NBC Sports Analyst Mary Carillo: At Her Worst, Serena Williams ‘Acts Like a Bully’

Mary Carillo, former professional tennis player turned NBC Sports reporter, said that Serena Williams acted like a “bully” at the U.S. Open on Saturday during her explosive loss to young tennis star Naomi Osaka. Carillo first noted that Carlos Ramos — the chair umpire who stoked controversy at the US Open on Saturday after handing Williams three code-of-conduct violations, the last one awarding her opponent Osaka a game in the second set — is “very, very respected.” “He has been doing big matches for decades,” she said. “At her very best — and she is very often at her very best — I respect and admire Serena beyond measure,” Carillo continued. “She is so powerful, she’s an important voice, she’s a ferocious competitor.” “But at her very worst, as she was on this night, she acts like a bully,” Carillo said. “And you make a career Continue reading "NBC Sports Analyst Mary Carillo: At Her Worst, Serena Williams ‘Acts Like a Bully’"

Miami Dolphins Players Become First to Kneel During Anthem This Season

Miami Dolphins wide receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson today became the first players this season to protest during the national anthem by taking a knee, before the team’s season opening game against the Tennessee Titans. Earlier today President Trump tweeted again about the kneeling controversy and ESPN reported the NFL will not be instituting a new policy regarding anthem protests this season. Stills and Wilson knelt, and defensive end Robert Quinn raised a fist, during the National Anthem on Sunday, continuing the protest first undertaken by former quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Both receivers also kneeled during pre-season games,

WATCH: Serena Williams Has Explosive Confrontation With Umpire at US Open, Twitter Melts Down

On Saturday, Serena Williams did not exactly take kindly to a rule violation during the second set of the U.S. Open women’s singles final on Saturday. And the resulting confrontation with the chair umpire turned into one of the wildest moments in tennis history. Williams was playing Naomi Osaka when the chair umpire said she received illegal coaching. Williams was assessed a code violation and given a warning. Moments later, Williams smashed her racket — resulting in a second violation, which resulted in the automatic loss of a point. “I don’t cheat to win, I’d rather lose. I’m just letting you know,” snapped back at the umpire. After being docked a game, Williams said: “That’s not right. That’s not right. You know my character.” Williams then called the umpire, Carlos Ramos of Portugal, a “thief” for penalizing her a point. After this remark — the chair ump took the unfathomable Continue reading "WATCH: Serena Williams Has Explosive Confrontation With Umpire at US Open, Twitter Melts Down"

Fox Business Guest: ‘It’s Un-American Not to Boycott’ Nike Over Kaepernick Ad

It’s hard to out-crazy Kurt Schlichter, author of Second Civil War erotica. But his fellow guest on Fox Business Network Friday afternoon came pretty close. Eric Schiffer, an entrepreneur, was asked to respond to Nike’s new ad campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback best known for kicking off the league’s protests against police brutality that involved kneeling for the national anthem. Schiffer was furious. Of Nike, he told Fox host Liz MacDonald: “They’re phrase ‘Just Do It’ means ‘We don’t care about conservatives.'” The entrepreneur then declared it “un-American” not to boycott Nike over the ad. Schlichter closed out the interview with a high-octane rant about Nike alienating “the half of Americans who built this country, defend this country, feed and fuel this country, make this country work.” “We aren’t playing, we’re done, good luck to you, adios Nike!” he concluded. How to Watch the NFL Season Opener — Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons Live Stream Online

After an eight month wait, NFL football is back — as the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles (we can’t believe it either) play host to the Atlanta Falcons at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday night. The Eagles’ eight month-long victory lap essentially concludes tonight, as the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl championship banner will be unveiled before what is sure to be a raucous sellout crowd. Nick Foles, the man who quartebacked that team to its unlikely triumph, will get the start under center Thursday night — as starter Carson Wentz is not yet ready to return to action. Can the Eagles repeat, in what figures to be a very tough NFC? The Falcons were just two yards away from thwarting the Eagles’ unfathomable playoff run before it ever really began. But down 15-10, the vaunted Atlanta offense couldn’t convert on a fourth and goal from the two yard Continue reading "How to Watch the NFL Season Opener — Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons Live Stream Online"

The View’s Audience, Hosts Erupt in Cheers After Playing Kaepernick Nike Ad: ‘YES!’

Nike unveiled their new ad campaign featuring former 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick this week, resulting in controversy and even a boycott, with some who oppose Kaepernick’s national anthem protest burning their own Nike products. But on The View, the new video spot for the campaign aired to rave review. They began by playing the ad in its entirety. Immediately after, co-host Sunny Hostin raised her arms to cheer as the audience likewise cheered and applauded. “It is an inspiring ad,” said co-host Whoopi Goldberg. “It focuses on inspiring athletes, and it avoids the knee controversy. It is everything that Nike has stood for.” “Be — be — be the best. Do it. Just do it. Don’t be afraid of it. Do it,” she added, invoking the brand slogan. “And know that sometimes there are consequences to what you do.” “As Americans, we do just do it, so Continue reading "The View’s Audience, Hosts Erupt in Cheers After Playing Kaepernick Nike Ad: ‘YES!’"
