Chris Wallace Disgraced Himself by Trying to Silence Kirsten Gillibrand, Yet She Persisted

Chris Wallace, Fox News’ most respected journalist, disgraced himself by trying to silence New York Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand during a town hall event, but she persisted with her 100 percent factual criticism of Fox News. It may sound like faint praise to call Wallace Fox News’ most respected journalist, considering the remaining available pool consists of Shep Smith and John Roberts, (Fox News points to the likes of Bret Baier and Martha McCallum as well) but Wallace has also distinguished himself among his non-Fox colleagues. Along with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Wallace outclasses the field of Sunday show hosts by asking tough questions of most every guest, hitting them with incisive and persistent followups, and most importantly, preparing himself for many of those interviews with a deep knowledge of the facts. Wallace has his problems, too, but he seems to have Continue reading "Chris Wallace Disgraced Himself by Trying to Silence Kirsten Gillibrand, Yet She Persisted"

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) elaborated on the moment she sat next to Sen. John McCain at President Donald Trump’s inaugural speech and, after being asked by Kimmel, said that the Arizona senator did not compare the president’s rhetoric to that of Adolf Hitler. “Well, Trump’s got to be flattered about that,” Kimmel joked in response. “What about Stalin? Genghis Khan?” “No. I think the point of the story was that John McCain was a student of history,” Klobuchar added. “And so he knew what was coming. He knew these cries for isolationism, what that meant if we don’t stand with our allies, what that meant for America’s standing in the world. And that’s what he was doing. He said things similar to this publicly as well.” Klobuchar set off a media firestorm this past weekend at a campaign Continue reading "Low Bar? Minnesota Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar‘s campaign is not apologizing to Meghan McCain for Klobuchar’s remarks about the late Senator John McCain, instead expressing “deep respect” for the McCain family and noting Klobuchar’s defenses of McCain against Trump’s relentless attacks. At a campaign event in Iowa on Saturday, Klobuchar told the crowd that at Trump’s inauguration, “I sat on that stage between Bernie and John McCain, and John McCain kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation.”

On Monday, Meghan McCain — who is John McCain’s daughterscolded Klobuchar over the remarks, asking Klobuchar to “please be respectful to all of us and leave my fathers legacy and memory out of presidential politics.” CNN is reporting that the Klobuchar campaign, in a statement, expressed “deep Continue reading "Klobuchar Camp Not Apologizing to Meghan McCain: Senator ‘Has Defended’ John McCain Against Trump Attacks"

The View co-host Meghan McCain called out presidential hopeful Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) for claiming her father recited the names of dictators during President Donald Trump‘s inauguration. “On behalf of the entire McCain family – @amyklobuchar please be respectful to all of us and leave my fathers legacy and memory out of presidential politics,” late GOP Sen. John McCain‘s daughter wrote on Twitter today after Klobuchar celebrated the Memorial Day weekend by sharing the anti-Trump story with a crowd in Iowa. “John McCain kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of what we were facing as a nation, he understood it,” Klobuchar said on Saturday. “He knew Continue reading "Meghan McCain Chastises Amy Klobuchar for Invoking Father to Hit Trump on Memorial Day"

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) takes a selfie with Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) (R) at U.S. Capitol on January 20, 2017 at Donald J. Trump inauguration ceremony. Democratic 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said on Saturday that the late John McCain recited names of dictators during President Donald Trump’s inauguration, comparing Trump to totalitarian leaders repeatedly. Klobuchar was speaking about the event during a campaign rally in Des Moines, Iowa. She recalled she sat next to the late Republican senator from Arizona and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for the inaugural address, HuffPost reported. Trump’s inaugural address struck an unusually bleak and ominous tone for a presidential inaugural address, with invocations to end what he called “American carnage.” “I sat on that stage between Bernie and John McCain, and John McCain kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation,” Klobuchar told rally-goers. “He understood it. He knew because he knew this man more than any of us did,” Continue reading "Amy Klobuchar Tells Crowd John McCain Compared Trump to Dictators WHILE Trump Was Being Inaugurated"

