Meghan McCain Calls Out First Daughter’s Silence on Child Separation: ‘Where Is Ivanka?’

On The View this morning, Meghan McCain brought up Ivanka Trump to ask where she’s been on this issue of family separation at the border. The outrage over separating children from their parents has only heightened in the past few days with the multiple different responses to it by President Trump and officials in his administration like Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. During the opening segment this morning, McCain pointed to legislation Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced as a fix to this crisis, noting now there’s “a lot of people on the right pushing back on this.” Laura Bush spoke out against the policy yesterday, as well as every living current and former First Lady. McCain also brought up the audio ProPublica obtained of children at a facility after being separated from their parents––with one agent joking “we have an orchestra here”––before calling out the First Daughter and senior Continue reading "Meghan McCain Calls Out First Daughter’s Silence on Child Separation: ‘Where Is Ivanka?’"

View Hosts Clash With Meghan McCain on Immigration: ‘A Nation Without Borders Is Not a Nation!’

The View had a spirited debate about the nature of immigration in the U.S. in the context of the Trump administration’s zero tolerance policy of separating children from their families at the border. “I spoke to a couple of friends who are immigration lawyers because I’m so concerned about this stuff that we’re seeing and they said that this is just an affront to the rule of law, that this is not what this country stands for,” Sunny Hostin said. “These are people that have been practicing immigration law for 20 years, and they have never seen anything like this. This is different.” “Whatever happened to give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses?” Whoopi Goldberg added. “I disagree with a lot of what everyone is saying,” Meghan McCain said. “I believe in comprehensive immigration reform, I always have. I believe in the idea that we Continue reading "View Hosts Clash With Meghan McCain on Immigration: ‘A Nation Without Borders Is Not a Nation!’"

Meghan McCain Bashes Trump For Getting Chummy With Kim: He’s the Closest Thing of Our Time to Hitler

President Donald Trump‘s summit meeting with Kim Jong Un continues to dominate the media cycle, so naturally, The View had plenty of things to say about this historic encounter. As the ladies discussed whether anyone can take Trump and Kim at their word for how things went, Meghan McCain objected to how the American flag and the North Korean flag were equally portrayed in the backdrop of their meeting. She also lamented how amicable Trump and Kim seemed to be throughout their meeting, and how there wasn’t more of a focus on the dictator’s crimes against humanity. “We are not the same,” McCain said. “[Kim’s regime] is completely and utterly the closest thing to Hitler’s Germany that exists in modern time. My problem was how far it went with the buddy-buddy, and there was no talk whatsoever of the human rights violations going on in that country.” McCain Continue reading "Meghan McCain Bashes Trump For Getting Chummy With Kim: He’s the Closest Thing of Our Time to Hitler"

Meghan McCain Fires Back at Trump Pushing Russia to G7: Putin is Getting Everything He Wanted

On The View on Monday, the hosts discussed President Donald Trump‘s blow-up with America’s G7 allies, and talked specifically about his pressing Vladimir Putin‘s interest in returning Russia to the group. Meghan McCain crushed the topic, basically asking what happened to America being pro-democracy and anti-dictator. “I have been so upset, deeply upset, over the idea that we would possibly let Russia back into the G8––G7,” McCain began. “I think people need to understand that in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea, which was part of the Ukraine, it was the first violation of European country’s border since World War II. Putin is using aggression, he has blood lust for the Soviet Union, and he is going to try to expand into Europe in every way possible and undermine democracy.” The point about Putin’s ultimate aims is vital to understanding the current American debate over Russia and foreign Continue reading "Meghan McCain Fires Back at Trump Pushing Russia to G7: Putin is Getting Everything He Wanted"

Meghan McCain Scolds De Niro for ‘Gross’ Trump Comment: ‘Not the Way to Combat’ POTUS

Last night at the Tonys, Robert de Niro declared “Fuck Trump” and got a very positive audience reception. On The View this morning, Meghan McCain said it wasn’t helpful to the anti-Trump cause at all. McCain was not alone in criticizing de Niro, however, as Sunny Hostin said, “I don’t care for the choice of language… I thought it was a bit crass.” That being said, Hostin added, “People are feeling strongly about politics today, you know? And I think rightfully so. And if that is the way de Niro chose to express that and that is the way the crowd chose to receive it, I mean, this is still America.” McCain, meanwhile, said de Niro’s comments were “gross”:
“When you’re talking about how Trump is degrading our national discourse with his language, this is not the way to combat Trump, it only helps him.”
She said Continue reading "Meghan McCain Scolds De Niro for ‘Gross’ Trump Comment: ‘Not the Way to Combat’ POTUS"

Meghan McCain Clashes With Joy Behar Over Media Bias: Time‘s ‘King’ Trump Cover ‘Moves the Needle No Place’

Meghan McCain collided with her fellow panelists on The View today — this time over media bias and the reasons why President Donald Trump‘s supporters around the country aren’t phased by negative news coverage. The conversation was focused on Time Magazine‘s new cover depicting Trump looking in a mirror and seeing himself as a king. As the ladies reflected on the recent news and suggested that TIME accurately depicted Trump’s perspective, McCain said the cover is good for riling up the media, but Middle America doesn’t acknowledge or care about it. As McCain cycled through polls saying more Americans believe the mainstream media churns out fake news, Joy Behar argued that Trump’s attacks on the press are causing “the erosion of democracy.” McCain met her halfway and said some parts of Trump Administration resemble a “dictatorship,” but she stuck to her point that Trump has seized on Continue reading "Meghan McCain Clashes With Joy Behar Over Media Bias: Time‘s ‘King’ Trump Cover ‘Moves the Needle No Place’"

Meghan McCain Smacks Scaramucci for Defending Aide Who Insulted Her Father: ‘This is Such Bad Spin’

Meghan McCain went after Anthony Scaramucci on Thursday for defending the former White House aide who made flippant remarks about her father because he’s dying of brain cancer. Earlier this week, the Mooch spoke to CNN’s Chris Cuomo and bemoaned the fact that Kelly Sadler was fired because of White House internal squabbles. The former White House Communications Director called Sadler “a world-class person” even as he acknowledged her insulting comments on Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), whom Scaramucci also praised as a “true American hero.”
