Last week, Fox News star Tucker Carlson accused Republicans of rejecting economic patriotism out of fear they “might make the Koch brothers angry.” While he now castigates those lawmakers as being in the pocket of big Koch, Carlson himself has a long history of ties to the billionaires’ vast network. Contempt for Koch money has become a recurring theme on the 8 p.m. hour of Fox News prime-time. But Carlson once decried critics of Charles and David Koch, critics who attacked the billionaires in the same way he does now. Notably, Carlson warned in 2014 that Democrats were nearing McCarthyism after then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Koch influence in politics “un-American.” Carlson launched his latest broadside against the Kochs during a June 5 segment praising Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren’s “plan for economic patriotism,” which he used to hit Republicans not in favor of President Continue reading "Tucker Carlson’s Curious Turn From Koch Brothers Evangelist to Their Harshest Critic at Fox News"

First-son Donald Trump Jr. threatened to campaign against Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) this morning, saying that he plans to visit the anti-Trump lawmaker next “primary season.” “See you soon Justin,” Don Jr. tweeted in response to a poll showing Amash’s Republican primary challenger 16 points ahead of him. “I hear Michigan is beautiful during primary season.” The eldest Trump son’s tweet comes just after news circulated Wednesday that President Donald Trump has discussed supporting Amash’s primary challenger with Vice President Mike Pence and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) in response to the libertarian lawmaker announcing his support for impeachment. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) shrugged off questions about a recent Politico report on his wife, Transportation Department Secretary Elaine Chao, using her government powers to carry out special favors for her husband in McConnell’s home state of Kentucky. “You know, I was complaining to her just last night, 169 projects and Kentucky got only five,” McConnell replied today after a reporter asked if he received “special treatment or consideration” from Chao. “I hope we’ll do a lot better next year.” Earlier this week, Politico reported that Chao dispatched a special Kentucky liaison, Todd Inman, focused on managing Continue reading "McConnell Denies Special Treatment from Wife Elaine Chao: ‘I Was Complaining to Her Just Last Night’"

HBO’s Real Time host Bill Maher defended former Vice President Joe Biden  against progressive criticisms of his past political record, saying that the leading Democratic 2020 candidate has already “learned and moved on” from his problematic history. Maher spoke to CNN’s Chris Cuomo in an interview that aired in parts both on Monday and Tuesday night. “He was between a rock and a hard place,” Maher said of Biden’s recent pivot from supporting to opposing the Hyde Amendment. “He’s going to be that way for the rest of this campaign, because right now when he got in sitting well with the traditional centrist Democrats that make up most of the country.” “People in this age don’t understand that humans evolve just like societies evolve and by the way to all the people that are so harsh on the past, there are things that you’re doing right now that are Continue reading "Bill Maher Pushes Back Against Criticisms of Biden’s Old Views: He Has ‘Learned and Moved On’"

Former Vice President Joe Biden mocked President Donald Trump’s conspiracy theories about climate change during a stump speech at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa today. “President Trump? He denies climate change. What did he tell Piers Morgan in an interview recently? He said well, weather goes both ways,” Biden said to laughter from the crowd. “This reminds me when he tweeted in the winter… ‘It was cold outside, there’s no such thing as climate change.’ As my mother would say, bless me father for I have sinned.” The leading Democratic presidential candadite went on to jokinhly bring up the time Trump suggested the California wildfires could have been avoided if homeowners raked their leaves. “This could be material a stand-up comic could use if it weren’t so true,” he added. “Look, if this wasn’t so serious it would be just another rich guy living in a gold Continue reading "Biden Mocks Trump on Climate Change: He Thinks ‘Windmills Cause Cancer’"

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) predicted that former special counsel Robert Mueller will testify before Congress “way before” the end of summer. Nadler made the comments during an appearance on MSNBC tonight after host Ari Melber asked him if Mueller has agreed to a testimony date yet. “Well, we’re carrying on conversations with him,” Nadler said. “And he will come in, and if we have to subpoena him, we will.” After Melber asked if viewers can expect a Mueller testimony by the time summer is over, Nadler confidently replied, “Oh, I would think it would be way before that,” but declined to comment further on specifics. Earlier this week, Nadler announced more progress on his review of the special counsel’s report after House Democrats agreed to a deal with the Justice Department to review evidence related to the Mueller report. “Robert Mueller’s most important files … [provide] us Continue reading "Nadler Expects Mueller Will Testify ‘Way Before’ End of Summer"

