To honor their fallen teammate, the entire Angels team wore his number, 45, on their jerseys Friday night. And Skaggs’ mother, Debbie, threw out the first pitch before the game. Here was the last out of the no-hitter. After wining the incredibly emotional game, the Angels all returned to the pitcher’s mound, upon which they laid all their #45 jersey in honor of Skaggs.

Conservative Pundits Skewer Paul Ryan’s Political Cowardice: ‘He Made That Faustian Bargain’ With Trump’

Two ‘Never Trump’ Republican pundits, Charlies Sykes and Jennifer Rubin, accused former House Speaker Paul Ryan of political cowardice, for his decision to publicly criticize President Donald Trump now, only after having retired from Congress. “When push came to shove, he made that Faustian bargain that he was going to keep his mouth shut and keep his head down and go along with Donald Trump,” Sykes told guest host Ali Velshi on MSNBC’s Last Word. “Maybe he simply thought it was worth it to make that bargain in order to get the tax cuts. The reality is his legacy is badly tarnished.” The MSNBC panel was reacting to scathing comments about Trump that Ryan reportedly made to conservative author Tim Alberta, for the latter’s new book American Carnage: Inside the Republican Civil War and the Rise of President Trump. In the book Ryan is quoted expressing shock at Continue reading "Conservative Pundits Skewer Paul Ryan’s Political Cowardice: ‘He Made That Faustian Bargain’ With Trump’"

UPDATE: The New Republic Takes Down Bizarre Hit Piece on Pete Buttigieg, Editor’s Note Apologizes for ‘Inappropriate and Invasive Content’

Pete Buttigieg Just hours after The New Republic posted a bizarre, acerbic, and definitely not satirical essay by gay novelist and critic Dale Peck about 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, who is also gay, the magazine pulled down the piece and posted a short Editor’s Note in its place.
Dale Peck’s post “My Mayor Pete Problem” has been removed from the site, in response to criticism of the piece’s inappropriate and invasive content. We regret its publication.
Almost immediately after the essay’s publication, criticism began pouring in on social media, decrying its vicious and petty tone. One example: throughout the piece, Peck routinely belittled Buttigieg by referring to him as “Mary Pete.” When CNN media reporter Brian Stelter reached out to TNR for comment about the piece and the deluge of angry responses to it, the magazine’s editor, Chris Lehmann, tried to excuse the post’s incendiary tone by saying it Continue reading "UPDATE: The New Republic Takes Down Bizarre Hit Piece on Pete Buttigieg, Editor’s Note Apologizes for ‘Inappropriate and Invasive Content’"

Chris Cuomo GOES OFF on Washington Dysfunction Over Border Detention Crisis: ‘Everybody is Lying to You!’

In his opening segment, CNN’s Chris Cuomo went off on a lengthy rant about Washington dysfunction over the border detention crisis, blasting both the Trump administration and Democrats in Congress as playing politics with the issue: “Everybody is lying to you…Everybody in this situation has waited too long.” Cuomo’s comments came in response to Vice President Mike Pence’s public tour of two border detention families in the Rio Grande Valley earlier in the day. After which, Pence gave a subdued response to the abhorrent conditions seen in one and repeatedly tried to duck accountability about the crisis with a CNN reporter while blaming Democrats. “I got to be honest about something with you, okay?” Cuomo began after airing a portion of the CNN interview with Pence. “I have respect for Mike Pence. I’ve dealt with him in the past. I believe he takes his faith very seriously. VP Pence Dodges When Confronted With Proof of Miserable Border Conditions by CNN Reporter: ‘I Can’t Account for That’

After a tour of a Texas Border Patrol station where hundreds of migrant men were seen tightly caged on a concrete floor without beds, Vice President Mike Pence shook off pointed questions by CNN reporter Pamela Brown about some of the miserable conditions at border detention facilities: “I can’t account for that.” Earlier in the day, Pence had toured both a family detention center in Donna, Texas, and another one in McAllen that housed young immigrant men. At the latter, reporters encountered nearly 400 men packed into a small space that lacked sufficient room for them all to lie down. They had no pillows or bedding of any kind except emergency blankets. Some of them told the press pool traveling with Pence they had been kept in these conditions for several weeks without the ability to bathe or shower. “This is tough stuff,” Pence said afterwards. “I was not Continue reading "VP Pence Dodges When Confronted With Proof of Miserable Border Conditions by CNN Reporter: ‘I Can’t Account for That’"

Federal prosecutors in the Manhattan US Attorney’s are unlikely to file any charges of campaign finance violation against executives in the Trump Organization, a new report finds. According to a CNN report, sources familiar with the investigation into President Donald Trump’s business, and any role it might have played in illegally funding payoffs by Trump’s personal attorney and fixer Michael Cohen, say the probe has been dormant for months and there is little chance it proceeds to indictments. “In January, one month after Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison, prosecutors requested interviews with executives at the company,” CNN reported. “But prosecutors never followed up on their initial request, people familiar with the matter said, and the interviews never took place.” The inquiry into the Trump Organization was a by-product of the investigation into Michael Cohen, and his illegal campaign-fund payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels Continue reading "CNN: Federal Prosecutors Unlikely to File Charges Against Trump Org Executives"

Donald Trump frustrated President Donald Trump, apparently stung by unflattering quotes from former Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan in a just released book, publicly lashed out at the ex-House Speaker in a series of vicious Tweets, saying Ryan had a “record of achievement that was atrocious,” “quit Congress because he didn’t know how to win,” and suffered from “poor leadership and bad timing.” Subtle, it was not.

