On Friday, it was revealed Sarah Sanders was interviewed in the Russia probe. Sanders is just the latest among those closest to President Donald Trump and associated with his campaign to be ranked among those known to have been interviewed by the Special Counsel. However, CNN National Security Analyst Juliette Kayyem made the point during a panel on Erin Burnett‘s show that one name is notably absent from the list of interviewees, at least so far. That name is White House counselor and former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway. “I find this list fascinating because obviously some of them are from the campaign, some of them crossed over,” Kayyem began. “But these are the names we know, right? You and I watching TV getting to know the team, the campaign, the White House. These are the names we know because these are the ones Trump has put before us.” Continue reading "CNN National Security Analyst Asks: Why Do We ‘Never Hear About’ Kellyanne Conway in Mueller Developments?"

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders sat down with special counsel Robert Mueller‘s office for an interview. CNN broke the news this afternoon, and Sanders confirmed in a statement, “The President urged me, like he has everyone in the administration, to fully cooperate with the special counsel. I was happy to voluntarily sit down with them.” The report from CNN notes that it’s “unclear” what was raised in the interview, but that it’s likely her public statements on the Russia investigation came up, especially her comments concerning the president’s role in crafting the statement from Don Jr. on the infamous Trump Tower meeting. Per CNN:
As Mueller wraps up his Russia probe, one focus of investigators has been conflicting public statements by President Donald Trump and his team that could be seen as an effort to obstruct justice, according to people familiar with the investigation.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders dismissed the idea today that Ann Coulter has any level of influence in the White House. By now, you’ve probably heard that Coulter is incensed at President Donald Trump for signing the compromise border security bill and declaring a national emergency: Fox News’ Dana Perino spoke with Sanders today and asked about the level of conservative Continue reading "Sarah Sanders: ‘I Don’t Think Ann Coulter Has Any Influence Over This White House’ or Much of Anything"

The White House has issued a condemnatory statement on the attack on a BBC photojournalist by a Trump supporter at President Donald Trump‘s El Paso rally last night. The BBC posted video last night showing the attack and the White House Correspondents Association issued a statement calling on Trump to “make absolutely clear to his supporters that violence against reporters is unacceptable.” This afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders addressed the attack in a statement:
“President Trump condemns all acts of violence against any individual or group of people — including members of the press. We ask that anyone attending an event do so in a peaceful and respectful manner.”

Colbert Roasts Sarah Sanders for Having Same Reaction to Every News Story

On Friday night, Stephen Colbert started off his show with a sketch roasting White House press secretary Sarah Sanders for having the same reaction to every single news story. “Breaking news,” the faux-anchor says in the sketch before reporting Roger Stone‘s indictment. He then cuts to a clip of Sanders’ reaction. “This has nothing to do with the president,” Sanders is heard saying. “Really,  that’s surprising,  they were associates for many years,” the anchor says. The sketch then cuts to another broadcast where he breaks the news of Trump’s inaugural committee being subpoenaed for potential corruption before once again showing Sanders’ reaction. “It doesn’t involve the president,” Sanders says.  “It has nothing to do with the White House.” The anchor then notes Trump’s name is “right in there!” Finally, the sketch cuts to a future broadcast from April 2019, where he announces the breaking news that Continue reading "Colbert Roasts Sarah Sanders for Having Same Reaction to Every News Story"

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders talked about faith and God in an interview with CBN today. And she had this to say about President Donald Trump in particular: “I think God calls all of us to fill different roles at different times and I think that he wanted Donald Trump to become president, and that’s why he’s there. I think he has done a tremendous job in supporting a lot of the things that people of faith really care about.” We will add the video when it becomes available. [image via screengrab]

Sarah Sanders Throws Shade on MAGAs Mad at Trump: ‘Conservatives That Actually Have Influence Support the President’

