Morning Joe Blasts AOC: ‘Shocking How Little She Understands’ About Economics and Unemployment

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not just a lightning rod of criticism for Fox News hosts and personalities. She is also earning ridicule on what is typically more friendly cable news confines: MSNBC’s Morning Joe, who laced into the newly elected Congresswoman over her reaction to news that Amazon had pulled plans to build a second headquarters in Queens, New York. Amazon nixed plans to expand in New York city amidst controversy that the wildly successful and influential corporation was getting significant tax cuts from New York state and city, a controversy that was amplified by Ocascio-Cortez, who finds herself with a suddenly and remarkably powerful platform, both via her Twitter feed and a cable news industry that seems to amplify every word she utters publicly. But the Morning Joe panel seems unimpressed with AOC’s understanding of the underlying economics. The criticism started cautiously, with host Joe Scarborough ostensibly introducing the segment without Continue reading "Morning Joe Blasts AOC: ‘Shocking How Little She Understands’ About Economics and Unemployment"

Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld Mocks Scarborough for Trump Criticism: ‘You Helped Elect Him’

On Fox News’ The Five today, Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld swiped at MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough for criticizing President Donald Trump when he “helped elect him.” The hosts took up the issue of Trump’s “executive time” after yet another leak of the president’s private schedules. This morning Trump defended himself on Twitter: The Five showed Scarborough’s reaction to the tweet, expressing bewilderment at just how much time the President of the United States spends watching TV and tweeting, “staring at TV sets like an old man that is in a retirement home instead of a President of the United States.” Gutfeld added, “And you helped elect him.” Scarborough has been very critical of Trump during his presidency (and Trump has bashed him and Morning Joe co-host Mika Continue reading "Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld Mocks Scarborough for Trump Criticism: ‘You Helped Elect Him’"

Morning Joe Goes Off on ‘Laziest President’ Ever: Trump’s ‘Like an Old Man in a Retirement Home’

Morning Joe laughed at Donald Trump‘s expense on Monday as the president claims to be the hardest-working leader America has ever seen. Over the weekend, Axios published a new set of Trump’s White House schedules, the contents of which support previous indications that the president gets to spend large portions of his day in unstructured “executive time.” As Morning Joe addressed the news and the White House’s attempts to defend itself, the panel started smirking while Mika Brzezinski called it “playtime” for Trump. Here’s what Joe Scarborough had to say:
“What an absolute joke. We’ve seen one person after another saying he often just hunkers down upstairs in the personal quarters, he spends of majority of his time watching table news, tweeting, yelling, staring at TV sets like an old man in a retirement home instead of a President of the United States who is supposed to be Continue reading "Morning Joe Goes Off on ‘Laziest President’ Ever: Trump’s ‘Like an Old Man in a Retirement Home’"

Watch Morning Joe Laugh At Trump’s Claim That Republicans Never Unfairly Investigated Obama

President Donald Trump‘s early morning tweets about his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, sent MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough in a fit of laughter Thursday morning. The President complained about the “Unlimited Presidential Harassment” Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff and his colleagues were giving him, adding Obama never had to go through what he is going through. “Never happened before!” he tweeted at around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. “… The Dems and their committees are going ‘nuts.’ The Republicans never did this to President Obama, there would be no time left to run government.”

Manuel Oliver, the father of a high school student who was killed in the Parkland mass shooting, appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Thursday to talk about his clash with Rep. Matt Gaetz at a congressional hearing on gun violence. Gaetz argued for a wall at the southern border during the hearing, prompting vocal protests from Oliver, the father of Parkland victim Joaquin, and Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter Jaime was also killed in the shooting. The Florida Republican tried to have the two men removed from the hearing. “I had no idea who this person was before yesterday,” Oliver said on MSNBC of Gaetz. “He’s a salesperson from the Republican Party.” “The reason why I called him a salesperson is because he’s selling a product that has no relationship at all to what the discussion was about,” Oliver continued. “This person came in trying to solve the Continue reading "Parkland Father That Matt Gaetz Tried to Boot From Hearing Pans Congressman: ‘He’s a Salesperson’"