Houston Police Chief Knocks Trump’s Family Deportation Raids: ‘We Should Be Chasing Crooks, Not Cooks’

On CNN, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo publicly came out against the ICE family deportation raids that the Trump administration announced will commence on Sunday: “Families belong together. …We should be chasing crooks, not cooks.” Houston is one of 10 cities across the country that will be targeted as part of ICE’s planned family deportation raids that President Donald Trump first announced last month. But Acevedo told CNN’s Don Lemon that these immigrant sweeps in his city won’t help improve public safety and are instead an affront to “Judeo-Christian values.” “Houston is a very welcoming city. The mayor welcomes everyone who is here to live responsibly and earn a living,” Acevedo said. “And we do work with ICE as it deals homeland security and going after real hard criminals. We’re just hopeful that we don’t create greater problems for society by separating families. Families belong together. They certainly Continue reading "Houston Police Chief Knocks Trump’s Family Deportation Raids: ‘We Should Be Chasing Crooks, Not Cooks’"

Kamala Harris Tells Rachel Maddow: Trump’s Mass Deportation Threats on Twitter ‘Intentionally Is Trying to Create Fear’

On MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris slammed President Donald Trump’s Twitter “proclamations” and said that when he threatens mass deportations on social media he “intentionally is trying to create fear” among immigrant children and families. Harris, who is enjoying a surge of support after her first 2020 Democratic debate performance, linked the president’s social media threats to a larger White House strategy to cultivate a nativist climate of fear through mass deportation raids, like those reportedly set to begin this weekend. Maddow also wondered if Trump’s bizarre press conference on Thursday, where he claimed victory on a census citizenship question that he in fact lost, was also part of this broader campaign to send an unmistakable signal to immigrants, regardless of legal or legislative roadblocks. “Latino and immigrant communities have received the message that the census will be part of Continue reading "Kamala Harris Tells Rachel Maddow: Trump’s Mass Deportation Threats on Twitter ‘Intentionally Is Trying to Create Fear’"

MSNBC Legal Analyst—Good News: Trump Caved on Census Question; Bad News: He’s ‘Goose-Stepping Toward a Constitutional Crisis’

On MSNBC’s Hardball, former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner offered up a good news/bad news assessment of President Donald Trump’s decision not to directly challenge the Supreme Court ruling that effectively banned adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census. “I do think that maybe the best news of the day is we’ve avoided a constitutional crisis. Maybe the worst news of the day is that we’ve avoided a constitutional crisis,” Kirschner said. “The reason I say that is because it does seem like President Trump, since the day he was inaugurated, has been marching towards, perhaps goose-stepping toward a constitutional crisis.” After an intense legal battle, which included a Supreme Court smackdown that called the Trump administration’s reasoning “contrived,” Trump announced on Thursday that he would no longer press the Commerce Department to include a question about citizenship on next year’s census. But he framed the executive action he Continue reading "MSNBC Legal Analyst—Good News: Trump Caved on Census Question; Bad News: He’s ‘Goose-Stepping Toward a Constitutional Crisis’"

FREAK SHOW: Seb Gorka, CNN’s Brian Karem Go Nose-to-Nose in Surreal Rose Garden Clash: ‘You’re a Punk!!!’

President Donald Trump’s social media summit in the White House Rose Garden quickly devolved into a trash-talking debacle upon its conclusion, when right-wing Salem radio host Sebastian Gorka — a former Trump White House aide — got in the face of CNN political analyst Brian Karem and screamed: “You’re a punk, not a journalist. You’re a punk!” The embarrassing melee, in a venue that normally hosts foreign heads of state and major policy announcements, was partially captured on video by New York Times White House correspondent Katie Rogers. At the beginning of the Rogers video, the famously short-fused Gorka suddenly reacts, claiming Karem threatened him and directly proceeds to the rope line flanking the event’s seating. However, another video of the event, taken by Townhall columnist Jim Hanson, shows Karem making a joke, saying that the summit participants are “a group of people eager for demonic possession.” Karem Continue reading "FREAK SHOW: Seb Gorka, CNN’s Brian Karem Go Nose-to-Nose in Surreal Rose Garden Clash: ‘You’re a Punk!!!’"

