… A Republican

In light of the controversy engulfing the top officials in Virginia’s state government, it’s possible that the state could fall out of Democratic hands and into Republican leadership. Governor Ralph Northam is still embroiled in the controversy of a racist photo resurfaced from his 1984 yearbook, prompting calls from virtually every Democrat that matters for his resignation. Today, Attorney General Mark Herring admitted that he once wore blackface while Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax is reportedly using profanity against his sexual assault accuser behind closed doors. There’s no telling if this flurry of scandal will bring down the three heads of Virginia, but if it does, it’s worth considering the fact that Kirk Cox, the House of Delegates Speaker and 4th in line for the governorship, is a Republican. From Article V, Section 16 of Virginia’s Constitution:
The Speaker of the House of Delegates, if he is eligible to serve Continue reading "If the Virginia’s Top Three Officials Are Out, the Next in Line Is… A Republican"

So perhaps it’s a slight understatement for Warner to tell reporters, “This has been an awful week for Virginia.” He said he was “shocked and incredibly disappointed” in Continue reading "VA Sen. Virginia Lt. Gov Fairfax Reportedly Says ‘F*ck That Bitch’ in Private Meeting on Accuser; Staff Denies Story

Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax just released a new denial of the sexual assault charge that’s been raised against him, and it seems to come on the heels of emerging reports that he is privately disparaging his accuser, Dr. Vanessa Tyson. The state government of Virginia has been under siege for the last few days due to a flurry of controversy surrounding their top officials. Tyson has accused Fairfax of assaulting her at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Massachusetts, Governor Ralph Northam is still under fire over the racially-charged picture from his med school yearbook profile, and now, Attorney General Mark Herring has admitted to his own instance of wearing blackface at a college party. As Herring put out a statement to address the blackface matter, Fairfax posted a message of his own, denying the allegation again and saying “I cannot agree with the description of events that I Continue reading "Virginia Lt. Is Republican Oppo Research Really This Awful, Or is the News Media Not Doing Its Job?

Within the last week, two prominent Democrats have had major bombshells from their past detonated in ways that have probably destroyed their future political aspirations. Neither of these long-held secrets, however, came to be publicly known while they were actually running against Republicans for the offices that they now hold. I’m referring to Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren. Northam’s 1984 medical school yearbook was just revealed to contain a racist photo on his personal page, while Warren’s 1986 registration to the Texas state bar has her race outrageously listed, apparently in her own handwriting, as “American Indian.” Both of these scandalous exposures, had they been known to the voters at the time of certain elections, would have easily caused these candidates to be defeated by Republicans they beat in fairly close contests. And yet, somehow, the Republican operatives working for their opponents, Ed Gillespie and Continue reading "Is Republican Oppo Research Really This Awful, Or is the News Media Not Doing Its Job?"
