CNN’s Kirsten Powers Knocks Heads With Margaret Hoover: I’m Listening to You ‘Smear’ Christine Ford!

A CNN panel segment got tense, Wednesday, after Kirsten Powers confronted Margaret Hoover — a fellow contributor to the network — after what she deemed to be a smear on Brett Kavanaugh sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford. Appearing on New Day, Hoover — host of the syndicated conservative talk show Firing Line — argued that because Kavanaugh has been subject to six FBI investigations over the years, any major problems with women would have been revealed by now. “[He’s] a man I happen to know personally. I met him. I know he has high integrity and character,” Hoover said. She added, “Brett Kavanaugh has had six FBI investigations over the course of his life. There would be some other semblance of some other degree of problem with women if this were a past problem consistently.” Powers, a columnist for USA Today, was visibly outraged — particularly over Continue reading "CNN’s Kirsten Powers Knocks Heads With Margaret Hoover: I’m Listening to You ‘Smear’ Christine Ford!"

CNN New Day: Trump Predicting Violence if GOP Loses Midterms is ‘Dangerous New Low’

CNN’s New Day took issue today with reports that President Donald Trump suggested a violent outcome if the GOP loses the coming midterm elections in a closed-door meeting he recently hosted with evangelical leaders at the White House. Alisyn Camerota put reports of White House “fear-mongering”  in stark relief, with fellow co-host John Avlon calling it a “dangerous new low.” Some context, per NBC News Trump talked to these leaders about being on the same side and laid out the midterm stakes in dramatic fashion:
“The level of hatred, the level of anger is unbelievable,” he said. “Part of it is because of some of the things I’ve done for you and for me and for my family, but I’ve done them….This November 6th election is very much a referendum on not only me, it’s a referendum on your religion, it’s a referendum on free speech and the First Continue reading "CNN New Day: Trump Predicting Violence if GOP Loses Midterms is ‘Dangerous New Low’"

WATCH: Alisyn Camerota Battles With John Sununu After Ex-Governor Rips CNN, Triggering Icy Standoff

It all started so cordially. Monday on CNN’s New Day, Alisyn Camerota and former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu (R) exchanged reflections and memories of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) — who passed away Saturday after a bout with brain cancer. The two swapped stories as part of a heartfelt tribute to the late senator. But then the subject turned to President Donald Trump and the media. And that was the end of the geniality. Camerota asked Sununu about the Washington Post’s report that the president personally rejected plans for a White House statement to honor McCain. “That was printed in the Washington Post,” Sununu said. “And I have to be honest with you, I don’t give much credence to what I read –” Camerota interjected — noting that CNN confirmed the information. “We also have that reporting,” she said. Sununu scoffed at this. “Yeah, well, same thing applies, Continue reading "WATCH: Alisyn Camerota Battles With John Sununu After Ex-Governor Rips CNN, Triggering Icy Standoff"

CNN Debate Derails After Trump Surrogate Steve Cortes Claims Mueller Probe is Part of the Swamp

During a National Review podcast interview in April, CNN host Don Lemon said he “absolutely” thinks that some pro-Donald Trump guests who appear on his network do not believe what they’re saying on the air. After a New Day segment full of loony assertions, it’s hard to imagine Steve Cortes doesn’t belong in that category. Cortes, the former head of Trump’s Hispanic Advisory Council, took the CNN morning show off the rails Friday when he made the claim that special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe is actually part of the “swamp’s” effort to undercut the president’s election. “What the swamp is doing — and it’s very good at this — is it is mounting a massive campaign via the Mueller probe and via media to try to undermine our 2016 victory,” Cortes said. “Because the swamp is powerful, and it wants to reassert itself, and many Republicans are complicit in Continue reading "CNN Debate Derails After Trump Surrogate Steve Cortes Claims Mueller Probe is Part of the Swamp"

CNN’s New Day Openly Mocks Trump’s Distancing from Michael Cohen: ‘Barely Knew the Guy!’

