That Time Trump Used Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Defend Paula Deen Over N-Word Controversy

Vice President Mike Pence is coming under criticism for comparing Donald Trump with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the slain civil rights icon’s holiday weekend, but he certainly doesn’t have a monopoly on misusing Dr. King’s legacy. Trump himself once used Dr. King’s name to deflect attention from Paula Deen‘s use of the n-word. In 2013, then-celebrity chef Deen saw her career crumble after she admitted, in a legal deposition, to using the n-word. Deen had been a judge for Trump’s Miss USA pageant, which may explain why Trump jumped to defend her. Or maybe it was something else. When the scandal broke in June of 2013, Trump’s first instinct was to give Deen “credit fot admitting her mistake”:

Fox News’ Ed Henry Goes Off After Statement from Mueller Office: ‘Critics of the President Should Wake Up’

Fox News’ Ed Henry went on a tear against the media tonight after Robert Mueller‘s office put out a statement disputing BuzzFeed’s report about President Donald Trump telling Michael Cohen to lie. Mueller spokesman Peter Carr said tonight, “BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate.” BuzzFeed is standing by its reporting. Henry noted to Tucker Carlson tonight what a rarity it is to hear from Mueller’s office, before bringing up how much coverage there was in the past 24 hours about this report. “As a reporter, I’m getting kind of angry about this,” he said. At one point he told Carlson the press should push back when Trump attacks “fake news,” but that things like this only give him fodder:
“The critics of the president should wake Continue reading "Fox News’ Ed Henry Goes Off After Statement from Mueller Office: ‘Critics of the President Should Wake Up’"

Glenn Greenwald and Tucker Carlson Go on the Attack Against Tulsi Gabbard’s Critics: ‘Democrats Hate Her’

“I’m not a supporter of Congresswoman Gabbard’s candidacy,” Glenn Greenwald declared at the start of his Fox News interview with Tucker Carlson on whether the Hawaii congresswoman and 2020 candidate is being “unfairly attacked.” “There are some really legitimate and serious concerns that I have that have been raised by the real left, not the Democratic Party liberals,” Greenwald said of Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI). He listed them: “her support for the war on terror, her affinity for Hindu nationalism in India, her affection for some really terrible dictators.” Those do seem bad! Praising the “courage” of dictators like Sisi certainly raises a few red flags. But while those are apparently serious concerns for Greenwald, he continued that they are not the reasons why Gabbard is being unfairly smeared by the Democratic apparatus. “What’s really going on,” Greenwald told the Fox News audience, is that “Democrats hate Continue reading "Glenn Greenwald and Tucker Carlson Go on the Attack Against Tulsi Gabbard’s Critics: ‘Democrats Hate Her’"

Tucker Carlson Knocks the FBI Over New Trump-Russia Report

Tucker Carlson blasted the FBI in reaction to the stunning new report that they opened an inquiry into whether President Donald Trump was secretly working for Russia. The New York Times dropped this bombshell report tonight, detailing how this inquiry was opened after the firing of James Comey, and how it ended up under the purview of Robert Mueller. Carlson reacted by telling viewers “this is why you should never criticize the FBI”:
“You think it’s your birthright as an American. You can do it. I wouldn’t try it though. They might open an investigation into you without your knowledge into something appalling. Maybe it’s beating your wife, maybe it’s dealing fentanyl to kids, maybe it’s betraying your country in some alliance with Vladimir Putin. You don’t need to have done it. But once they investigate you, they can always leak two years later that they were investigating you Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Knocks the FBI Over New Trump-Russia Report"

Rick Wilson Responds to ‘Tucker-Viewer’ Hate Mail: ‘So Many Tough, Manly, Robust Trump Supporters’

On Friday night, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson ripped Republican strategist Rick Wilson for saying that President Donald Trump‘s wall has been a “con” of his “credulous rube 10-toothed base.” “Wilson seems to spend most of his life opining in one of those 6-guest shout-fests in boxes that the other channels specialize in. He’s often shouting the loudest. What makes Wilson notable like so many on the left he’s moved on from hating Trump to hate people who voted for Trump,” Carlson said, in part.  In response, Wilson saw his email box flooded. So, he shared some of them — along with his response — on Twitter. Here they are [email addresses omitted]: One person wished his entire family “irreversable” cancer. Another said this: Then there was Dave: And these guys: Then after sharing one more, Wilson wrote this: “You know, I’m sensing a pattern with

Last night we reported on Republican strategist and frequent cable news pundit Rick Wilson saying the wall promise has been a “con” from President Donald Trump to his “credulous rube 10-toothed base.” Tucker Carlson tonight went on a tear against Wilson in response. Wilson was the main focus of a segment Carlson did on media condescension to Trump voters. Carlson called Wilson “a semi-obscure consultant who’s held just enough low-level political jobs that cable television producers can bill him as a Republican strategist.” “Wilson seems to spend most of his life opining in one of those 6-guest shout-fests in boxes that the other channels specialize in. He’s often shouting the loudest. What makes Wilson notable like so many on the left he’s moved on from hating Trump to hate people who voted for Trump,” Carlson continued. And after playing his comments last night, Carlson said, “What a cruel

