With Republicans in the House of Representatives are speaking out and taking action against Rep. Steve King (R-IA), MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace claimed there is no “strain of racism” among people on the left side of politics. “I think what’s so upsetting about the Steve King thing is not even so much what he has said as odious as it is, but it gives a window into the voters of the Republican Party and the people who have supported him and condoned this all this time,” guest Rick Stengel said. “Let’s parse that line. ‘Like, what’s wrong? When did saying white nationalism or white supremacy become a bad word?’ I mean, the problem is there are voters who are thinking that, too, like, what is wrong with that? And that’s the problem Continue reading "MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace: ‘There Isn’t a Strain of Racism on the Left’"

As questions continue to mount over what was discussed in President Donald Trump’s private meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, The New York Times reports after one such meeting, he called a Times reporter to say the Russians were “falsely accused” of meddling in the 2016 election. The call came after Trump had met Putin for the first time in Hamburg, Germany, for the G-20 summit:
“The day after the two meetings, as Mr. Trump was on Air Force One taking off from Germany heading back to Washington, he telephoned a Times reporter and argued that the Russians were falsely accused of election interference. While he insisted most of the conversation be off the record, he later repeated a few things in public in little-noticed asides. “He said that he raised the election hacking three times and that Mr. Putin denied involvement. But he said Mr. Putin also Continue reading "NY Times: Trump Called Times Reporter to Argue Russians ‘Falsely Accused’ of Election Interference"

After the first half of Attorney General nominee William Barr’s confirmation hearing, CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin praised his performance during the hearing, saying he came across as a “very impressive witness.” Barr’s confirmation is virtually guaranteed since there are 53 Republican senators. Host John King noted Barr had “helped himself this morning, without a doubt.” “I thought he was a very impressive witness. He was plain spoken, he didn’t, you know, try to hedge in any obvious way,” Toobin said. Toobin said the main sticking point for some more aggressive Democrats would be the public release of Robert Mueller’s report, to which Barr said he will make it available as much as he can. “If you trust Barr and if you know Barr, and some of the senior Democrats do know him, it’ll be interesting to see how they vote. Because they like him, they respect him, they know Continue reading "CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin Praises Barr’s Performance During Hearing: A ‘Very Impressive Witness’"

While speaking with her panel about Rep. Steve King’s latest controversial comments, MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle floated the baseless claim that President Donald Trump is blackmailing Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). “Before Don got elected, Lindsey Graham called Donald Trump a racist, xenophobic bigot. Those are Lindsey Graham’s words,” former Republican Congressman David Jolly said. “I doubt Lindsey Graham could tell you Donald Trump has had a change of heart in the last 24 months, I bet the change of heart has been with Lindsey Graham, not the president.” “Or it could be that Donald Trump or somebody knows something pretty extreme about Lindsey Graham,” Ruhle chimed in. “We’re gonna have to leave it there.” Graham has become a staunch ally in the Senate to Trump since he has been in office, with the most notable being his strong defense of then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) made fun of President Donald Trump’s claims that Democrats have been calling him offering their support to help end the partial government shutdown on Tuesday during her appearance on CNN. “No, I think maybe in his dreams he’s gotten phone calls from Democrats,” Spier told CNN’s John Berman. “There’s not a Democrat that I’m aware of, in the House, that would have called the President to say, ‘I want to work with you and I want this wall to go up.’ There’s not a Democrat that wants to see five billion dollars wasted.” Spier said there is technology available for the U.S. to use on the U.S.-Mexico border that would work “much better” to help stop illegal immigration than a wall or steel slats. When asked by Berman if she thinks Trump is making up his claim, Spier said she thinks he “makes Continue reading "Rep. Speaking with CNN’s Alisyn Camerota over President Donald Trump’s meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin with only his interpreter present, guest Ken Starr said it is possible to “get all the facts” about the meetings. Camerota, however, was not optimistic. “You want to know the facts. How will you know the facts? There was an interpreter in a couple of these meeting and the president confiscated that interpreter’s notes and swore that interpreter to secrecy, so wouldn’t that arouse your suspicion,” she asked. “That’s a good place to start. You gather the facts. Eventually, if you need — here’s the key and goes to what I think Bill Barr is going to be facing today…are you going to, as an investigator and for Bill Barr to allow the investigator to get to the bottom of things. If this is a legitimate question, you go to the interpret,  and you take the Continue reading "Alisyn Camerota Clashes With Ken Starr: How Can You Find Facts on Trump Putin Meetings Without Investigating?"

It’s only been a week since the newly sworn-in congressional freshmen have been in office, but two already stand out: Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). The pair have already made big waves in their respective camps and have built a lot of social media clout. While social media postings are good for their personal standing, actually leading from the front is what voters want from politicians. One way people in Congress have done so is by asking for their pay to be withheld while the partial government shutdown drags on. On Thursday, Crenshaw joined the growing number of Republicans and Democrats to request their pay to be withheld.