The media entrepreneur in charge of bringing back Gawker — which published an obit just after Margaret Thatcher’s death slamming her “reactionary worldview and utter lack of compassion” — has a framed photo of the late prime minister in his New York office. That detail about Bryan Goldberg — the founder of Bustle.com who has made it a hobby to buy struggling or shuttered websites and shoot for profitability by shedding employees and expenses — was included in a Bloomberg Businessweek profile on how the 35-year-old plans to bring Gawker back this fall. Goldberg, of course, is precisely the kind of rich and powerful media figure that Gawker was known to viciously mock in its heyday. In fact, before the website closed due to a $31 million legal settlement to Hulk Hogan in 2016, Gawker ripped the entrepreneur’s portfolio, publishing an item in 2012 describing his sports blog Bleacher Continue reading "The Guy Bringing Back Gawker Keeps a Framed Photo of Margaret Thatcher in His Office"

St. Louis Post-Dispatch published a letter yesterday penned by St. Louis Blues owner Tom Stillman in which he celebrated the city’s first Stanley Cup victory and thanking the fans after the record season — even though the Blues series against the Boston Bruins is still ongoing. The final game of the 7-game series will be held in Boston on Wednesday, but the local paper’s botched advertising rollout commemorated “the elation of breaking through and bringing St. Louis its first-ever Stanley Cup,” reports ESPN. The Post-Dispatch‘s content coordinator Beth O’Malley released a statement playing off the premature ads as teasers of what’s to come if the Blues do win the series. “In preparation for the outcome of the Stanley Cup Final, some of our readers got a sneak peek at what our advertisers are hoping to say to the Blues, the fans and St. Louis,” O’Malley wrote. “We apologize for Continue reading "St. Louis Newspaper Accidentally Runs Ads Prematurely Celebrating Blues Stanley Cup Win"

Charlie Kirk, the founder of the white supremacist infested right-wing youth group Turning Point USA, may have posted his dumbest tweet yet. While Kirk — a college drop-out who started a conservative college organization — is known for constantly posting hilariously false comments during his constant online fangirling for President Donald Trump, but the last night, his posts may have reached a new level. “Trump is the first leader in the history of the world to be attacked for improving the lives of the citizens that voted for him,” wrote Kirk. Does it rival the time Kirk wrote in a tweet that he gets “countless of messages from students who say professors are lowering their grades Continue reading "Could This Be Charlie Kirk’s Dumbest Tweet Yet?"

Teachers Upset After YouTube Deletes Nazi History Videos Amid Hate Speech Purge

YouTube recently updated their hate speech policies in an attempt to remove white extremist content from their platform, but some teachers are protesting the change after the removal of educational videos on Nazi history and World War II. A number of prominent educational and news YouTube channels that post content that may be disturbing to some saw numerous videos taken down — like historical footage of Hitler’s “Triumph of the Will” march — or demonetized after the video-sharing platform announced the change on Wednesday. Many of the clips on YouTube that delve into these subjects aim to educate viewers while covering fringe ideas in a critical light — and even many of those got taken down. It’s unclear how wide-sweeping this change is, but thousands of YouTube channels are expected to be removed from the site. However, The Guardian reports that numerous teachers are taking issue with the crackdown due Continue reading "Teachers Upset After YouTube Deletes Nazi History Videos Amid Hate Speech Purge"

Russia Planning Their Own Version of HBO’s Chernobyl That Blames Catastrophe on CIA

In response to the massively successful new HBO miniseries Chernobyl, a Russian TV broadcaster is planning to make a show supposedly correcting the record by promoting a wild conspiracy that blames the nuclear incident on the CIA. “One theory holds that Americans had infiltrated the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and many historians do not deny that, on the day of the explosion, an agent of the enemy’s intelligence services was present at the station,” the Russian show’s director Alexei Muradov told the Moscow Times — a theory that the non-state funded paper said was crafted by “fringe conspiracy theorists.” The Moscow Times went on to say that the HBO series “is a source of shame that the pro-Kremlin media apparently cannot live down,” since an American station is receiving praise for covering their country’s tragedy — which the Russian government has long tried to cover up. Specifically, the Continue reading "Russia Planning Their Own Version of HBO’s Chernobyl That Blames Catastrophe on CIA"

CNN obtained and aired exclusive declassified footage today of a U.S. ship nearly colliding into a Russian warship as it approached the Navy vessel at high speeds in the Pacific ocean. The video, which was captured while both ships were in the East China Sea at an unspecified date, shows the Russian vessel coming within 50-1oo feet of the U.S. warship, which the Kremlin is blaming on America, as they to claim to have had the right away during the incident. The U.S. Navy maintains that the near-collision was Russia’s fault, as they say, the warship made an unsafe approach toward them while they were attempting to land a helicopter on the deck of the vessel. “It is pretty darn chilling to look how close that Russian warship is coming to the deck of this U.S. ship,” observed CNN’s Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr. “U.S. sailors Continue reading "WATCH: Shocking Video Shows Russian Warship Nearly Colliding With U.S. Navy Vessel"

