Since the very beginning of Donald Trump’s takeover of the “conservative” movement, I have been writing about the perfect storm of factors which has caused the “conservative” media to help facilitate this coup. Recently, the Salem Media Group, which owns “conservative” radio stations and publications, has been under fire for having played a key role in this rebellion and for continuing to rid the landscape of any lingering opposition once the war has been effectively won. As someone who has had extensive dealings with Salem, I have watched these developments with interest, but, unfortunately, have not been at all surprised by what has been alleged. In fact, based on my experience and communications I have had with current Salem hosts, the reality is even more overt than even what the coverage of these stories would suggest. Not only do I live where Salem is headquartered, but I used to host Continue reading "Salem Media’s Effort to Purge Anti-Trump Conservatives Tells You How the Business Really Works"
Emails sent to two former Salem Media Group employees in the summer of 2016 reported by CNN on Wednesday purported to reveal that the right-leaning media company pressured its employees to support then-GOP candidate Donald Trump on air. An analysis by the Washington Times’ Larry O’Connor cast doubt on the conclusions drawn by CNN’s reporting, and even featured some sniping between a current Salem executive and one of its former radio personalities. Phil Boyce, program director for Salem, accused former radio host Ben Shapiro of leaking the emails to CNN. “Ben Shapiro leaked an email that he asked me to write,” Boyce told O’Connor. “He wanted some guidance on how to handle Trump. This was in June 2016 right after the nomination. I gave him some pointers. I had no idea he would save it and leak it to CNN of all people.” For his part, Shapiro entirely denies Continue reading "Salem Executive Accuses Ben Shapiro of Leaking Emails to CNN, Shapiro Fires Back"
Many in conservative media celebrated the ouster of Steve Bannon from Breitbart this week, but few as vigorously as the former disciples of the website’s founder Andrew Breitbart. Among them, Larry O’Connor, a Mediaite contributor. At the very dawn of Bannon’s weeklong public crucifixion, O’Connor penned a column for the Washington Times bearing the headline, “Bannon Stands Alone,” foreshadowing the ex-White House strategist’s spectacular fall from MAGA-grace. A week after that column, Bannon was out at Breitbart — the website he returned to after he was jettisoned from White House and pledged to wield as a powerful weapon against the GOP establishment. For O’Connor, that was a triumph. He described Bannon as destructive, enjoying a “policy of chaos” and using “the website as a weapon (his own words) to destroy his enemies.” In light of the upheaval at Breitbart — and some speculation over a leadership vacuum at Continue reading "Larry O’Connor on the Future of Breitbart — and Speculation He’s Headed Back"
On Tuesday night, Mediaite Contributing Editor Larry O’Connor had a fiery exchange with a panelist regarding to recently federal court ruling that blocked President Trump‘s order to cut funding to sanctuary cities. Johns Hopkins University professor Wendy Osefo sided with Judge William H. Orrick‘s decision, saying there’s “no way” to enforce this order and that it had nothing to do with his liberal leanings. Meanwhile, O’Connor mocked Democrats for “now embracing federalism” and asked where they’ve been “for the past six decades.” “I think for most Americans, when you see this sanctuary city policy and you see cities and counties and states deciding, ‘Yeah, we’re not going to cooperate with the federal government on this. We are going to disobey the law. We are going to pick and choose what laws are valid and which aren’t but still give me all the federal tax dollars.’ It Continue reading "Mediaite‘s Larry O’Connor Slams Panelist on Sanctuary Cities: Don’t Say I Was Painting Immigrants As Criminals"
Local news anchor Leeann Tweeden dropped a bombshell earlier this week when she outlined specifics of her alleged victimization at the hands of her fellow USO Tour co-host Al Franken. She has since made repeated media appearances that have been graceful, confident and damning of the Minnesotan Senator’s behavior, which was illustrated by a now infamous photo of Franking appearing to grab the breasts of a then-sleeping Tweeden. Well, courtesy of WMAL’s Larry O’Connor Show, we can now see additional images from that 2006 USO tour. The first two images show Tweeden sharing the stage with Franken, while the third image shows the two in what some might say is a theatrical kiss that she had described in her initial public statement and in her emotional interview with Jake Tapper. Since this story broke, there has been a bipartisan call for an ethics investigation into Franken (of which he is

Mediaite Contributing Editor Larry O’Connor appeared on Fox News Tuesday night to discuss the “Weinstein Effect” that has been taking place in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. While he agreed with fellow panelist Richard Fowler that part of the solution is to teach boys early on how to treat women and learn from cautionary tales of men who were falsely accused of misconduct, O’Connor said he was “a little chagrined” by Democrats who are now speaking out against Bill Clinton for allegations that were made 20 years ago. “You worry about a rape culture in America,” O’Connor elaborated. “Juanita Broaddrick was ignored, ridiculed, demeaned and absolutely trashed by the party elites, by [Hillary] Clinton, by the way, for the last 20 years. And just now suddenly Democrats are seeing religion on this.” Before the segment, Fox News’s James Rosen reported on the numerous publications Continue reading "Mediaite‘s Larry O’Connor: Bill Clinton ‘Getting a Pass’ For Assault ‘Had a Powerful Influence on Our Culture’"
Mediaite columnist Larry O’Connor said that GOP lawmakers can’t pull themselves together because everyone has their own self-interest in undermining President Donald Trump as a leader. O’Connor spoke to Fox Business Network’s Stuart Varney Thursday about how establishment Republicans and pro-Trump Republicans are stunting Congress with their ongoing fight for control over the legislature’s direction. Varney said Republicans stand at a point of “do-or-die” and O’Connor thought that Trump’s “big mistake” was in thinking that everyone in the Congressional GOP would live up to their word on repealing Obamacare and making things like tax reform happen. “Boy is there a logjam at the Senate, and a big problem with that is pretty much every senator thinks they should be president, and a lot of them are very resentful of the man in the White House right now,” said O’Connor. “Sadly they don’t want to show any progress because they want Continue reading "Mediaite’s Larry O’Connor on D.C. Dysfunction: ‘Every Senator Thinks They Should be President’"