CNN’s Brian Stelter Calls Out Tucker Carlson For Airing a ‘Racial Slur’

CNN media critic and Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter called out Fox News host Tucker Carlson for airing a “racial slur” during a segment on Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and her potential 2020 run. “Fox’s 8pm show parroting Trump, putting a racial slur right on screen,” Stelter tweeted in response to a screengrab of Carlson’s show, in which the chyron read, “Pocahontas 2020?” “Pocahontas” is an insult President Donald Trump uses against Warren, as he often claims she lied about her ethnicity and overstated her Native-American heritage to get a high paying job teaching at Harvard University. While the evidence for this accusation is lacking, Warren placed herself on the “Minority Law Teachers” list while teaching at University of Pennsylvania Law. As for Carlson and Stelter, their beef Continue reading "CNN’s Brian Stelter Calls Out Tucker Carlson For Airing a ‘Racial Slur’"

The View’s Abby Huntsman Shocked by Tucker Carlson’s Pay Equality Remarks: ‘Different From the Tucker I Know’

Abby Huntsman was dismayed on Thursday as she spoke to her colleagues on The View about Fox News’ Tucker Carlson and his recent comments about “men in decline” due to pay equality. Carlson said on his show Wednesday night that women making more money than men leads to increased incarceration rates and substance abuse. The entire View panel was taken aback by his remarks, but Huntsman, a former Fox Newser who co-hosted Fox and Friends with him on weekends, took the lead by expressing her disappointment.
“I anchored a show with Tucker…This is so different than the Tucker I know. He was so supportive of my career and wanted me to succeed. He’s also a big proponent of marriage and families – that’s probably the biggest thing for him – but he was always great to anyone he worked with: people of different backgrounds, immigrants. He loved helping them out…”

Tucker Carlson: Women Making More Money Than Men Causes Higher Substance Abuse, Incarceration

On Wednesday night, Tucker Carlson drew a connection between wage increases for women and higher incarceration rates and substance abuse among men. As the Fox host talked about the intersection between culture and economics, he argued that rural America is starting to look like areas of urban decay since both areas are contending with male unemployment, drug epidemics and increased amounts of children being born out of wedlock. This led to Carlson accusing liberals of ignoring the plight of inner city dysfunctional families in favor of social programs to generate reliable voters.
“You think our ruling class would be deeply interested in knowing the answer, but mostly, they are not. They don’t have to be interested. It’s easier to import foreign labor to take the place of native born Americans who are slipping behind. But Republicans now represent rural voters. They ought to be interested.”
The answer, Carlson said, Continue reading "Tucker Carlson: Women Making More Money Than Men Causes Higher Substance Abuse, Incarceration"

Late Show host Stephen Colbert did not hold back when talking about Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Wednesday night. In fact, he said he’s “nothing if not the little racist who could.” The comment came while Colbert was talking about Carlson’s controversial immigration remarks that have sparked advertisers pulling out. “Carlson’s already got a reputation for flirting with racism, but last week, he took it to a racy new level,” Colbert said. He then aired a clip of Carlson saying immigrations would make America “poorer and dirtier.” Colbert continued on: “Now if just listening to him say that makes you feel dirty and more divided, you’re not alone. Tucker got a lot of heat for those remarks. But he’s nothing if not a little racist who could, and he came chuggin’ back up that hill on Monday with a new reason he doesn’t like immigrants: He just Continue reading "Stephen Colbert Slams Tucker Carlson: ‘He’s Nothing If Not a Little Racist Who Could’"

Alan Dershowitz to Tucker Carlson: I Hate Boycotts, But ‘I Wish You Hadn’t Used That Language’ About Immigration

Alan Dershowitz began his appearance on Tucker Carlson‘s show tonight by going out of his way to bringing up the advertiser boycott against Carlson. A number of companies have pulled ads from Carlson’s show in the past few days following outrage over comments he made about immigration that “we have a moral obligation to accept the world’s poor, they tell us, even if it makes our own country poorer, and dirtier, and more divided.” Carlson brought on Dershowitz to talk about Michael Flynn, but Dershowitz immediately changed topic and told him, “I hate boycotts and attempts to censor free speech. I’m in favor of complete dialogue, but as such, I feel compelled to tell you that I––with due respect––disagree with the way you categorize mass immigration. That’s all. I just want to say that.” He expressed some thanks to Carlson for allowing for a forum where Continue reading "Alan Dershowitz to Tucker Carlson: I Hate Boycotts, But ‘I Wish You Hadn’t Used That Language’ About Immigration"

On Fox News on Tuesday, host Tucker Carlson and contributor Tammy Bruce discussed the ‘War on Christmas’, and offered a recent controversial move to gender-less gingerbread cookies as an example of a new international front in the struggle. “The war on Christmas is a global struggle,” said Carlson in his introduction of the segment. “In the parliament of Scotland – they have a national parliament – the coffee shop has stopped selling gingerbread men. Why? Gender specific. They’re not called gingerbread people, you don’t want to give them a gender without their consent.” “You don’t even want to know how many bathrooms there are in gingerbread houses now,” Carlson joked. “A lot.” Carlson brought in Bruce, who added a bit more to the backstory (see here) about the ginger-neutral baked goods and the attendant backlash. “The left has worked now for a couple of generations Continue reading "Tammy Bruce Objects to Ginger-Neutral Christmas Cookies: ‘Obviously, They’re Men’"