Amy Klobuchar Faces Down Fox News’ Chris Wallace for Asking if Democrats Too ‘Extreme’ on Abortion

Minnesota Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar pushed back hard at Fox News’ Chris Wallace when he repeatedly asked her if Democrats are too “extreme” on the issue of abortion. On this week’s edition of Fox News Sunday, Klobuchar told Wallace that if the Supreme Court were to overturn Roe v. Wade, she would see the right to abortion codified into federal law, and told him that “I don’t think the majority of Americans are where the republicans are on this issue right now.” “But, Senator, pro-life advocates are pushing back,” Wallace said, and asked Klobuchar about an ad from Restoration PAC that calls Democrats “the party of death, six democratic senators running for president, including you, who have opposed restrictions in the later stages of pregnancy.” “You talk about the extreme, as you called it, on one side, let me make the case, and you can Continue reading "Amy Klobuchar Faces Down Fox News’ Chris Wallace for Asking if Democrats Too ‘Extreme’ on Abortion"

Political commentator Ana Navarro says she believes the 2020 field of presidential contenders is “beginning to look like a clown car.” Speaking on The View Friday, Navarro says “I want a Democrat that can beat [President] Donald Trump, and it’s beginning to look like a clown car” to the applause of the audience. “You know, at some point they’re going to get serious. Running for president shouldn’t be able getting a cable gig or selling a book or ending up on Dancing with the Stars,” Navarro said. She then gestured to some laughing audience members and said “You guys laugh, but Rick Perry was on Dancing with the Stars.” Perry, the former GOP presidential candidate and the second contestant eliminated from the dance competition in 2016, is currently Secretary of the Department of Energy in the Trump administration. 2020 presidential candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) disagrees with Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) stance against participating in a Fox News town hall, but says he won’t be participating in one himself because Fox isn’t offering. “I would absolutely do a Fox town hall,” Swalwell told CNN on Wednesday, “but they told us we can’t have one which is a little bit confusing to us because they have given them to people who are polling at the same place as us.” Swalwell said the network did not say how it determined which candidates it offered town hall events to, adding, “I can only conclude that they are afraid to give me the opportunity.” A Fox spokesperson disputed this. Fox executives have said in the past that they intend to be more selective with town halls than CNN has been with the format. Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Amy Continue reading "Eric Swalwell Says He Wants a Fox News Town Hall, But Fox News Rejected Him"

Democratic 2020 hopeful Amy Klobuchar got some praise from MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Friday morning for her decision to do a Fox News Town Hall. “We were so glad you did a Fox News debate,”  Scarborough told Klobuchar on his show, adding that Democcats should not just preach “to the choir all the time.” He further lauded her willingness to branch out of coverage comfort zone. “It seems like Democrats have been uncomfortable going out and talking to people who may not agree with them 100% of the time,” Scarborough continued on. He then said that he loved the senator from Minnesota went on Fox News. “There are persuadables that watch Fox News,” he said. Klobuchar responded by saying reaching out across the aisle is the only way to govern. “I did it because that is how I have governed and how I have won my elections in a Continue reading "Joe Scarborough Credits Klobuchar for Town Hall: ‘There Are Persuadables That Watch Fox News’"

Presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) helped Fox News to a ratings win with a town hall event that led the night with 1.6 million total viewers. Klobuchar appeared at an hour-long forum hosted by Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum Wednesday night from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, and according to Nielsen ratings figures, won the cable news timeslot race in both total viewers and the advertiser-coverted adults 25-54 age group, with 235,000 viewers in the key demo. The forum was also tops in overall viewers for all of cable television. The performance of the event tracks with a previous Fox News town hall for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), which posted 2,554,000 viewers total and 489,000 viewers in the key 25-54 demographic. The Sanders forum was also moderated by Baier and MacCallum. Senator Amy Klobuchar did a town hall on Fox News tonight and was asked at one point about the #MeToo movement and her reactions to both Justice Brett Kavanaugh and her former fellow Minnesota senator Al Franken. Martha MacCallum questioned Klobuchar about her comment on Franken that “for some of these things, there should be due process, and I felt like this was one of them,” asking, “Why just for some of these situations?” “I think for all of these situation you’ve gotta have a process that works,” Klobuchar responded. “I did feel that there should be due process and I feel that everywhere.” MacCallum asked if she believes the #MeToo movement “has gone too far.” “You look at things on a case by case basis,” Klobuchar said. “I don’t think it’s gone too far because I think we still have harassment going on in the workplaces. Tapper Pushes Klobuchar: Are You Saying Trump WANTS Russia to Interfere in 2020?