This morning the cable news world has a lot to work with given Fox & Friends exclusive interview with President Donald Trump taped just a day after his former campaign manager Paul Manafort was found guilty for bank and tax fraud, and his former lawyer Michael Cohen pled guilty to breaking campaign finance laws and directly implicating Trump. CNN’s New Day, which can fairly be described as a morning show that, while occasionally featuring pro-Trump voices, presents a consistently skeptical approach to the Trump administration. A good example of that skepticism is their reaction to a clip from the aforementioned Fox News interview, in which President Trump seemed to dismiss the role that Cohen played in the Trump Org. The deeply cynical ploy to belittle Cohen’s standing with Trump (now that he’s pled guilty) drew open mockery and doubled over laughing by hosts Alysin Camerota, John Berman, Continue reading "CNN’s New Day Openly Mocks Trump’s Distancing from Michael Cohen: ‘Barely Knew the Guy!’"

Alisyn Camerota Clashes With Matt Schlapp: You’re Doing ‘Fancy Rhetorical Footwork’ to Defend Trump

President Donald Trump‘s friends were hard to come by on cable news Wednesday morning — less than 24 hours after the guilty plea by his longtime lawyer Michael Cohen, and the guilty verdict against his campaign chairman Paul Manafort. But ever-loyal, Matt Schlapp — chairman of the American Conservative Union — went to bat for his president Wednesday. Appearing on CNN’s New Day for a chat with Alisyn Camerota, Schlapp tried to write off Cohen’s plea deal as totally no biggie. “I believe that Michael Cohen pled guilty to actions that are called crimes in the plea deal, that aren’t in fact crimes,” Schlapp said. “Alisyn, can you name any other person in this country who has been convicted of trying to squelch a story in the National Enquirer?” Camerota wasn’t buying any of it. “What I think you’re doing is a lot of fancy rhetorical Continue reading "Alisyn Camerota Clashes With Matt Schlapp: You’re Doing ‘Fancy Rhetorical Footwork’ to Defend Trump"

MI Democrat Nominee: I Will ‘Probably Not’ Support Pelosi, She Doesn’t Speak to my District’s Issues

Democratic congressional nominee for Michigan Rashida Tlaib has become the latest left-leaning political figure to say she will not support a bid to make Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) Speaker of the House again. When Tlaib spoke to John Berman on Thursday for CNN’s New Day, she told him she would “probably not” vote for Pelosi because “I need someone who is connected with the different levels of poverty going on” in her district. Tlaib continued to say Pelosi’s “troubling” support of big banks wouldn’t put her people first, so Berman asked if she thought Pelosi is a “Democratic sellout.” “I don’t know,” Tlaib said. “All I can tell you is she doesn’t speak about the issues that are important to the Continue reading "MI Democrat Nominee: I Will ‘Probably Not’ Support Pelosi, She Doesn’t Speak to my District’s Issues"

Trump Weighs in on Morning Ratings War: Fox & Friends ‘Blowing’ Away ‘Dead Show’ Morning Joe, CNN’s New Day

President Donald Trump, as is well known, watches a colossal quantity of television. And since his years as the star of a hit reality TV show, he cares a great deal about ratings. On Thursday, Trump weighed in on the contentious morning ratings battle. “Wow, @foxandfriends is blowing away the competition in the morning ratings,” Trump tweeted. “Morning Joe is a dead show with very few people watching and sadly, Fake News CNN is also doing poorly. Too much hate and inaccurately reported stories – too predictable!” Ratings-wise, the president is correct. In the newly released Nielsen ratings for Continue reading "Trump Weighs in on Morning Ratings War: Fox & Friends ‘Blowing’ Away ‘Dead Show’ Morning Joe, CNN’s New Day"

Rudy Giuliani Appears on Both CNN and Fox News to Claim Collusion Isn’t A Crime

The tune, she has changed. President Donald Trump‘s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, went on both Fox & Friends and New Day to tell the American people that there was no collus– no wait, that was an old script – to tell the American people that he’s not sure collusion is a crime. That would seem to indicate that Trump maybe, you know, did collude with Russians, and that Giuliani is now saying: it doesn’t really matter. Speaking to a nonplussed Alisyn Camerota on New Day, Giuliani said: “I don’t even know if that’s a crime, colluding about Russians. You start analyzing the crime. The hacking is the crime. … The President didn’t hack.” “That certainly is the original crime,” Camerota replied dryly.