Former Senator Claire McCaskill To Morning Joe: Lindsey Graham Has Lost His Mind

Former Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) appeared on Morning Joe Wednesday morning and to ostensibly provide insight into the current Congressional dynamics, in particular, the backroom drama surrounding President Donald Trump’s possible declaration of a national emergency to build his much-touted border wall. There is an apparent split amongst Congressional Republicans on the “national emergency gambit” which was addressed by Lindsey Graham (R-SC) who recently addressed his fellow Republicans and said they needed to go along with the national emergency if that’s what it comes to. Co-host Willie Geist asked McCaskill what she thought about Graham’s comments, to which she replied plainly “number one, Lindsey Graham has lost his mind. I don’t understand what has happened.” After Geist pressed with “What’s he doing, Senator?” McCaskill admitted she didn’t know. “It’s beyond bizarre to me. This is not the man I served shoulder to shoulder with so many years. I don’t Continue reading "Former Senator Claire McCaskill To Morning Joe: Lindsey Graham Has Lost His Mind"

Morning Joe Mock Trump’s Light Work Schedule; White House Staff ‘Really Hate Their Boss!’

Morning Joe covered the report of President Donald Trump’s recently leaked schedules that revealed the Commander in Chief to use much of his “executive time” watching television, reading newspapers and ostensibly making phone calls. Axios obtained 51 private schedules from a White House source. While introducing the segment, co-host Mika Brzezinski said that the “leak provides unprecedented visibility as to how Trump spends his day. The president reportedly uses much of his executive time watching TV, looking at newspapers and phoning aides about what he sees and reads.” “How does anybody work with him? He has no attention,” Brezizinski. And so went yet another Morning Joe pile on of Donald Trump. Not a terribly unique morning show segment until MSNBC political analyst and frequent Morning Joe contributor Elise Jordan, who pithy but insightful comment brought us to this post here. “My take away in reading this was, wow, they really hate their boss,” Jordan said adding  Continue reading "Morning Joe Mock Trump’s Light Work Schedule; White House Staff ‘Really Hate Their Boss!’"

GOP Strategist Explains Trump’s ‘Disturbing’ Private Meetings With Putin: He ‘Does Not Trust His Own Staff’

Morning Joe discussed President Donald Trump‘s conversation tactics with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, and a Republican panelist suggested Trump doesn’t trust his own staff. “Why is it that the translator’s never from the American side,” asked host Joe Scarborough, regarding the president’s meetings with Putin. “Why is it that if there’s to be one translator, always a translator for Vladimir Putin but never a translator for the American side?” Republican strategist Susan Del Percio responded she didn’t think Trump trusted his personnel to accurately and honestly translate his words from English to Russian. “President Trump does not trust the Intel community, he does not trust his own staff,” said Del Percio. “I mean, this goes back to Jared Kushner wanting to back channel with the Russians right after the election. This is something he’s always wanted to have, as an open line of communication.” Continue reading "GOP Strategist Explains Trump’s ‘Disturbing’ Private Meetings With Putin: He ‘Does Not Trust His Own Staff’"

Morning Joe: Trump’s Pattern of Private and Unreported Putin Meetings is Truly ‘Unsettling and Disturbing’

The White House recently acknowledged that President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin informally met at Buenos Aires during the G20 summit, but a new report claims that their conversation was longer than originally reported and included no American personnel. In November, Trump pointedly canceled his scheduled meeting with Putin due to Russia’s aggressive action to Ukrainian ships. Trump even went so far as to tweet, “I look forward to a meaningful meeting again as soon as this situation is resolved.” But the Financial Times reported the two leaders actually met for 15 reported minutes at the end of an evening event with no translator or notetaker from the U.S. Side to record what was said. Co-host Joe Scarborough asked “Why is it that the translator’s never from the American side. If it is always to be one translator, always a translator for Vladimir Putin but never Continue reading "Morning Joe: Trump’s Pattern of Private and Unreported Putin Meetings is Truly ‘Unsettling and Disturbing’"

‘Wow!’ Morning Joe Mocks Matt Whitaker’s Profuse Press Conference Flop Sweat

Acting Attorney Matt Whitaker announced Monday during a Justice Department press conference that he expected the investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller to wrap up very soon. It was big news that earned immediate coverage as the public has received very little insight into Mueller’s plans. The Morning Joe panel, however, also focused on another aspect of the presser: Whitaker’s profuse sweat. After airing the clip, Mika Brzezinski interjected “wow!” before Joe Scarborough compared Whitaker’s flop sweat to the famous scene in Broadcast News in which the character played by Albert Brooks ruins his big break in anchoring the news with similar comedic flop sweat. He then offered a more self-effacing comparison recalling the “first four years” of his first show Scarborough Country. Scarborough then offered a more empathetic take, saying “Once you know you’re sweating on TV and you tell yourself stop sweating? Guess what. It’s just like Continue reading "‘Wow!’ Morning Joe Mocks Matt Whitaker’s Profuse Press Conference Flop Sweat"

