Joe Scarborough lit into Vice President Mike Pence for what he saw as “lying” to CNN’s Jake Tapper over “deplorable” conditions at border detention centers for children reported by a heart-wrenching story in this week’s New Yorker.
The article reports that the conditions of border detention centers holding young children are nearly uninhabitable, with children being denied basic needs like soap, toothbrushes and even a warm and safe place to sleep. Or as was described in the segment above, “7 and 8-year-olds simply being forced to take care of 5-month-olds so they don’t know, because no one else would soiled diapers, shirts covered with mucus.”
When confronted about these conditions by Tapper on Sunday’s CNN program State of the Union, VP Pence appeared to jovially dismiss the claims of government-sanctioned squalor as a result of congressional appropriations delays.
After airing the clip, a visibly shocked Scarborough replied:
Joe Scarborough responded to reports of the decision to scuttle retaliatory attacks after Iran downing an American drone by noting a curious pattern in President Donald Trump’s behavior: he “loves to insult, loves to bully and then pulls back.”
This particular Morning Joe segment opens with John Heilemann questioning what he sees as a lack of a cogent and well-informed foreign policy that plays in a catch-as-catch-can manner, or what he cleverly called an “ad-hocracy.”
Scarborough followed, and in a long and meandering question to frequent Morning Joe guest Eugene Robinson, Scarborough called out what he deemed to be something of a character flaw in the commander in chief, evidenced by Trump’s last-minute calling off of a military strike against Iran.
Noting what he deemed as an emerging “definite trend” Scarborough defined “the limits of Donald Trump’s approach which is to threaten, to insult, to bully and Continue reading "Scarborough Hits Trump Over Scuttled Iran Attack: ‘Loves To Insult, Loves To Bully, and Then Pulls Back’"
MSNBC contributor Noah Rothman stumbled into an awkward moment after he confused Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) for 2020 presidential candidate and his identical twin Julián Castro.
Rothman, a Commentary magazine editor, asked Joaquin Castro on Morning Joe about his stance on Iran relations discussed during a Fox News town hall (which was held with Julián Castro, not Joaquin and apparently unbeknownst to Rothman).
“Well, the first thing is, I have to correct you,” the lawmaker said. “The person who did the Fox News town hall was my brother, Julián, who is running for president. I’m here in the Congress.”
Rothman was clearly embarrassed and apologized.
“That is a truly awful confusion on my part. But I’m sure it’s not the first time this happened,” Rothman said. Castro was seemingly okay with the mixup, laughing while Rothman was apologizing.
Rothman later apologized again on Twitter.
A Mika-less episode of Morning Joe opened Thursday morning with Joe Scarborough doing the previously unthinkable: agreeing with cable news rival Sean Hannity over the Trump administration’s conflict with Iran.
Hannity interviewed President Donald Trump which aired Wednesday, and after the Fox News primetime host expressed real worry about the rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran, the commander in chief simply said: “don’t you worry about a thing.”
Morning Joe opened with that clip, after which Scarborough exclaimed: “breaking news: pigs fly!” He then admitted that he shares the same concerns as his ideological foe. “ I agreewith Sean Hannity.I really do.I mean, and anybody that’s seenwhat Iran’s done over the pastdecade, well, why don’t we justtake it back a notch to 1979?”
While this aired, Bob Marley’s Everything’s Gonna Be AlrightContinue reading "‘Breaking News: Pigs Fly!’ Joe Scarborough Admits to Agreeing With Sean Hannity"
Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough offered a passionate defense of former Vice President Joe Biden’s recent boasting of working civilly with Southern Senators who were also segregationist which started something of a rare bipartisan cable news firestorm in its wake.
Some background: during a New York fundraiser, Biden fondly recalled his earlier days in Congress in which he worked in a civil manner with Senators James O. Eastlandof Mississippi and Herman Talmadge of Georgia, who were in favor of segregation.
“I was in a caucus with James O. Eastland. He never called me boy, he always called me son,” Biden said. He later mentioned, “a guy like Herman Talmadge, one of the meanest guys I ever knew, you go down the list of all these guys.” Biden continued “well guess what? At least there was some civility. We got things done. We didn’t agree on much of Continue reading "Joe Scarborough Passionately Defends Joe Biden’s Segregationist Comments With FDR Comparison"
This morning on MSNBC, Congressman Jim Himes assured that Robert Muellerwould be subpoenaed, and he did so in the face of a mad-as-hell Joe Scarborough blowing up at the “high and mighty” Mueller.