The 2020 election is under fire in advance this week, with questions about whether the integrity of the vote will be well-guarded and even whether President Trump will honor the result having been raised by Democrats. On CNN’s State of the Union, host Jake Tapper asked 2020 hopeful Sen. Amy Klobuchar about interference, and whether Trump actively desires it. “Senator, you said on CNN this week, quote, we have another presidential election coming up and this president has every reason not to protect that election, unquote. What do you mean by that?” Tapper asked. “Are you suggesting that President Trump wants foreign election interference in 2020?” “First of all, we have ample evidence that he has not been responding to protect our election security. And you know what? Russia may have done — they didn’t use a tank, didn’t use a missile, but they used a computer Continue reading "Tapper Pushes Klobuchar: Are You Saying Trump WANTS Russia to Interfere in 2020?"

Jake Tapper Challenges Amy Klobuchar: ‘You’re Not Going to Give Trump ANY Credit’ for Record Unemployment?

Last week a new jobs report came out and revealed the lowest unemployment rate (3.6%) in nearly 50 years. Shortly thereafter, CNN’s Jake Tapper received accolades (especially from the right) for asking on air if President Donald Trump wasn’t getting enough credit for the economy. Tapper hit a similar note Sunday morning during an interview with Senator Amy Klobuchar, opening by noting to the 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful the “strong economic news on Friday” which he noted featured “unemployment at its lowest level in almost 50 years, wages grew faster than prices did.” He then asked if his guest gives President Trump the credit. Klobuchar demurred on the specific question, saying instead that she gives “our workers and businesses the credit,” adding “when you’re out there across the country, you see people working harder and harder every day, and this has meant that our businesses are strong and Continue reading "Jake Tapper Challenges Amy Klobuchar: ‘You’re Not Going to Give Trump ANY Credit’ for Record Unemployment?"

Klobuchar Grills Barr Hard With All of Mueller’s Receipts on Obstruction

Minnesota Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar gave Attorney General William Barr a thorough grilling on the ten episodes of obstruction contained in Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s report, during which Barr literally argued as one of Trump’s attorneys. During Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Klobuchar was the first of three 2020 hopefuls on the committee to question Barr, and began her remarks by scolding the AG for failing to divulge the letters that Mueller had sent complaining about the four-page summary that Barr released, but did not ask a question on the topic. Klobuchar did go in on Barr over his conclusions, in that summary, about the acts of potential obstruction that Mueller identified. Over the course of several minutes, Klobuchar confronted Barr with citations from the Mueller report, and Barr responded to each with his rationale for concluding that the particular act may not have been obstruction. Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden delivers remarks on receiving the lifetime achievement award during the National Minority Quality Forum on April 9, 2019 in Washington, DC. Former Vice President Joe Biden set the campaign season record for first day fundraising hauls when he brought in a whopping $6.3 million in the first 24 hours following his announcement. In fact, he met the fundraising minimums to qualify for the DNC debate stage just 12 hours into his campaign; some of the other candidates have yet to qualify, including Rep. Eric Swalwell. “We have some AMAZING news,” reads the opening to the campaign’s email to supporters sent on Friday announcing the totals. “Our campaign raised $6.3 million in its first 24 hours!! That’s more than any other presidential campaign so far!!” The email notes that “97% of online donations were under $200” and included “donations from all 50 states and US territories.” The average donation, they write, was $41. As The New York Times reports, the campaign states that 96,926 people donated to that Continue reading "Joe Biden’s First Day Fundraising Beats Some Dem Candidates’ First Quarter Numbers"

