Vanderbilt Player Convicted of Rape Reportedly Calls it Payback for ‘400 Years of Slavery’

maxresdefault-300x169According to a report in the Tennessean, former Vanderbilt football player and convicted rapist Cory Batey — who was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison — said that the motive for his crime was a payback for slavery. “That’s for 400 years of slavery you b—-,” Batey said during the rape, according to multiple Tennessean sources. The story says that prosecutors acknowledged a racial statement was made, but it was never mentioned in open court. Police said that Batey and three other former Vanderbilt players raped a 21-year-old woman on the floor while she was unconscious. In addition to Batey, one of the other players has already been convicted on eight counts, while two others pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial. Batey’s 15-year sentence, imposed by Judge Monte Watkins, was the mandatory minimum for the crime under Tennessee law.
