Joe Scarborough is no longer a member of the Republican party, but he still claims status as a proud conservative. But anyone watching his passionate frustration with the Democratic party on Morning Joe today might think he’s tipped fully to the blue side of the aisle. Though it’s better analysis that the avowed sports fan is just tired of watching a blow-out and his cheering for a closer game. After airing clips of President Donald Trump deriding Democrats during a political rally last night in the most simplistic and banal ways, Scarborough exasperated of the Dems “they’re just depressed right now.” He then seemed to channel the head football coach at his favorite college football team, Alabama’s Nick Saban, and went off on what he saw as weak and soft Democratic party leaders in comparison to their tougher Republican counterparts. “I’m sitting there going, you know, as a former Republican, when Continue reading "Scarborough Blasts Dem’s Weak Messaging: Republicans ‘Knock People’s Heads Off Their Shoulders’"
President Donald Trump hit back at his alleged former paramour Stormy Daniels in what has become his signature juvenile manner: making fun of the appearance of the adult film actress on Twitter. His calling her “horse face” launched an ugly body-shaming retort from Ms. Daniels, as the American political dialogue continued to a death spiral of descent. This was the context of Morning Joe’s Mika Brzezinski, who has consistently been a morning show source for calling out Trump’s erratic behavior and diagnosing the Commander in Chief’s lack of mental wellness. For Mika “this is one of the many, many, many ways this president has shown us that he is not fit, possibly not even well” adding how she didn’t understand why people in this administration “taking matters into their own hands and trying to sort of stick it out because they Continue reading "Mika Brzezinski Urges 25th Amendment: Trump Is ‘Not Fit to Lead,’ He Is ‘Not Well’"
The political assassination of a Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi Arabian operatives in a Turkish-base consulate has brought increased attention between the Trump Administration and the Saudi Royal Family. Amid growing criticism of putting his personal business dealings ahead of national interest, President Donald Trump claimed via Twitter that he had NO business arrangements with Saudi Arabia. But as Willie Geist outlined in the segment above, Trump’s claims are undermined by a number of previously reported facts, and even claims he’s made on the campaign rally speech in Alabama. Then-candidate Trump bragged he gets along well with Saudi Arabia: “They buy apartments from me,” Trump said during the Alabama rally. “They spend $40 million, $50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much.” Remember, 15 of the 19 terrorists who attacked the United States on 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia. Daily Beast Continue reading "Morning Joe’s Sam Stein: Trump’s Murky Personal Finances Are a ‘Ticking Time Bomb’"
Senator Ben Sasse sat with Morning Joe today in a long-ranging discussion about many topics that comprise the current news cycle but finished with insightful commentary on the very nature of today’s current news cycle itself. Sasse’s media visibility has spiked of late, in part due to his role in the Senate confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, but that the once “Never Trumper” appears to have cooled on his criticism of President Donald Trump. Oh, and he’s also doing a pretty extensive media tour in promotion of his book that has him on nearly every cable news program. Morning Joe contributor Mike Barnicle got the last question when he asked the Senator about the news business, saying “do you buy into the proposition that Donald Trump wakes up every day and plays us to the hilt and laughs at us?” Sasse provided something relatively rare for cable news programming: ostensibly Continue reading "Ben Sasse: Trump Puppet Masters News Media Into a Frenzy ‘Which Isn’t Good for Us’"
Morning Joe opened their show this morning with a collectively stunned reaction from President Donald Trump’s wide-ranging and free-form 60 Minutes interview with Lesley Stahl. In the view of hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, the Commander in Chief came off as a “big baby” and appeared ill-equipped and unfit to lead the country.” Frequent contributor John Heilemann chimed in with an “emperor’s got no clothes” reference but it was panelist John Podhoretz who finally arrived at providing analysis of Trump’s particular rhetoric on display. “It was Trump coming fully out and saying I am running — I wouldn’t say immoral, but ‘beyond moral’ presidency,” said the consistently besweatered contributor. Later in a 20-minute segment (of which only four minutes are excerpted here), Scarborough ridiculed Trump’s response to Stahl’s questioning about dealing with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, saying”how could conservatives not be shocked and offended by what Continue reading "Morning Joe Slams Trump’s 60 Minutes Hit: Came Off as ‘Big Baby’; ‘Ill-Equipped and Unfit to Lead’"
Yesterday Hurricane Michael struck the Florida panhandle with record Category 4 winds that devastated a number of beachside communities and left hundreds of thousands without power. At roughly the same time, President Donald Trump traveled to a previously scheduled political rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, announcing via Twitter that it would be unfair to cancel it because of all the people already there to attend. Or in the words of Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, Trump was “holding a full-on pep rally while Americans are suffering and dying in northwest Florida.” In Scarborough’s view, the optics of holding a campaign rally just after a devastating hurricane was making landfall was not a good look for a sitting president. Scarborough said that” I criticized Barack Obama for holding a campaign event one week after a hurricane hit,” adding that it’s pretty easy for the President to say “I don’t mean to Continue reading "Joe Scarborough Blasts Trump’s ‘Full-on Pep Rally’ While People in Florida Are Dying"
By any measure, these are salad days for the Republican party. There’s a strong economy, a conservative Supreme Court and the GOP controls all three branches of the government. So why are they so pissed? This is the question asked by Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, who himself served as a Republican member of the House of Representatives before becoming an influential media figure. Yes, he has renounced his membership of the Grand Old Party, but he still occasionally shows off his conservative bona fides which gives this particular criticism of the state of things even more gravity. Citing the words of yesterday’s guest Tom Nichols, Scarborough noted “the remarkable thing about Donald Trump and this Republican Party is, that they play the card of grievance” despite the monopoly they have on all the institutions they control in the nation’s capital, which he then Continue reading "Joe Scarborough: GOP Has Monopoly on Washington D.C. Yet Still ‘Plays the Aggrieved Card’"