Trevor Noah on Amy Klobuchar’s Town Hall: She’s Like the Anti-Oprah. Everyone Look Under Your Seats, You Ain’t Getting Sh*t

After Monday’s marathon of CNN town halls with Democratic contenders for 2020, a lot of Tuesday’s political coverage was spent on the highlights from each, and particularly on Sen. Bernie Sanders advocating giving the Boston bomber a say in our government. On The Daily Show, host Trevor Noah covered that one, as well as the hottest spots from each of the other candidates. The funniest, though, was his take on Sen. Amy Klobuchar. The first moment Noah highlighted from Klobuchar was her taking the opposite position from Sen. Elizabeth Warren on government giveaways. “While Elizabeth Warren was proposing ways to give Americans almost everything, Amy Klobuchar was waiting to make sure that everyone came back down to earth,” he said, leading into the clip of Klobuchar saying she would love to give everyone in the audience a free college degree, but that she has to be realistic. “Ouch,” he Continue reading "Trevor Noah on Amy Klobuchar’s Town Hall: She’s Like the Anti-Oprah. CNN’s Night of 2020 Town Halls Scores in Key Demo, But Underwhelms in Total Viewers

Much to the credit of programming executives at CNN, Monday night was a remarkably informative evening that featured hour-long town halls featuring five Democratic presidential candidates. But as is often the case in cable news programming, smart and informative rarely translates to strong ratings. And that appears to be the case once again, as overnight ratings indicate that the five-hour slate of town halls was a dud in terms of overall viewers. According to Nielsen data, CNN finished third overall to its competitors Fox News and MSNBC on average. The network did pull off a rare feat, however: between the hours of 9 p.m. and midnight, it beat Fox News and MSNBC in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 demo. For the night, FNC delivered 2.26 million total viewers and 380,000 in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 demo; MSNBC delivered 1.81 million total viewers and 285,000 in the demo and CNN pulled Continue reading "CNN’s Night of 2020 Town Halls Scores in Key Demo, But Underwhelms in Total Viewers"

Biggest Winners From CNN’s Democratic Town Halls: Elizabeth Warren and the Boston Marathon Bomber

The biggest winners from CNN’s five hours of Democratic presidential town halls were Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, who delivered the most consistently substantive and engaging performance, and the Boston Marathon bomber, whose right to vote has now somehow become a boilerplate issue in the race. On Monday night, CNN hosted five town halls featuring the following candidates, in order of how I had ranked them going into the night: California Senator Kamala Harris, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, Warren, Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg. The night began with Klobuchar, whose overall performance was a lot like her answer on impeachment: sensible, well-stated, but not attention-getting. But Klobuchar’s lane, as a tough center-left pragmatist, will be much better suited to the debate stage. In this format, her best weapons remained in the holster. I believe the same is true of Continue reading "Biggest Winners From CNN’s Democratic Town Halls: Elizabeth Warren and the Boston Marathon Bomber"

Beto O’Rourke Whiffs When Students Ask For Specifics on Protecting Abortion Rights, Equal Rights Amendment

Former Texas Congressman and current Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke was asked for specifics on protecting abortion rights and his support for the Equal Rights Amendment, and while he said a lot of words in response, came up empty on the specifics. During a town hall event at The University of Virginia in Charlottesville Tuesday night, a student named AnnMarie asked O’Rourke for specific legislative solutions to state laws outlawing abortions as early as 5 or 6 weeks into pregnancy. “I believe there are now six states where it is illegal to get an abortion after a heartbeat is detected, which most women don’t even know they’re pregnant by that time,” she said, and asked “what your plans are to address that in a way that will actually result in legislation, or some form of action, so that that’s not an issue women will face?” O’Rourke replied by repeatedly Continue reading "Beto O’Rourke Whiffs When Students Ask For Specifics on Protecting Abortion Rights, Equal Rights Amendment"
