Sanders Campaign Manager Describes Where Bernie’s Movement Goes From Here

weaverBernie Sanders’ presidential campaign manager Jeff Weaver described what he hoped would be the legacy of the senator’s remarkable, though ultimately unsuccessful, bid for the Democratic nomination. “I think Sen. Sanders’ campaign was a historic campaign,” Weaver told Roll Call in an interview published Tuesday. “And I think what his campaign did is it demonstrated that there is a hunger for progressive change in the world. And he really articulated the progressive agenda he’s articulated for so many years.” He spoke of the importance of maintaining those networks and that level of enthusiasm that the campaign generated in communities across the country. “There are Bernie Democrats who have been elected to party committees and states all across the country and to the DNC. penceA variety of sources Thursday reported that Donald Trump will select Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his running mate Friday. Mike Pence is his choice for his vice presidential running mate, according to a Republican with direct knowledge of the decision. As Trump narrowed in on his choice of Pence, the two men spent time at both Trump’s golf resort in New Jersey in early July and at the Indiana governor’s mansion this week.” Shortly afterward, The New York Times reported the same: “Donald J. Trump’s campaign has signaled strongly to Republicans in Washington that he will pick Mike Pence, the governor of Indiana, as his running mate, though Republicans caution the party’s mercurial presidential candidate may still backtrack on his apparent choice.” Meanwhile, a source tells CNN that Trump is “leaning” towards Pence.

Sharron AngleFormer Nevada Republican senatorial nominee Sharron Angle has long been derided as one of the weakest candidates put forward in years, allowing a deeply unpopular Harry Reid to win reelection amid the Tea Party surge of 2010. But a new anecdote from Roll Call highlights just how out of her depth Angle really was.

The [National Republican Senatorial Committee] leaders wanted to talk about politics and policy with their newly minted nominee, but when the conversation turned to Social Security, they learned they had a big problem. Angle, according to two people in the room, talked about the entitlement program as if its cash reserves were literally stored in a “lockbox,” located in a government facility in West Virginia.

“Her plan to save Social Security was to somehow take all the money that had been quote ‘stolen’ out of the lockbox, and put it back in the lockbox based in West Continue reading "Former GOP Candidate Sharron Angle Literally Thought Social Security Was a Box in West Virginia"