Speaking with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Thursday night, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) accused President Donald Trump of wanting a version of the United States that does not have any people of color in it. “Do you think that a bill can be made or do you think this is fundamentally existential and cannot be made,” Hayes asked. “It is fundamentally existential and if he continues to insist on a wall—you just said it so beautifully, Chris; this has never been about a wall. He actually could have gotten funding a couple of years ago, or a year ago, for a wall,” Jayapal replied. “It was part of a deal that was proposed, not all of us agreed with that deal but it was proposed to him and he turned it down because his ultimate goal is, as you said, to make America ‘pure in the sense of not having Continue reading "Rep. Outgoing California Governor Jerry Brown (D) said it would be wrong to blame the state’s sanctuary status for the murder of police officer Ronil Singh during his exit interview with ABC 10. “The Stanislaus County sheriff has come out, you know, pretty critical of the sanctuary state policies that you signed into law in 2017. What do you make of that criticism and do you think that perhaps a side effect of those laws is that more bad actors might fall through the cracks,” Liz Kreutz asked Brown. “No I don’t think so,” Brown replied, saying he knows the sheriff and the case of Singh’s murder being a tragedy, “but in this case the individual had been arrested and actually convicted twice of driving under the influence and there was a warrant out for his arrest and no one picked him up.” Brown said the arrested suspect, Gustavo Perez Arriaga Continue reading "Outgoing Gov. In a video posted on his video account, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) responded to a recent speech made by Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), where he compared President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler and also went after the Americans who voted for Trump. “The Jewish people understand tyranny,” Johnson said. “Charismatic and a good public speaker, deceptive, and cunning, Adolf Hitler rose to power to lead Germany in 1932 after democratic elections. He rode a wave of nationalism and anti-Semitism to power. Replace anti-Semitism with ‘all Latinos crossing our borders are rapists, drug dealers, and murderers,’ does that sound familiar?” He added who Trump voters are “old”, “less educated”, and dying early from alcoholism. After playing part of the speech, Crenshaw said Trump may be a lot of things, but he is not a dictator that is trying to wipe entire races out of existence. “[Trump] didn’t killed millions of people. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) issued something of an apology to Donald Trump Jr. in her interview with 60 Minutes that aired Sunday night, over the spat they had on on social media in December. In a tweet last month, Ocasio-Cortez told Trump Jr. to keep posting memes about her because “it’s definitely a ‘very, very large brain’ idea to troll a member of a body that will have subpoena power in a month.” After a backlash, she followed up with another tweet: “For the GOP crying that this is Continue reading "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Apologizes to Don Jr. For Threatening Him With Subpoena Power"

During his press conference with reporters in the White House Rose Garden, NBC’s Hallie Jackson asked President Donald Trump if he is proud of the partial government shutdown that he said he would take for credit last year. “Are you still proud to own this shutdown,” she asked. “Well, you know, I appreciate the way you say that, but once — I’m very proud of doing what I’m doing,” Trump replied. “I don’t call it a shutdown. I call it doing what you have to do for the benefit and for the safety of our country. When [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said, ‘You don’t have the votes in Congress,’ I will tell you what I was proud of, I was never more proud of my Republican Party and those congressmen and women when they saw that and they got together and they voted 217 to 185 and it wasn’t Continue reading "NBC’s Hallie Jackson Confronts Trump: ‘Are You Still Proud of the Shutdown?’"

After a two hour meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told reporters Trump did not want to make a deal to reopen the government and said he was willing to keep it closed for a very long time. “The bottom line is very simple. We made a plea to the president, once again, ‘Don’t hold millions of Americans, hundreds of thousands of workers, hostage. Open up the government, and let’s continue the discussions,'” Schumer said outside the West Wing. “We told the president, we need the government open,” he continued. “He resisted. In fact, he said he’d keep the government closed for a very long period of time, months or even years. The discussion then, we discussed a bunch of issues, as the leader said, that were somewhat contentious. We will continue discussing, of course. But, it’s very hard Continue reading "Chuck Schumer: Trump Said He Will Keep the Government Shut Down For ‘Years’"

Chris Wallace: If Pelosi Caves On Wall Funding ‘She Would Probably Be Thrown Out’ as Speaker