On Monday, Sarah Sanders took questions in a multi-function press briefing, stepping to the podium after several Trump advisers spoke on policy issues including Venezuela, the economy, and more. In one exchange, Sanders coolly dissed conservative commentators who have been critical of President Donald Trump after the shutdown ended with no wall funding. Presumably, the particularly vocal and visible Ann Coulter was among those in the shade. Francesa Chambers of the Daily Mail asked the press secretary broadly about the fact that a second shutdown is not off the table if no deal is reached before the next deadline. “You’re not exactly ruling out another shut down,” she said, and asked if Sanders had any advice for federal workers and whether they should be worried that in a few weeks they’ll miss another paycheck. Sanders’ answer to that is what led to the influence burn. “My advice would be to Continue reading "Sarah Sanders Throws Shade on MAGAs Mad at Trump: ‘Conservatives That Actually Have Influence Support the President’"

WH Reporters Grill Sarah Sanders on Shutdown: If It’s an Emergency, Why Wait 3 Weeks to Declare It?

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders held the first press briefing since before the government shutdown and reporters opened with questions about this new February 15th deadline. ABC News’ Jon Karl asked right at the outset, “Is the president really willing to go through another shutdown if he can’t get money out of the Democrats for the border wall?” Sanders said President Donald Trump doesn’t want another shutdown, but to work with Democrats on border security. “The president has opened the government,” she said, “on the basis that Democrats have signals to us that they’re willing to actually get serious about a real deal and get serious about fixing the problem at the border, including funding for a border wall.”

At one point, NBC News’ Hallie Jackson brought up how Trump may use his executive authority and asked, “If the president truly believes that what’s happening is an Continue reading "WH Reporters Grill Sarah Sanders on Shutdown: If It’s an Emergency, Why Wait 3 Weeks to Declare It?"

Fox News’ John Roberts Breaks Out in Giggling Fit While Reporting Press Briefing’s Delayed Start

John Roberts is a consummate professional.  The Chief White House Correspondent for Fox News is a venerable news veteran with stints at CBS News and CNN. It was something of a coup when Fox News hired the award-winning journalist some eight years ago. His reputation proceeds him, so he can be forgiven for the very human fit of giggling he experienced on-air while reporting the shifting schedule start time of Monday’s White House Press Briefing to his Fox New cohort Harris Faulkner. White House press briefings are not only increasingly rare — the last proper briefing was held 41 days ago on December 18 of last year — they are also known to consistently start much later than they are originally scheduled. After a brief explanation on the White House position on the ongoing border security debate, Roberts said “apparently the briefing has been pushed back to 3:30,” before losing it Harvey Korman Continue reading "Fox News’ John Roberts Breaks Out in Giggling Fit While Reporting Press Briefing’s Delayed Start"

Sarah Sanders: Trump is ‘Moving Forward Building the Wall’ in 21 Days, With or Without the Dems

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders issued a statement via Twitter on Friday night insisting that President Donald Trump was going ahead with the wall in 21 days, with Democratic support or without. The tweet comes just after the Senate and House passed a continuing resolution to fund the government for three weeks. “In 21 days President @realDonaldTrump is moving forward building the wall with or without the Democrats,” Sanders wrote. “The only outstanding question is whether the Democrats want something or nothing.” Sanders’ tweet was a follow-up to Trump’s earlier tweet in which the president insisted the passing of the continuing resolution to end the shutdown — a measure that did Continue reading "Sarah Sanders: Trump is ‘Moving Forward Building the Wall’ in 21 Days, With or Without the Dems"

Sarah Sanders Refuses to Deny Trump Directed Roger Stone to Coordinate With WikiLeaks

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders appeared on CNN’s New Day Friday morning and consistently pushed back on host John Berman on questions that have arisen from Friday morning’s news that Roger Stone had been arrested by the FBI. Details from the unsealed indictment reveal that Stone is alleged to have been something of a proxy between the Trump campaign and Wikileaks over the coordinated release of information illegally gained by Russian operatives who are also under indictment by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Berman noted that Sanders was a member of the Trump campaign during this time frame, then asked pointedly “Were you aware of the effort to get in touch with Wikileaks through Roger Stone?” Sanders confirmed that she was a member of the campaign before repeating her standard reply that “there was no collusion, there was no wrongdoing by the president.” She then tried to flip the Continue reading "Sarah Sanders Refuses to Deny Trump Directed Roger Stone to Coordinate With WikiLeaks"