Meanwhile, on the other side of things, Fox & Friends‘s Pete Hegseth was practically falling over himself to give Giuliani an award in patience Continue reading "Rudy Giuliani Appears on Both CNN and Fox News to Claim Collusion Isn’t A Crime"

CNN Echoes NY Times Publisher on Dangers of Trump’s Press Rhetoric: Rally-Goers ‘Receptive’ to Violent Language

Many journalists agree with New York Times publisher A.G. Sulzberger‘s assessment in his meeting with President Donald Trump that the president’s rhetoric about journalists is harmful and dangerous, and a panel on CNN’s New Day helped to explain why. “Nobody quite knows when the rhetoric becomes an excuse for somebody,” Washington Post Congressional Reporter Karoun Demirjian said, mentioning the massacre of journalists in Annapolis. “It’s not completely out of the realm of possibility that people take physical action to harm and kill members of the press.” “I guess I would add to your publisher with one other beat. I’m not just concerned that the president described the media as the enemy of the people, I’m really concerned that there’s such a reservoir of support for that sentiment in the country,” CNN Political Analyst David Gregory, filling in for John Berman, noted. “There are people out Continue reading "CNN Echoes NY Times Publisher on Dangers of Trump’s Press Rhetoric: Rally-Goers ‘Receptive’ to Violent Language"

CNN’s New Day Warns of ‘Orwellian’ Change of WH Putin Transcript: Not Fooling Anyone But Fox News Viewers

CNN’s New Day covered a grave development in the Trump-Putin press conference mess: the White House’s official transcript of the presser omitted a crucial line about the Russian president declaring he wanted Trump to win the 2016 election. During the presser, a reporter asked Vladimir Putin if he wanted Trump to win in 2016, and if he directed any of his officials to help him do that. “Yes I did,” Putin replied. “Because he talked about bringing the U.S.-Russia relationship back to normal.” The White House deleted that question from the official transcript. “They have changed reality,” CNN’s Alisyn Camerota said gravely. “You’ve been talking about how Orwellian this is, and I think that’s the right word,” conservative commentator Max Boot said. “[He’s] re-writing the past. Now of course he’s doing it in such a ham-handed and ridiculous way. I really don’t know who they think they’re Continue reading "CNN’s New Day Warns of ‘Orwellian’ Change of WH Putin Transcript: Not Fooling Anyone But Fox News Viewers"

CNN’s Camerota Battles Michael Caputo on Trump’s ‘Blame America Tour’: Why Did He Insult the US?

Former Trump campaign adviser Michael Caputo faced a lengthy grilling from CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on New Day Monday morning, over everything from the president’s “blame America tour” to the FISA warrant obtained to surveil Carter Page. Caputo started off by pointing out that Trump’s Helsinki disaster “is one of those rare occasions where I break with the president,” before blaming Trump’s “opposition” for his inability to condemn Russia. Camerota pointed out that Trump “insulted the U.S. on the world stage as he stood next to Vladimir Putin,” and Caputo argued that the president was merely “expressing his distrust for the American intelligence organizations that tried to stop him from being president, and are trying to remove him today.” Caputo tried to steer the conversation to the FISA warrant applications to surveil Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, but Camerota pushed back. “You’re not answering my question,” she said. “Why did Continue reading "CNN’s Camerota Battles Michael Caputo on Trump’s ‘Blame America Tour’: Why Did He Insult the US?"

As CNN’s New Day covered President Donald Trump‘s explosive late-night tweet threatening Iran, the morning show concluded: this is a means to distract from his terrible week. Trump issued this dire threat to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani late Sunday night: New Day co-host Alisyn Camerota pointed out that Trump predicted multiple times during the Obama presidency that the former president would attack Iran to help him politically. “Is this a distraction of some kind?” she asked guest Max Boot. The conservative writer said Trump is a “master of distraction,” and that if any other Continue reading "CNN’s New Day Takes on Trump’s ‘Wag the Dog’ Iran Threat: ‘When He’s Embarrassed’ He ‘Looks For a Distraction’"

