Christopher Wray Testifies FBI Completed Porter Background Investigation in July, Countering WH Claim

The White House is now a full week into the Rob Porter domestic abuse scandal. Much of the controversy revolves around when the White House knew about the allegations that Porter abused his two ex-wives, specifically since he was unable to receive a security clearance from the FBI a year into his joining the administration. In today’s Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, FBI Director Christopher Wray seemed to indicate that the White House was potentially made aware of Porter’s past domestic abuse last summer. Pressed by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) on whether the FBI was aware of the allegations and if they informed the administration that the

Top Senate Intel Dem Mark Warner on Trump Jr.: Part of ‘Pattern of Convenient Forgetfulness’

Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee want answers from Donald Trump Jr. over his meeting with a Russian lawyer. Trump Jr. already tweeted today that he’s “happy to work with” the committee, and committee vice chair Mark Warner said that he “absolutely” wants to hear from the President’s son. Warner told reporters (in the video above, via MSNBC) he has questions about who else was in the meeting, and he asked, “If there’s no there there, why aren’t more of these people coming clean at a more regular fashion?” When a reporter asked him if the meeting gives “the appearance of collusion,” Warner simply said it’s “remarkable” the meeting was not reported earlier. He said there seems to be a “pattern of convenient forgetfulness” from Trump officials. Later on MSNBC, Senator Joe Manchin told Hallie Jackson the committee definitely wants to hear from Trump Jr., publicly if Continue reading "Top Senate Intel Dem Mark Warner on Trump Jr.: Part of ‘Pattern of Convenient Forgetfulness’"

‘Loud Is Not A Program’: Krauthammer Slams Democrats On Health Care Obstruction

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden recently said on Twitter that Democrats needed to ‘get loud’ in their opposition to the GOP health care bill. Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer slammed Wyden and the Democrats for what he dismisses as an obstructionist approach to the GOP plan even as ObamaCare is collapsing before their eyes. “Loud is not a program”, said Krauthammer. “They’re obsessed with the process, the secrecy.” Democrats have accused the GOP of constructing their bill behind closed doors without any input from the minority party. Krauthammer said that the American people don’t really care about the process of crafting the bill as long as the end result is positive. “Americans don’t care one way or another if this plan was hatched in a winery or pulled out of a refrigerator,” he said. “All they want is something that works.” Continue reading "‘Loud Is Not A Program’: Krauthammer Slams Democrats On Health Care Obstruction"

‘I Am Not Stonewalling!’ Sessions, Wyden Go Off on Each Other in Explosive Back-and-Forth

In today’s highly anticipated Senate Intelligence Committee hearing featuring Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ testimony, the AG got into a heated exchange with Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR). Among the things they went at each other over former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony and Wyden’s belief that Sessions and the Trump administration have been “stonewalling.” Wyden stated that when he questioned Comey last week, Comey noted that he found Sessions’ involvement in the Russian investigation before his recusal to be “problematic” and that the FBI had been calling for Sessions to step aside. “Were you aware of any concerns that the FBI or elsewhere in government about your contacts with the Russians or any other matters relevant to whether you should step aside from the Russian investigation?” Wyden asked the AG. “I am not stonewalling!” Sessions exclaimed. “I’m following the historic policies of the Department of Justice. You don’t Continue reading "‘I Am Not Stonewalling!’ Sessions, Wyden Go Off on Each Other in Explosive Back-and-Forth"

‘You Went Back on a Pledge!’ Dem. Senator Gets Nasty With DNI Chief Dan Coats

Democratic Senator Ron Wyden and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats got into a heated skirmish at Wednesday’s Senate Intelligence hearing. Wyden was furious with Coats over his inability to discuss incidental surveillance during his testimony:
Mr. Director, as recently as April you promised Americans that you would provide what you called a relevant metric for the number of law-abiding Americans who were swept up in the FISA 702 searches. This morning, you went back on that promise and you said that even putting together a sampling, a statistical element, would jeopardize national security. I think that is a very, very damaging position to stake out. We’re gonna battle it out in the course of this, because there are a lot of Americans who share our view that security and liberty are not mutually exclusive. We can have both. You rejected that this morning! You went back on a pledge! Continue reading "‘You Went Back on a Pledge!’ Dem. Senator Gets Nasty With DNI Chief Dan Coats"