Mueller indicated in his recent public remarks any testimony he gives would just focus on the substance of what he laid out in his report. Democrats have been calling for him to testify anyway.
As Himes was talking about the issue of getting Mueller to testify, Scarborough asked, “How much money did the investigation cost? I don’t mean to sound like a Trump supporter. How much did taxpayers pay him?”
He asked incredulously if Mueller thinks everyone’s going to read the report, saying, “Some people are not going to read that government document! I want to know why Robert Mueller thinks he’s above coming to Capitol Hill and testifying for Americans! It’s outrageous!”

A day after House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) warned that “time is running out” for Robert Mueller to agree to an appearance before Congress, Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) insisted that the former special counselwill be subpoenaed soon.
Himes made the comments during an MSNBC segment in which Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough had a particularly animated episode ranting and raving about Mueller’s reluctance to finish the job he was paid to do by appearing before Congress and discussing it.
“I want to know why Robert Mueller thinks he’s above coming to Capitol Hill and testifying for Americans? It’s outrageous!” Scarborough exclaimed. “I want to know something else, Jim. Why don’t you subpoena him? This is absolutely ridiculous.”
“Two things to say: Number one, it’s going to happen. He will get subpoenaed,” Himes replied. Look, we have a profound interest inside the intelligence committee in hearing Continue reading "‘It’s Gonna Happen’: Congressman Tells MSNBC That Robert Mueller Will Be Subpoenaed"
Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough likened President Donald Trump’s performance at Tuesday night’s campaign rally to the later-stage performance of Elvis Presley.
The Trump Campaign held a large rally in Orlando’s Amway Arena to ostensibly launch the commander in chief’s reelection efforts, and while it was presented as something unique, much of the rhetoric and stagecraft was very familiar to Trump supporters, who didn’t seem to be disappointed in the familiarity of the event.
Scarborough, not surprisingly, saw it in another way: Trump was playing his “greatest hits” in a half-hearted manner that reminded him of late-career, overweight and the drug-addled King of Rock and Roll.
“It’s Elvis in ‘77 sweating, trying to sing the old hits but his heart is just not in it,” Scarborough said, adding “They know what he’s going to sing before he sings it. They know all the words and the guy who was once Continue reading "Joe Scarborough Compares Trump’s Rally Performance to Fat Elvis: ‘His Heart is Just Not In It’"
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough argued on Tuesday that TV news networks should make an agreement to not give President Donald Trump any airtime if he live-tweets the upcoming Democratic primary debates.
The Morning Joe host floated the idea as his colleagues discussed a Wall Street Journal report that Trump’s advisers are trying to dissuade him — unsuccessfully, so far — from live-tweeting through the first debates next week.
“Can we all have an agreement — like all the networks that matter — nobody reports on his live tweets until the morning after,” Scarborough suggested. “He is doing it deliberately to do what we talk about all the time — draw attention away.”
Mika Brzezinski agreed that network executives will have to figure out how to account for Trump’s tweeting, though Sam Stein noted that the Journal “might as well report he will breathe during the debates.” Scarborough was still Continue reading "Joe Scarborough Argues TV Networks Should Not Cover Trump’s Live Tweeting of Dem Debates Until Next Morning"
Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough harshly criticized Mike Pompeo Monday morning the day after the Secretary of State called “ridiculous” a question asked by Fox News’ Chris Wallace about President Donald Trump’s “walking back” his previous comments on being open to accepting foreign intelligence on a political rival.
After airing the clip in which Wallace reminded his subject that “dating back to George Washington, it’s been said that foreign interference in our election is unacceptable,” Pompeo tersely offered “President Trump believes that, too. I have nothing more to add.”
A vexed Scarborough reacted “Who is Mike Pompeo to say that Chris Wallace asks a ridiculous question when he’s just stating the truth? What a joke. And what a disgrace for Mike Pompeo to be given all the opportunities he’s been given in life, to get the degrees, to be able to go to the best schools in the world Continue reading "Scarborough Calls Mike Pompeo ‘Disgrace’ and ‘Joke’: Made ‘A Fool of Himself’ In Chris Wallace Interview"
Morning Joe‘s debated whether President Donald Trump is “evil” or irrational and mentally unstable Friday morning.