WaPo Reporter Dishes on Why Joe and Mika Aren’t Hosting Morning Joe ‘Together’

Washington Post reporter Paul Fahri might have just solved the mystery of why it seems Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski have rarely co-hosted from the set of Morning Joe recently. Regular viewers of the show might have noticed that it has been a while since Scarborough and Brzezinski conducted the show from their New York City studio, nor have they even been on camera together. As Fahri points out, the show has been using clever broadcasting tactics to distract viewers from where the hosts are, if not at 30 Rock.

Morning Joe Rips Mike Pence Over ‘Bush League,’ Poorly-Timed Declaration ISIS is ‘Defeated’

On Thursday, Morning Joe dragged Vice President Mike Pence for proclaiming the defeat of ISIS just after American servicemen died from an attack the terror group has taken credit for. Four Americans died yesterday in the U.S.-patrolled city of Manbij, Syria when an attacker blew up his suicide vest. Even though Pence eventually offered sympathies over those who died from the attack, his first course of action after it happened was to give a speech that lavished praise on President Trump‘s leadership while saying “The caliphate has crumbled and ISIS has been defeated!” Joe Scarborough ripped Pence for his “bush league” remarks while noting that several Republicans have already expressed concern that Trump emboldened ISIS by announcing the imminent withdrawal of troops from Syria. Mike Barnicle agreed as he denounced Trump’s “foreign policy by impulse.” “It has not been defeated,” Barnicle said. “It’s thriving to Continue reading "Morning Joe Rips Mike Pence Over ‘Bush League,’ Poorly-Timed Declaration ISIS is ‘Defeated’"

Sen. Mark Warner Calls for Bill Barr to Withdraw: ‘Disqualified Himself’ with Unsolicited Mueller Memos

Senator Mark Warner appeared on MSNBC’s I Wednesday morning and called for William Barr to withdraw his nomination for Attorney General. While most seem to believe that Barr will ultimately be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, many see the Democratic side of the aisle aiming to ding Barr’s reputation regarding the looming report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller. During confirmation hearings Tuesday, Barr differed sharply from President Donald Trump’s “witch hunt” claim and supported former AG Jeff Sessions decision to recuse himself. He did leave open to interpretation how he may release Mueller report findings, to which Warner to take issue. The Virginia Senator said, “I think Mr. Barr, unfortunately, in a sense disqualified himself when he sent these unsolicited memos that seemed to say hey look at I’m against the Mueller investigation.” Barr had penned memos providing his insight on the Mueller investigation which is at issue and Continue reading "Sen. Joe Scarborough: Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell are Co-Conspirators in Trump ‘Horror Show’

In the plainest of terms, Joe Scarborough believes that the Trump administration is a “horror show” and believes that establishment Republicans in Congress like Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and Kevin McCarthy are “co-conspirators.” In a Friday morning harangue that shifted his typical animus focused on President Donald Trump, Scarborough opened Morning Joe by going off on GOP congress who, in his esteem, are “complicit by their action or, more importantly, by their silence.” “The party of Lincoln and the party of Reagan, they’re suffering through a massive moral collapse,” he said, adding “It is sad and it is dangerous for this country and I believe it is the beginning of the end of my old party.” Senator Graham caught the largest serving of Scarborough bile due to his complete transformation from a presidential candidate who warned the nation about Trump to one of his leading apologists/toadies. The context of Continue reading "Joe Scarborough: Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell are Co-Conspirators in Trump ‘Horror Show’"

John Heilemann Explains How Trump Owns Republicans: Fear, Panic, Stupidity and Cowardice

Morning Joe opened Monday’s show covering the 17th day of the government shutdown over border wall funding and contributor John Heilemann provided clear insight into the intraparty dynamics within the Republican party that has partly led the paralyzed political situation in which the nation now finds itself. Host Joe Scarborough framed Heilemann’s insight in the context of how the Republican party is being “reduced to dust” over manufactured crises, a record deficit and an end to free trade — all the things that he fought for as a Republican congressman serving a Florida district in the 1990s. In Heilemann’s purview its a fairly simple equation: many Republican Congressional members up for reelection in 2020 privately admit that President Donald Trump is undermining traditional GOP principles, but are more concerned about being primaried by Trump and a pro-Trump candidate that they are effectively sitting on their hands. Citing Senator Mitch McConnell Continue reading "John Heilemann Explains How Trump Owns Republicans: Fear, Panic, Stupidity and Cowardice"