Republican Congressman Asks Why We Can’t Call Women Sluts Anymore

Rep. Jason Louis (R-MN), a great philosopher for our time. “You’re welcome, America, for what you’re about to hear,” Alisyn Camerota began sarcastically, explaining that the investigative team at CNN’s New Day unearthed a portion of a radio show from March 2012 in which Louis wondered why it’s not a thing for women to be called sluts nowadays. Here’s what he said:
“Well the thing is, can we call anybody a slut? This is what begs the question… Does a woman now have the right to behave – and I know there’s a double standard between the way men chase women and, you know, running around, you know – I’m not going to get there but you know what I’m talking about. But it used to be that women were held to a little bit of a higher standard. We required modesty from women. Now, are we beyond those days

CNN’s New Day was unanimous in its condemnation of Rep. Maxine Waters Monday, who said at a rally over the weekend that Trump officials who continue to defend the president are going to face harassment in public. The California Democrat said at a rally that these officials are “not going to be able to go to a restaurant, stop at a gas station, shop at a department store. The people are going to turn on them, they’re going to protest, they’re going to absolutely harass them until they decide that they’re going to tell the president: ‘No … this is wrong, this is unconscionable; we can’t keep doing this to children.’” RealClearPolitics editor A.B. Stoddard kicked off the CNN panel by pointing out that Waters is set to take over a highly important position in the House as chair of the Financial Services Committee — and “she’s doing Continue reading "CNN Panel Tears Into Maxine Waters For ‘Outrageous’ Rhetoric: Stoking ‘Mob Mentality on the Left’"

Anthony Scaramucci Rips ‘Atrocious’ Border Separation Policy: ‘We All Know’ Trump Can Change It

Anthony Scaramucci appeared on CNN Monday morning and gave a candid interview in which he bashed the Trump administration policy of separating child migrants from their families at the U.S. southern border. Scaramucci, a Trump adviser who served briefly as White House communications director, kicked off the interview on New Day by saying: “I think the president should stop it.” “Aside from which it’s inhumane and its cruel, I think he needs to step back, stop listening his aides and his advisers,” Scaramucci said, likely referring to White House immigration hardliners Stephen Miller and John Kelly. “He’s got to step in there and end this thing because I think it’s an atrocious policy, it’s inhumane, it’s offensive to the average American,” Scaramucci continued. “It does not represent American values.” Scaramucci went on to argue that the optics of the policy aren’t good for Republican chances in the Continue reading "Anthony Scaramucci Rips ‘Atrocious’ Border Separation Policy: ‘We All Know’ Trump Can Change It"

Former CIA Director: Attacking Canada Before NoKo Summit Makes Trump Look ‘Unstable, Erratic and Thin Skinned’

Former CIA Director Michael Hayden was dismayed by the Trump administration’s decision to trash Justin Trudeau and Canada on his way to the summit with North Korea, saying the move had the opposite effect of its intention to make the president look tough. Trump upended the agreement reached by allies at the G-7 after leaving the conference, trashing Canada’s prime minister in scathing tweets. On the Sunday shows, his advisers followed suit with bizarrely acrimonious rhetoric: Larry Kudlow said Trudeau “stabbed us in the back” and Peter Navarro said there’s “a special place in hell” for the allied leader. Hayden said he reacted to the attacks with “a mixture of sadness and, frankly, anger because no country deserves to be treated that way.” “Certainly having officials in one government criticize the head of government in another country, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before, and for god sake, Continue reading "Former CIA Director: Attacking Canada Before NoKo Summit Makes Trump Look ‘Unstable, Erratic and Thin Skinned’"

Art of the Deal Co-Author Tony Schwartz: Donald Trump is ‘Mentally Ill’

Tony Schwartz, the co-author the Donald Trump‘s famed book The Art of The Deal, assessed the president’s prospects at the upcoming summit with North Korea on New Day, and came to a troubling conclusion: he is “mentally ill.” Schwartz was on to analyze the president in the wake of his decision to upend the two days of diplomacy with allies at the G7 over the weekend, and made the bold declaration based on his decades of observing Trump. “He is under a severe a lot of stress,” Schwartz explained. “I’m going to say it very bluntly: He’s mentally ill.” “This is a man — and I understand I’m not a psychiatrist — but he’s prima facia mentally ill. He has a personality disorder. That means on its face this is a man who is unstable, who doesn’t think clearly and now has narrowed his Continue reading "Art of the Deal Co-Author Tony Schwartz: Donald Trump is ‘Mentally Ill’"