Shortly after Joe Scarborough tore into Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for “lying through his teeth” to defend Trump, he spoke of how Mika Brzezinski reacted when she watched the president make some of his most recent, controversial comments.
“Mika was saying when he did that, she said, ‘This guy is so bad, and others say he’s so evil, he’s so evil.’ I said, ‘Well, yes, okay, I get what you’re saying,’ but wouldn’t a truly evil guy have answered the question to Lester Holt, ‘No, no, that’s not why?’ Wouldn’t a truly evil guy say to George Stephanopoulos, of course I would report it, in fact, I’ve hired three lawyers and they’re going to be scanning throughout the entire government, we’re going to have the toughest task Continue reading "Joe and Mika Debate Whether Trump Is ‘Evil’ or ‘Horrendous’ for Democracy"
Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough called out Senator Mitch McConnell Friday morning saying that the Senate the Majority Leader was “lying through his teeth” in his defense of President Donald Trump.
After playing a clip of McConnell’s recent appearance on The Laura Ingraham Show in which the senior senator from Kentucky dismissed criticism of Trump by saying “He gets picked at every day over every aspect of it but the fundamental point is they’re trying to keep the 2016 election alive and the investigation alive when the American people have heard enough.”
Coming out of that clip, Willie Geist first said “No, actually that’s not what anyone’s talking about right now,” into which Scarborough interjected, “that’s such a lie! Willie, he’s such a liar. I’m sorry, he’s just lying through his teeth.”
He then pointed out that, unlike President Trump, if a foreign agent like the Chinese were Continue reading "Joe Scarborough: Mitch McConnell is ‘Lying Through His Teeth’ In His Defense of Trump"
President Donald Trump falsely claimed that the Mueller Report stated that his campaign “rebuffed” Russian election interference during a press gaggle in the Oval Office Wednesday afternoon. Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough found this claim so absurd on its face, that he immediately and brutally mocked the false claim in a manner worthy of a Mediaite post.
Trump claimed that the Mueller Report disappointed his critics because it “said no collusion and no obstruction and no nothing,” before adding “it sad we actually rebuffed your friends from Russia…that we actually pushed them back, we rebuffed them.”
Scarborough could not contain his laughter before revealing to his co-host (and wife) Mika Brzezinski that he “actually scored the winning goal” in last night’s seventh game of the Stanley Cup. He also claimed to have won the Masters golf tournament in 1987, all the while point and laughing at Trump’s false claim.

Joe Scarborough went after Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao on Tuesday, citing a recent report on her actions as the latest example of swampiness from President Donald Trump’s administration.
The takedown came as Morning Joe discussed a Politico report saying Chao used her office to help her husband, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, expedite several projects he was interested in for political reasons. To this end, the report states that Chao directed staff to fast track $78 million in federal grants toward McConnell’s favored transportation and infrastructure projects.
As his colleagues dissected the news, Scarborough wondered how conservative media and talk radio hosts would feel if Democrats were reportedly engaged in this kind of conduct.
“This, in any other age, would be seen as corruption at the highest level,” Scarborough said.
New York Times reporter Nicholas Confessore followed up by noting that Politico’s piece comes amid separate reporting suggesting that Continue reading "Scarborough Rips ‘Swampy’ Elaine Chao For Funding Husband McConnell’s Pet Projects: ‘Corruption’ at ‘Highest Level’"
Joe Scarborough, an ardent critic of President Donald Trump, was impressed by Trump’s speech in France to commemorate D-Day.
Trump joined French President Emmanuel Macron in Normandy to honor veterans and recognize the 75th anniversary of the first U.S. battle to free France from Nazi control in World War II. Scarborough was glad that Trump “chose to have the discipline to stick to script” with his address, saying “let’s hope this moment continues.”
“[He] delivered what, again, I believe is the strongest speech of his presidency. There was one especially beautiful moment and I loved the thought because – any World War II documentary you see, any Vietnam documentary you see, when the interviewer starts talking about them being heroes, they will tear up and they will say ‘the heroes were the ones that never came back.’ Well, President Trump said that that’s what these Continue reading "Joe Scarborough Praises Trump’s D-Day Speech: ‘The Strongest Speech of His Presidency’"
Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough offered significant praise to Rep. Justin Amash Wednesday morning after the Michigan Republican representative hosted a town hall and explained his position in pursuing impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump after twice reading the Mueller Report.
