Mira Ricardel is transitioning out of her role as deputy national security adviser after First Lady Melania Trump took the unusual step of calling for her ouster. In a statement sent to the press on Tuesday, spokesperson Stephanie Grisham wrote, “It is the position of the Office of the First Lady that [Mira Ricardel] no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House.” Ricardel’s “strong personality” reportedly led to reports of tension with Mrs. Trump, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, and chief of staff John Kelly and there was even a report that she had been fired and led off the White House grounds (which was later corrected). However, the statement by White House press secretary Sarah Sanders makes it clear that while she will be moved to a new role, she will still be part of the Trump administration. “Mira Ricardel will continue to support the President as she departs the House to transition to a new role within the Administration,” Sanders’ statement reads. “The President is grateful for Ms. Ricardel’s continued service to the American people and her steadfast pursuit of his national security priorities.