Cenk Uygur Defends Tucker Carlson Over Advertiser Boycott: ‘Let the Audience Make That Decision’

Tucker Carlson has found an unlikely supporter amidst the sturm and drang around his show:  The Young Turks host and champion of the “fighting left” Cenk Ugyur. The Fox News primetime host finds himself losing advertising support over what many see as inflammatory comments on America’s complex immigration problems. At least fifteen advertisers have pulled their spots after Carlson claimed on his primetime show last week that immigration “makes our own country poor and dirtier and more divided.” But Uygur believes that a social media-fueled advertiser boycott is the not the way to go. “We all have to work harder to address the root causes instead of trying to put a band-aid on it by banning things,” Cenk Uygur said on The Young Turks Tuesday evening.  “I think as odious as Tucker Carlson’s comments are, he gets to make that and we get to make the counterargument. It’s not a First Amendment issue…” Uygur Continue reading "Cenk Uygur Defends Tucker Carlson Over Advertiser Boycott: ‘Let the Audience Make That Decision’"

Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo Rip Tucker Carlson: ‘Uses His Platform to Demonize Immigrants’

CNN’s Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon tonight ripped Fox News’ Tucker Carlson for the comments he made about immigrants that kicked off an advertiser boycott. A number of companies have pulled ads from Carlson’s show after he talked about immigration making the U.S. “dirtier.” Carlson last night responded and said he won’t be “intimidated.” After more companies withdrew ads today, Fox News put out a statement denouncing “agenda-driven intimidation efforts from the likes of Moveon.org, Media Matters and Sleeping Giants.” Tonight Cuomo briefly showed the clip of Carlson and asked, “Dirtier? Is he really talking about human beings that way?” He told Lemon, “I don’t ordinarily play hateful speech on the show, but it’s important for people to see what someone’s trying to pass off as news.” Lemon admitted he generally tries not to criticize colleagues, but noted that Fox News programming a Continue reading "Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo Rip Tucker Carlson: ‘Uses His Platform to Demonize Immigrants’"

At the close of his show on Thursday night, Tucker Carlson warned of the menace of drunk raccoons that are staggering around a West Virginia town. “There’s a strong public service component to the show and we have reportedly warned you about the threat that zombie raccoons may pose to this country,” Carlson said with a serious look. “Raccoons don’t have to be zombies to be a danger. In the state of West Virginia, a new crisis has emerged, drunk raccoons. Police in the town of Milton, West Virginia, are warning residents there about staggering and disoriented raccoons who are roaming the streets. Officers say the animals have eaten fermented crab apples and become intoxicated.” He added: “So far the drunk records and the zombie raccoons have not made contact or mated but the situation is fluid and will be monitoring it for developments.” At least two of Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Reports on West Virginia’s Drunk and Disorderly Raccoon Menace"

CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski accused Fox News host Tucker Carlson of smearing him in his broadcast Thursday night, claiming this is the second time he has pushed “lies.” “Last year @TuckerCarlson spread lies about me when my family was getting death threats and had to flee our home,” Kaczynski wrote in a Twitter thread on Carlson’s comments. “He did so again last night. He never reached out for comment either time.” Kaczynski, the head of CNN’s investigative “KFile” team went on to post a Gizmodo piece with the backstory on Carlson’s attacks, which started when Kaczynski published an article on a pro-Trump Reddit user who created a meme that was shared by the president. The Reddit user, named “HanAssholeSolo,” had a history of sharing antisemitic, bigoted content, but one of his GIFs — an edited clip of a WrestleMania match where a fighter with Trump’s likeness beats up a Continue reading "CNN Reporter Andrew Kaczynski Accuses Tucker Carlson of Spreading ‘Lies’ About Him"

Tucker Carlson Calls CNN Hypocrites on Free Speech: They ‘Led the Campaign’ Against Alex Jones

On Fox News on Wednesday night, Tucker Carlson said that CNN is one of the “greatest enemies” of free speech, citing their reporting on Alex Jones as one example, arguing that the network is now posing as a First Amendment defender in light of Jim Acosta‘s banishment. “In the past couple of days, you’ve heard a lot of pumping and puffing about free speech and freedom of the press, and how those freedoms are currently imperiled by the White House, and to be clear, we are for free speech. Unfettered, absolute free speech.” he began. “And we cannot help but notice that some of free speech’s greatest enemies are now posing as its defenders, all of a sudden.” That’s when he turned to CNN. “Take CNN, for example. It was a CNN that almost single-handedly led the campaign to have broadcaster Alex Jones banished from the Internet, Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Calls CNN Hypocrites on Free Speech: They ‘Led the Campaign’ Against Alex Jones"