In advance of the White House meeting Friday afternoon between President Donald Trump and Democratic lawmakers, Fox News’ Chris Wallace believes neither side has any incentive to make a deal over funding for a border wall on the southern border and end the partial government shutdown. According to Wallace, because Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was just voted into her new leadership position, if she were to include border wall funding to reopen the government, she would be thrown out by the Democrats. “They are under no political pressure to make a deal. If Nancy Pelosi were to go into that meeting and come out and say, ‘I’ve agreed to give the president funding for the wall,’ she would probably be thrown out as speaker,” Wallace said .”Her Democratic caucus, this is an article of faith now for the vast majority of them.” Wallace said the same Continue reading "Chris Wallace: If Pelosi Caves On Wall Funding ‘She Would Probably Be Thrown Out’ as Speaker"

On Friday, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said he disagreed with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) telling her supporters they will impeach President Donald Trump, who instead used motherfucker, after she was sworn into the new Congress on Thursday. “No, I don’t really like that kind of language, but more to the point I disagree with what she said,” Nadler told CNN Friday morning. “It is too early to talk about that intelligently.” Nadler said more time is needed with Robert Mueller’s special counsel and the Congress’ own investigations so they can get more evidence of the President’s wrongdoings. “We have to get the facts and we’ll see where the facts lead, maybe that will lead to impeachment, maybe it won’t. But it’s much too early and we don’t have all of the facts and must have the facts.” he continued. Nadler added he believes the process of Continue reading "Rep. Nadler: I Disagree With Rep. William Arkin, an Army veteran and longtime NBC contributor, quit the network with a stunning exit letter in which he said he has grown frustrated at the direction the network is heading — and heavily criticized President Donald Trump. In the letter, obtained by CNN, Arkin says he is “completely out of synch with the network” because he is not “a day-to-day reporter” and is not “interested in the Trump circus.” The analyst accused NBC of losing “its own verve, proxies of boring moderation and conventional wisdom.” Because of the never ending cycle of news that is only bolstered with social media, Arkin said he and fellow journalists “suffer from a really bad case of not being able to ever take a breath” and the problem will not go away once Trump is no longer in office. The longtime contributor said he was alarmed by how the media instinctually Continue reading "NBC Contributor Quits With Scathing Exit Letter on Trump: I’m ‘Completely Out of Synch With the Network’"

On Wednesday, political strategist Rick Wilson — a Republican who has emerged as a biting critic of President Donald Trump — gave his version of how the man spends his mornings in the White House during a panel on CNN Tonight. Wilson said Democrats on the House of Representative side will not give in to Trump’s demand for border wall funding, no matter what he does. “No matter how many times Donald Trump tweets, no matter how much he spends his morning ‘executive time’ hoovering up rails of Adderall and rage tweeting, it’s not going to change where Pelosi is,” he said. “So as long as she holds the line, this thing is gonna go on until Trump feels the pain level rise.” According to Wilson, it would be the Democrats on the Senate side that would cave in to Trump. “Shutdowns never work out politically for anybody,” he Continue reading "Rick Wilson: Trump Spends His Mornings ‘Hoovering Up Rails of Adderall and Rage Tweeting’"

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) said President Donald Trump’s rise to power is similar to how Adolf Hitler became the infamous German dictator, at an event hosted by the Atlanta NAACP. He also went after Trump voters for being “old”, “less educated”, and dying early from alcoholism. “Americans elected an authoritarian, an anti-immigrant, racist strongman to the nation’s highest office,” Johnson said in his speech. “Donald Trump and his ‘Make America Great Again’ followers who want to return American back to a time where white men and white privilege were unchallenged, and where minorities and women were in their place.” Johnson’s comments were met with agreement from the audience. “The Jewish people understand tyranny,” he continued. “Charismatic and a good public speaker, deceptive, and cunning, Adolf Hitler rose to power to lead Germany in 1932 after democratic elections. Giving credence to reports that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) refused to listen to a U.S.-Mexico border briefing by Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, she also voiced her disappointment in the Democrats’ conduct during a meeting at the White House. The meeting was held with leaders from both side of the aisle to see if a deal can be made to end the partial government shutdown. Nielsen said the Democrats in attendance did not want to “hear about criminal aliens, drug smugglers, smuggled & abused children or violent caravans trying to breach the border wall.”

During her interview with Fox & Friends Thursday morning, Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the President Donald Trump, explained why he had a large printout of the “Sanctions Are Coming” picture, that was stylized after T.V. show Game of Thrones, during his first Cabinet meeting of 2019. Trump had first posted the image on his Twitter account in November: “Oh that’s just the President saying sanctions are coming November 4th,” Conway said. “I think the President speaking for 95 minutes and holding forth on any number of issues shows his transparency and shows he’s always willing to have the press in the room.” Conway said she talked to Trump after the meeting and said they should invite the press back to cover another meeting. “And that’s why he wants people like Mitt Romney to be a Continue reading "Watch Kellyanne Conway Try to Explain Why There Was a Giant Meme Poster at Trump’s Cabinet Meeting"