Sarah Sanders Gets Pilloried For Saying She’s ‘Never Seen People So Happy to Destroy a Kid’s Life’

“I’ve never seen people so happy to destroy a kid’s life.” Those were the words of White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday night. Appearing on Hannity, Sanders was speaking about the response to the Covington Catholic viral video. Her comments did not escape the notice of the twitter-sphere. Pundits, politicians, and others wasted little time bringing up various administration policies and personal acts from President Donald Trump which seemed to run very much afoul of her statement. Notably, Trump’s crusade to have the death penalty imposed on the later-exonerated Central Park Five was brought to the fore, as was the administration’s child migrant separation policy. Here’s just a small sampling of the reaction:

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders fired back at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in front of a press gaggle Friday, over an accusation that the Trump administration tried to sabotage Pelosi’s scheduled commercial flight to Afghanistan. “Unbecoming of the speaker to make that type of accusation,” said Sanders, per Jennifer Jacobs of Bloomberg News. “Outrageous that she would accuse the president of the United States of putting any life in jeopardy.” President Donald Trump had written a letter delaying Pelosi’s scheduled trip to Brussels and Afghanistan after she’d written a letter delaying his scheduled Continue reading "Sarah Sanders Fires Back at Pelosi Over Leaked Flight Charge: ‘Outrageous’ She’d Claim Trump Would Put Lives in ‘Jeopardy’"

Sarah Sanders tells Chris Wallace People ‘Misunderstand’ Trump: He’s ‘Not Fighting for the Wall’

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made an odd attempt to distance Trump from the central issue surrounding the government shutdown by insisting that Trump’s demand for border wall funds isn’t actually about the border wall. On Sunday morning’s edition of Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace pressed Sanders hard on the shutdown, particularly on Trump’s promise to leave the government closed for “years” if necessary.” “The president meant what he said, that he is prepared to fight for the wall, to continue the shut down for months or even years?” Wallace asked. “Well, I think that’s one of the things that people misunderstand,” Sanders said. “The president’s not fighting for the wall, he’s fighting for the protection of American citizens, but he cannot…” “But he wants the wall to do that,” Wallace interrupted. “Absolutely he wants the wall, and he wants a number of other Continue reading "Sarah Sanders tells Chris Wallace People ‘Misunderstand’ Trump: He’s ‘Not Fighting for the Wall’"

Fox’s Chris Wallace Repeatedly Nails Sarah Sanders on Bogus Border Terror Threat Claims

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders ran into a buzzsaw Sunday morning when Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace challenged the Trump administration’s repeated false claims about terrorism and the southwestern border of the United States. On this week’s edition of Fox News Sunday, Sanders told Wallace that President Trump meant what he said when he declared that he would keep the government shut down for “years” if necessary, in order to secure funding for his border wall. But then, Wallace attacked a central theme of Trump’s push for a wall, the lie that tons of terrorists are streaming over the border with Mexico. He played a clip of Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen claiming, at this week’s Rose Garden press conference, that “CBP has stopped over 3,000 what we call special interest aliens trying to come into the country on the southern border. Those are aliens who Continue reading "Fox’s Chris Wallace Repeatedly Nails Sarah Sanders on Bogus Border Terror Threat Claims"

The White House Press Shop is Reportedly Afraid to ‘Do Anything’ Thanks to Trump’s Changing Whims

The White House press shop is afraid to respond or do anything thanks to President Donald Trump‘s changing whims and comments, according to a prominent White House correspondent. The quote came from a Washington Post report on New Year’s Eve which noted that in recent days, the White House’s most common response, or rather non-response, has been “no comment.” As WaPo reports:

The White House has had no response to stories large and small in recent days: reports that Trump planned to meet with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome H. Powell, whom he has criticized (no response to Agence France-Presse); the partial shutdown of the federal government (no response to Reuters or USA Today); a report by an advocacy group that wealthy donors gave $55 million to groups supporting his reelection, despite Trump’s stated opposition to such donations during the 2016 campaign (no response to Continue reading "The White House Press Shop is Reportedly Afraid to ‘Do Anything’ Thanks to Trump’s Changing Whims"

Sarah Sanders: It’s ‘Ridiculous’ to Say Putin is ‘Happy’ Over Syria Withdrawal (He Is)

Sarah Huckabee Sanders is actively denying the news that Vladimir Putin is delighted by President Trump‘s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria. The press secretary held a scrum with reporters outside the White House on Friday morning, during which she was asked “what message does it send the Putin cheers the president and his own defense secretary [James Mattis] is upset about it?” “The idea that Putin is happy about this is ridiculous,” Sanders responded. “He’s not. This puts a greater emphasis and makes them have to actually step up and do Continue reading "Sarah Sanders: It’s ‘Ridiculous’ to Say Putin is ‘Happy’ Over Syria Withdrawal (He Is)"

Joe Lockhart Compares Sarah Sanders to Baghdad Bob: World Does Not Believe US Government Anymore

The standard presidential decorum of former Presidents avoid criticizing the current resident of the White House appears to not apply to White House Press Secretaries. During Wednesday morning appearance on CNN New Day, the former Clinton Press Secretary Joe Lockhart shared harsh criticism for current Press Secretary Sarah Sanders saying that she’s “not doing her job.” Lockhart reminded viewers that he held the same job, even during an impeachment before continuing his critique of Sanders. “You have to adhere to the truth and she has stopped doing that,” Lockhart said, before adding “this is kind of the equivalent of Sean Spicer saying that that was the biggest inaugural crowd ever and you looked at the picture and there was hardly anyone there.” “The U.S. government and the spokespeople for it have traditionally been the thing that the rest of the world counts on,” he said, adding “we don’t Continue reading "Joe Lockhart Compares Sarah Sanders to Baghdad Bob: World Does Not Believe US Government Anymore"

Sarah Sanders: ‘If Certain Reporters Like Jim Acosta Can’t Be Adults,’ Then CNN Should Send Someone Who Can Be

Sarah Huckabee Sanders took another shot at CNN’s Jim Acosta tonight in an interview on Hannity with… Mike Huckabee. The White House Press Secretary’s father began the interview by asking her about the protocol for decorum being worked on after the judge’s ruling in Acosta’s favor today. Sanders said the White House supports a free press, but added that “freedom of the press doesn’t mean freedom to be disruptive, freedom to be rude, freedom to interrupt.” She claimed that they sent CNN a letter tonight laying out “what we think were some of the missteps that their reporter made at the press conference… and we expect to see a response from that.” In an interview today, the President himself said, after the ruling, if Acosta “misbehaves” they’ll throw him out again. And Sanders said they don’t want reporters to be “disruptive” and impede anyone’s ability to do their Continue reading "Sarah Sanders: ‘If Certain Reporters Like Jim Acosta Can’t Be Adults,’ Then CNN Should Send Someone Who Can Be"

Sarah Sanders Responds to CNN Lawsuit: Jim Acosta’s Credential Will Be ‘Temporarily Restored’

The White House says it is prepared to restore access for CNN’s Jim Acosta following a judge’s ruling Friday. In a statement, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that the White House will “temporarily restore” Acosta’s credential. However, Sanders indicated that the White House will “further develop rules and processes” meant to ensure “orderly” news conferences. “Today, the court made clear that there is no absolute First Amendment right to access the White House,” Sanders said in the statement. “In response to the court, we will temporarily reinstate the reporter’s hard pass. We will also further develop rules and processes to ensure fair and orderly press conferences in the future. There must be decorum at the White House.” Acosta’s pass was originally pulled on Nov. 7 following a press conference standoff with President Donald Trump. But Judge Timothy J. Kelly ruled Friday that the White House return the Continue reading "Sarah Sanders Responds to CNN Lawsuit: Jim Acosta’s Credential Will Be ‘Temporarily Restored’"