Morning Joe Airs Montage of Trump’s Very Specific Campaign Promise of Concrete Border Wall

Morning Joe mocked President Donald Trump’s shifting position on the specifics of a border wall Wednesday morning on the last day that Republicans control the House of Representatives and amidst a nearly two-week government shutdown over border security funding. Democratic congressional leadership Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, the latter of whom is set to take over as House Speaker on Thursday, January 3rd, are set to attend a White House meeting later today regarding the current political stalemate that has led to a government shutdown. The issue of funding a border wall has become a political hot potato which has led President Trump to feebly ask Pelosi via Twitter “Let’s make a deal?” On New Year’s Day Trump tweeted:

Over the past two-plus years there have been persistent rumors that recordings of then-reality show host Donald Trump saying the “n-word” during outtakes of The Apprentice. But the writer of a fascinating tale of the show’s Executive Producer Mark Burnett’s myth-making of Trump that led him to the White House appeared on  Morning Joe Friday morning and revealed that he didn’t believe that such a tape exists. Patrick Radden Keefe wrote the story and appeared on Morning Joe on Friday morning to discuss the star-making machinery behind the popular competitive reality show. The essence of the article is best exemplified by the title “How Mark Burnett Resurrected Donald Trump as an Icon of American Success With The Apprentice and talks about how the TV producer mythologized Trump, who was at the time considered a “floundering D-lister” as the ultimate titan, paving his way to the Presidency (as the article’s sub-title reads. Morning Joe assessed the state of the Trump administration on Christmas Eve and came to a dire outlook for the New Year, with Joe Scarborough declaring the president “rogue.” Scarborough said he was “grateful” for American institutions holding strong in the Trump era, before asking Washington Post columnist Gene Robinson: “What do we do, Gene, when it does appear that this Administration is terminal?” “This Administration will not survive,” Scarborough continued. “What do our leaders in Washington do? What do editorial page editors do, what do people in news programs, presidents of networks do? What does everybody do working together to make sure that this Administration that is terminal does not behave in a way that creates not only a governing crisis but a pandemic, not only across this country, but across the world?” “Those institutions are really going to have their work cut out for Continue reading "Scarborough Warns of ‘Rogue’ President: ‘This Administration is Terminal’ and ‘Will Not Survive’"

Morning Joe Brutally Mocks Kirstjen Nielsen’s ‘We Need Wall’ Quote With Anchorman Montage

Morning Joe took aim at Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen in a short but sweet video montage that compared her strange remarks about the border wall to the rhetoric of Anchorman character Brick Tamland. Nielsen faced a heated House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday, where she was grilled by lawmakers on family separations, deaths of migrants in Border Patrol custody, and the current government shutdown fight over funding the wall. During the hearing Nielsen dropped this knowledge bomb: “From Congress, I would ask for wall. We need wall.” The sardonic producers at Morning Joe decided to put that clip into a video cut, side by side with beloved Anchorman character Brick Tamland, whose stupidity was masterfully captured by Steve Carrell. Joe Scarborough: To Foreign Leaders Trump Looks Like a Coward, He Looks Feckless, He Looks Weak

Joe Scarborough and the rest of the Morning Joe reacted to news of the resignation of Secretary of Defense James Mattis with the critical hyperbole that its viewers tune in to see. But in this instance, the criticism  (and circumstances surrounding it) rose to a level merits special attention. Mattis’ surprise stepping down appears to be such a concerning and destabilizing event that  Scarborough described previously in the show as the “most extraordinary resignation in modern American history.” Matts’ letter outlined how President Donald Trump deserved a Defense Secretary that shared the administration’s foreign policy vision, which was seen by many as stunning a rebuke as one could imagine. But it was Commentary editor John Podhoretz who pointed out how the catalyst for Mattis departure was Trump’s sudden announcement of withdrawing troops from Syria and reported that this military decision came after Trump spoke with Turkey’s President Erdogan. “Think Continue reading "Joe Scarborough: To Foreign Leaders Trump Looks Like a Coward, He Looks Feckless, He Looks Weak"
