Warriors Coach Steve Kerr Blasts Trump’s ‘Military Sing-a-Long’ as Faux-Patriotism

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr had some harsh words for President Trump after he disinvited the Philadelphia Eagles from the White House this week. Kerr was asked about the community service WNBA Champion team The Lynx are taking part of in Washington D.C. in the midst of Trump’s ongoing feud with athletes. “I think what you’re seeing is- I think the athletes are showing patriotism. through their community service,” Kerr told reporters. “The president is turning all of this stuff into a political game and a ratings game and it’s a Continue reading "Warriors Coach Steve Kerr Blasts Trump’s ‘Military Sing-a-Long’ as Faux-Patriotism"

Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins Holds Up Signs in Stunning Press Conference: ‘YOU AREN’T LISTENING’

Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins had a message for President Donald Trump and others just one day after Trump’s decision to disinvite them from a White House celebration on June 5 to mark their Super Bowl win. And he never uttered a single word. In a stunningly silent press conference, Jenkins held up a sign reading “More than 60% of people in prison are people of color” during a locker room meeting with the press. Then, as reporters asked him questions, to which he did not respond, he held up a second sign saying, “Nearly 200,000 juveniles enter the adult criminal system each year, most for non-violent crimes.” With mics pushed in and questions continuing one reporter asked if Jenkins was “just gonna use these posters.” Jenkins did not respond, instead holding up a sign reading, “you aren’t listening.” Jenkins was not done yet. As reporters continued Continue reading "Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins Holds Up Signs in Stunning Press Conference: ‘YOU AREN’T LISTENING’"

CNN’s Angela Rye: The National Anthem Is ‘Problematic In and Of Itself’

On CNN on Tuesday, Jake Tapper was discussing the NFL and President Trump with his panel on The Lead, and the conversation at one point turned specifically to the Anthem itself. CNN Commentator and NPR Analyst Angela Rye argued that Trump is using the anthem issue as a wedge and in order to stoke racial tensions ahead of the elections in November. GOP commentator and former Mitch McConnell campaign manager Josh Holmes disputed that, saying the President has a “well-articulated” position on standing during the national anthem. As the conversation continued, Rye said that Trump’s biggest problem with the Eagles was that his ego couldn’t countenance a small gathering with few players. Then she turned to the anthem itself. “We’re going to now end up in a midterm where we’re talking about the national anthem,” she said. “The national anthem is problematic in and of itself, there’s a second Continue reading "CNN’s Angela Rye: The National Anthem Is ‘Problematic In and Of Itself’"

Is the Media Even Aware that Trump Has Had a Grudge Against the NFL Since the 1980s?

It has always amazed me how short, even in the era of easy access to history provided by Google, the memories are of most of those who are reporting the news. This, combined with a stunning inability to put pieces of even rather simple puzzles together, often makes for a dicey combination when it comes to how important stories are told. We are now almost a year into the contrived battle between President Donald Trump and the NFL over the national anthem, which is easily the most overblown narrative of the Trump administration, if not the country itself. And yet, I surmise that a huge majority of the population still has no idea about what may be the key fact which is driving at least part of the controversy. I am referring to the reality that Trump has a very clear and deeply intense reason to possess a personal Continue reading "Is the Media Even Aware that Trump Has Had a Grudge Against the NFL Since the 1980s?"

NFL Network: Only One Single Player Was Set to Attend Philadelphia Eagles Event at White House

The NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo was able to get confirmation on Tuesday that the number of players from the Philadelphia Eagles who were confirmed to attend the White House event celebrating their Super Bowl victory was less even than the “10 or fewer” number they first reported on Monday. In fact, the only person they knew was confirmed to attend was Super Bowl MVP Quarterback Nick Foles. There would potentially have been at most two additional players, for a total of three or fewer, said Garafolo. The White House said “no thanks”, as Garafolo put it. President Donald Trump abruptly disinvited the Super Bowl-Champions on Monday, after finding out that most of the team would not be attending the celebration. In a statement, he blamed the cancellation on national anthem protests, but none of the Eagles knelt for the anthem during last season. After calling off the event, Trump instead Continue reading "NFL Network: Only One Single Player Was Set to Attend Philadelphia Eagles Event at White House"

LeBron, Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr Slam Trump over Eagles Feud: He’ll ‘Try to Divide All of Us’ For ‘Political Gain’

The stars of the NBA Finals on both teams banded together on Tuesday against President Donald Trump, as LeBron James, Steve Kerr, and Stephen Curry all made it clear that their teams will not be visiting the White House, regardless of who wins. “I know no matter who wins this series, no one wants the invite anyway,” said James, the Cleveland Cavaliers star, while speaking during an NBA Finals presser. “It won’t be Golden State or Cleveland going.” Kerr, the Golden State Warriors head coach, said he wasn’t surprised by Trump’s attacks against the Super Continue reading "LeBron, Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr Slam Trump over Eagles Feud: He’ll ‘Try to Divide All of Us’ For ‘Political Gain’"

Stephen A. Smith Says Trump is Winning Big on NFL Protests: He’s Got The League ‘By the You Know What’

Stephen A. Smith is weighing in on the debate over the NFL protests in which players have been kneeling during the National Anthem to protest social injustice. And the ESPN commentator is going on the record — stating President Donald Trump knows he has the power to pull the strings in the league. “Donald Trump has the NFL in the palm of his hands,” Smith said Tuesday on First Take. “He can do whatever he wants to them right now because of the positions they’ve taken or the positions they refuse to take, preceding the whole Colin Kaepernick thing.” Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who began kneeling in 2016 to protest racism and police brutality, has received backlash from the president who feels the demonstrations by him and others are unpatriotic. Smith said the source of Trump’s influence in the football industry is the simple fact that Continue reading "Stephen A.