Amash was the first Republican member of Congress to call out Trump’s alleged obstruction of justice charges, putting his own principles of acceptable behavior for the highest office and has repeatedly cited Trump’s actions explained in Volume II of the Mueller Report as evidence to pursue impeachment.
Scarborough praised Amash’s town hall, saying “You hold town hall meetings and explain to them. When you explain it to them, a remarkable thing happens. They listen. Those that were undecided support you, and those who were hostile to you either become undecided or they will say afterward, hey, you know, I disagreed with what you just said, but I really want Continue reading "Scarborough: Justin Amash’s Criticism Is What’s Been Missing Throughout Entire Trump Era"
Senator Lindsey Graham fired back Tuesday after MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough blasted him for selling his soul.
On Morning Joe, during a discussion of the late John McCain and a claim from Amy Klobuchar, John Heilemannraised the question of what happened to Graham in the past few years.
Scarborough said Graham made a cynical political calculation and “sold his political soul for, you know, 20 percentage points inside his own Republican Party.”
Graham spoke with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade and the host asked him to respond.
Graham said he still remembers how poorly McCain was treated in 2008 and again said he wants Trump to be “successful,” adding that he pushes back when he thinks he’s wrong.
The South Carolina senator said his constituents want him working with Trump and “cable chatter is just cable chatter.”
Graham praised Trump’s Continue reading "Lindsey Graham Hits Back at MSNBC Host Who Said He Sold His Soul: I Don’t Worry About ‘Pleasing Joe Scarborough’"
Joe Scarborough tore into President Donald Trump on Tuesday for endorsing the insults to Joe Biden‘s intelligence from North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
As Morning Joe reacted to Trump’s remarks from Japan over the last few days, Scarborough said it reminded him of the mass blowback the Dixie Chicks received in 2003 when the country music group criticized the George W. Bush administration while performing abroad. He spoke of how their public reputation was “shattered” before remarking that times have certainly changed since the president “is supported by a lot of those people who probably said ‘I’m not ever going to listen to Dixie chicks again.'”
“This is how far we’ve come,” Scarborough said. “We now have a president…who attacked an American vice president and an American president on foreign soil. That is something you do not do.”
Willie Geist followed up by noting that Trump didn’t Continue reading "Scarborough Hits Trump for Siding With Kim Jong Un Over Biden: ‘This is How Far We’ve Come’"
Morning Joe opened Friday’s show with a deep dive discussion about the shocking battle of mental acuity that occurred between President Donald Trump and Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday.
Co-host Joe Scarborough opined on the back and forth and proclaimed “The difference between Nancy and Donald, not even close.” He added “He knows he’s slipping and so now they’re…they’re doctoring videos, that the president is sending around doctored videos of the third-ranking constitutional officer of the United States of America. That’s where we are.”
Scarborough added “the people closest to him told us that they feared that he was in mental decline. People very close to him told us that he feared he was predementia, that he had changed. You watch Donald Trump in the late 1980s, even in the 90s, you watch him now, he is completely changed.”
After a failed meeting on infrastructure spending Wednesday, Speaker Continue reading "Joe Scarborough: People Very Close to Trump Told Us That They ‘Feared He Was Pre-Dementia’"
Joe Scarborough took personal shots at Donald Trump on Tuesday when he said that the president is just as phony and insubstantial as the Wizard of Oz.
The comments came as Morning Joe held a discussion about whether Trump’s support from Middle America, and whether the president has really lived up to his 2016 promises of economic rejuvenation. As Willie Geist noted how Trump supporters frequently overlook his “broken promises” and “personal failings,” Scarborough remarked that Evangelical leaders are “rank hypocrites” to keep looking the other way, even if Trump does give evangelical voters what they want.
Scarborough eventually said people around the country are “voting against their economic self-interest” by supporting Trump in spite of evidence that his agenda isn’t working as well promised.
“The question,” Scarborough said, “is will those voters discover that this billionaire, this plutocrat, is nothing more than the short, fat little man behind the Continue reading "Joe Scarborough Compares Trump to The Wizard of Oz: ‘Short, Fat Little Man Behind the Curtain’"