Twitter is having a field day over the news that the crazed fan who shoved Toronto Raptors star Kyle Lowry last night is actually billionaire Mark Stevens, a Golden State Warriors minority owner and high profile tech investor. Stevens, who was sitting courtside for Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Oakland Wednesday night, placed his hands on Lowry after the player dove into the crowd for a ball and landed next to his seat. Lowry shouted at Stevens, who responded by cussing out the player, then complained to officials about the partial owner’s misconduct, resulting in the billionaire’s ejection during the fourth quarter — minutes before the Raptors handed his team their second loss of the Finals. The Warriors have since released a statement announcing Stevens, who has yet to apologize or comment publicly, will not attend additional games at Oracle Arena during the series, despite the next Continue reading "Twitter Rips Partial Warriors Owner Who Shoved Kyle Lowry: ‘Never Attend Another NBA Game’"

NBA Fan Ejected For Shoving Toronto’s Kyle Lowry is Partial Owner of Warriors

The courtside fan who shoved Toronto Raptors star Kyle Lowry in game three of the NBA Finals is reportedly a partial owner of the Golden State Warriors and a notable venture capitalist, according to Axios. The fan in question, Silicon Valley billionaire Mark Stevens, has owned a stake in the Warriors since 2013. He was ejected early in the fourth quarter during the Warriors’ home game last night after getting into a physical altercation with Lowry, who dove into the crowd to go for a loose ball — a very common disturbance that courtside NBA fans are expected to look out for. While chasing the ball, Lowry landed in one fan’s lap and was given a pat on the back by another, but he also bumped into Stevens, who can be seen wearing a blue Warriors team polo and briefly shoving the star player away from his seat. After Continue reading "NBA Fan Ejected For Shoving Toronto’s Kyle Lowry is Partial Owner of Warriors"

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) declined to respond to President Donald Trump’s comments while at today’s 75th D-Day commemoration ceremony in Normandy, France, saying instead that — as a matter of principle — she won’t go back and forth with the president while overseas. “I don’t talk about the president while I’m out of the country,” said Pelosi after CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta asked her about Trump’s remarks on tariffs. “That’s my principle.” The president does not share the same principles, as he appeared on Fox News host Laura Ingraham’s show this morning — an interview that delayed Trump’s D-Day ceremony with French President Emmanuel Macron by 15 minutes — where he Continue reading "Pelosi Declines to Talk Trump at D-Day Ceremony: ‘I Don’t Talk About the President’ While Overseas"

CNN’s John Berman Calls Out Trump For Laura Ingraham Interview: She Just ‘Defended an Anti-Semite’

CNN’s John Berman called out President Donald Trump for sitting down with Fox News host Laura Ingraham this morning, as she recently used her show to champion white supremacist Paul Nehlen after he was banned from social media for sharing violent, racist content. Berman made the remarks while discussing Trump postponing ceremonies commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day Thursday today by 15 minutes so he could appear on Ingraham’s show. “A lot of that politics led right up until the moment the president gave his speech because not minutes before he walked on that stage he sat down for an interview with Laura Ingraham, who in the last few weeks on her show has defended an antisemite, Paul Nehlen, who spouts anti-Semitic views and white supremacist views all the time,” Berman observed. The CNN host was referencing an Ingraham Angle segment from last week in which the host listed Nehlen, Continue reading "CNN’s John Berman Calls Out Trump For Laura Ingraham Interview: She Just ‘Defended an Anti-Semite’"

The Washington Post Discovers More Plagiarism in Biden Campaign’s Education Platform

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s plagiarism scandals continued this week, as the Washington Post discovered his campaign’s public education platform cribbed an entire sentence from an education policy publication. Biden, who dropped out of a presidential race in 1987 after being caught plagiarizing speeches, is facing fresh allegations of content theft for two of his policy platforms. A policy sheet released on May 28 titled, “Plan For Education, Students, and Our Future,” details his plan for American students in middle school and high school. The policy rollout reads:
“President Biden will provide every middle and high school student a path to a successful career. Ensure middle and high schools prepare students for good jobs. Students who participate in high-quality career and technical education are more likely to graduate, earn industry credentials, enroll in college, and have higher rates of employment and higher earnings.”
The Post found that an entire Continue reading "The Washington Post Discovers More Plagiarism in Biden Campaign’s Education Platform"