Jimmy Kimmel skewered the blatant hypocrisy of President Donald Trump’s Twitter outrage over left-wing activists’ calls for a boycott, pointing out the many times Trump has done the very same thing: “Yeah, what kind of wacko would call for a boycott?” Trump’s sudden distaste for boycotts arose after some liberals advocated sending a message to 90-year-old Bernie Marcus, the co-founder of Home Depot who recently announced that he was a Trump 2020 donor. Decrying “Radical Left Democrats,” the president sent a series of Tweets on Tuesday that bemoaned how these “vicious and totally crazed” people are “using ‘Commerce’ to hurt their ‘Enemy.'”

Drew Bress Gives Big Shout-out to USWNT at ESPYs At the 2019 ESPY awards, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees gave a special shout-out to the “inspiring” US women’s soccer team, praising “the way that you represent our country.” Brees’ recognition of the team came during his acceptance speech for the Best Record-Breaking Performance, which he won for becoming the NFL’s new all-time leader in passing yards during the 2018 season. After accepting the award, Brees singled out basketball phenom Zion Williamson as well as NFL superstars like Saquon Barkley, Odell Beckham, and 2019 NFL MVP Pat Mahomes II. But he saved his last — and longest — shout-out for the new Women’s World Cup champions. “How about the US women’s national team,” Brees said, eliciting Continue reading "QB Drew Brees Praises US Women’s Soccer Team at ESPYs: ‘Inspiring…the Way That You Represent Our Country’"

Fox News Contributor: ‘You Have to Wonder’ if AOC Is Working for Terrorists, Sex Traffickers and Drug Cartels

On The Story with Martha McCallum, Fox News contributor Rachel Campos-Duffy blasted Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s call for the abolition of the Department of Homeland Security and, citing numerous translation threats, tried to equate the idea of shutting down DHS with supporting those criminal elements it protects against. “We’re looking at someone who basically wants to give you the wish list for terrorists, the wish lists for criminal cartels and sex traffickers,” Campos-Duffy said. “You have to wonder is she working for them or the American people?” Speaking with fellow panelist Juan Williams and McCallum, Campos-Duffy dismissed the many concerns conservative had back in 2002 about creating a vast new federal agency in response to the 9/11 attacks. “That is not the concern that AOC has,” Campos-Duffy said, dismissively. “AOC likes big federal agencies, the bigger the better. Her concern is with the vision of DHS. She doesn’t want Continue reading "Fox News Contributor: ‘You Have to Wonder’ if AOC Is Working for Terrorists, Sex Traffickers and Drug Cartels"

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Fires Back at Speaker Nancy Pelosi The ongoing strains between the House Democrats’ newest, most progressive members and the party’s senior leadership came into view once again, as outspoken Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez publicly fired back at a not-so-subtle dressing down she and her left-wing colleagues received from Speaker Nancy Pelosi: “It got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful.” According to a new Washington Post article, Ocasio-Cortez and three of her House allies, Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) increasingly feel isolated by the party caucus leaders. This was again the case on Wednesday when Pelosi warned her fellow Democrats, in a closed-door meeting, not to criticize their Congressional colleagues in public. “You got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just okay,” Pelosi reportedly told her caucus. Though the Continue reading "AOC Fires Back at Pelosi: Her ‘Explicit Singling Out of Newly-Elected Women of Color’ Was ‘Outright Disrespectful’"

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson returned fire in the ongoing clash between himself and Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, opening his show with an extended attack on the Congresswoman, bashing her as a “grievance monger” who “hates” the country: “Omar isn’t disappointed in America, she is enraged by it.” Carlson’s latest salvo comes after Omar tabled the Fox News host a “racist fool” after he went on a long xenophobic diatribe last night on his show that cited the Minnesota Congresswoman as a “living fire alarm” about the dangers of immigration. Omar went on to urge her followers to boycott his show’s advertisers. After recounting Rep. Omar’s perilous journey to the United States as a Somali immigrant and how her family was successfully granted asylum, Carlson said: “Ilhan Omar has a lot to be grateful for, but she isn’t not at all. After everything America has done for Omar and her Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Goes After Rep. Omar in Wild, 22-Minute Show Opener: She’s ‘Trying to Take This Show Off the Air’"

Amy McGrath Republican Senator Mitch McConnell’s Democratic challenger, Amy McGrath, reversed course on whether she would’ve voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh last fall. But then after bipartisan mockery of her flip-flop, she came back around to her original position just hours later. In an interview with the Louisville Courier-Journal, McGrath initially changed her position from just one year ago, when she publicly opposed his confirmation while running for a Kentucky House seat. However, in her new reasoning McGrath said she believed the account of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who testified before Congress that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school. “Yeah, I think [Blasey Ford’s account] is credible. I think this is — I think many Republicans thought it was credible,” McGrath told the Courier-Journal

“That wasn’t disqualifying then?” asked the reporter.

Well, I mean I think, again, I think it’s credible but given the amount of time that lapsed
