CNN’s John Berman and his opening panel tonight were stunned by the optics of President Donald Trump‘s political remarks at Normandy cemetery. Trump has gotten a lot of criticism for his comments swiping at rivals with the cemetery in the background, including a dig at Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “Don’t just listen to what he said. Look. Look at where he said it. Look at what is all around him there,” Berman said. “Think about the magnitude of the sacrifice of those who are buried there, the sacrifice literally staring the president in the face. He knew it, and he did it anyway.” David Gergen said there is “something sacred about this place” and asked that while he gets why Trump was “ticked off with” Pelosi, “who was on his advance team or why did he allow that to happen?” “One possibility is he doesn’t care,” Berman suggested. CNN’s John Berman Calls Out Trump For Laura Ingraham Interview: She Just ‘Defended an Anti-Semite’

CNN’s John Berman called out President Donald Trump for sitting down with Fox News host Laura Ingraham this morning, as she recently used her show to champion white supremacist Paul Nehlen after he was banned from social media for sharing violent, racist content. Berman made the remarks while discussing Trump postponing ceremonies commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day Thursday today by 15 minutes so he could appear on Ingraham’s show. “A lot of that politics led right up until the moment the president gave his speech because not minutes before he walked on that stage he sat down for an interview with Laura Ingraham, who in the last few weeks on her show has defended an antisemite, Paul Nehlen, who spouts anti-Semitic views and white supremacist views all the time,” Berman observed. The CNN host was referencing an Ingraham Angle segment from last week in which the host listed Nehlen, Continue reading "CNN’s John Berman Calls Out Trump For Laura Ingraham Interview: She Just ‘Defended an Anti-Semite’"

CNN’s Camerota Defends Biden Over Plagiarism Charge: ‘Don’t You Go to the Experts…and Lift Some of Their Terminology?’

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota and John Berman ostensibly defended Joe Biden on Wednesday amid accusations that the former vice-president plagiarized multiple parts of his newly-announced climate change platform. As New Day held discussions on how the Biden Campaign added citations to their proposal after progressive activists noted that several portions were lifted word for word, Joshua Green noted that Biden has been caught in plagiarism scandals before, which led to the ex-veep dropping a run for president back in 1987. Green continued to liken Biden’s 2020 run to “a walk through a minefield,” but Berman figured that Democrats will probably defend Biden by saying President Donald Trump has gotten away with far worse transgressions. “Don’t you go to the experts – to the experts’ website – and lift some of their terminology and put it into your work?” Camerota asked. “That’s a footnote,” Berman answered, and Camerota eventually conceded that Continue reading "CNN’s Camerota Defends Biden Over Plagiarism Charge: ‘Don’t You Go to the Experts…and Lift Some of Their Terminology?’"

CNN Panel Calls Out Trump’s Attacks on AT&T Over CNN Coverage: ‘Completely Outrageous and Wrong’

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin took dead aim at President Donald Trump for his public endorsement of a boycott of the media corporation AT&T over the critical coverage its subsidiary, CNN, has given this administration: “It’s completely outrageous and wrong.” Trump posted a tweet earlier on Monday where he once again blasted CNN — a longtime nemesis — as “all negative” and “fake news,” without any specific evidence or claims. He went on to encourage US consumers to stop “using or subscribing” to CNN’s parent company so it would be “forced to make big changes” at the news channel. “The president is calling on Americans to boycott a big American company here because he doesn’t like coverage,” guest host John Berman noted on Anderson Cooper 360. “When I heard that, saw that tweet, I thought of what Attorney General [Bill] Barr said lasted week, where he said to CBS, Continue reading "CNN Panel Calls Out Trump’s Attacks on AT&T Over CNN Coverage: ‘Completely Outrageous and Wrong’"

CNN’s Berman and Trump Campaign Press Sec Clash Over POTUS’ ‘Nasty’ Remark: Comments Seem ‘Pretty Clear’

CNN’s John Berman and Trump 2020 press secretary Kayleigh McEnany clashed tonight over President Donald Trump‘s comments about Meghan Markle ahead of his royal visit. The Duchess of Sussex had been critical of Trump during the 2016 campaign, and when informed of this in an interview with The Sun, the president remarked that he didn’t know she was so “nasty.” And as the arguing over that comment and the media coverage continues, Berman asked McEnany to just agree that Trump said the word “nasty” aloud, despite his tweet. She said Trump wasn’t denying that he used the word “nasty,” just that his point is he was referring to her comments. “Is Continue reading "CNN’s Berman and Trump Campaign Press Sec Clash Over POTUS’ ‘Nasty’ Remark: Comments Seem ‘Pretty Clear’"

Ex-FBI General Counsel Jim Baker: No Spying on Trump’s Political Strategies; ‘Focus was on Russia’

Former FBI General Counsel Jim Baker pushed back on allegations of inappropriate spying on the Trump campaign during an appearance on CNN’s New Day Thursday morning. Host John Berman led a wide-ranging and remarkably informative discussion of Russian interference into U.S. elections, and Baker has become something of a central figure for the conspiracy media set who have been parroting President Donald Trump’s dismissive claims that the Mueller investigation was nothing but a “witch hunt” and “hoax.” Yes, Baker is considered by Sean Hannity, and others like him, to be a “deep state” figure that was part of a thus-far failed effort to bring down Trump. At the end of the nearly 10-minute interview, Berman plainly asked: “Did the FBI spy on the Trump campaign as Attorney General suggested?” Baker opened by first saying that, to him, the word “spy” has a “negative connotation.” He then Continue reading "Ex-FBI General Counsel Jim Baker: No Spying on Trump’s Political Strategies; ‘Focus was on Russia’"

CNN’s John Berman: ‘No Discernible Difference’ Between Donald Trump Rally and HBO’s ‘Veep’

CNN’s John Berman noted that President Donald Trump’s joke that prompted an audience member at a rally to call for immigrants to be shot was nearly identical to a recent scene on the currently-airing HBO comedy series Veep.   At the Trump rally in Panama City Beach, Florida on Wednesday, an audience member yelled “shoot them” when Trump rhetorically asked how you could stop people illegally crossing the border. Trump responded by saying “only in the Panhandle you can get away with that statement.” CNN New Day anchor John Berman compared the clip from Trump’s Wednesday rally to a moment on the HBO comedy dealing with the character of Jonah Ryan (played by actor Timothy Simons), who is running for president in the currently-airing final season.

John Bolton and CNN’s John Berman Spar Over Trump-Putin Call: ‘The One That’s Missing the Point is You!’

National Security Advisor John Bolton appeared on CNN’s New Day Wednesday morning to discuss the ongoing uprising in Venezuela, but the conversation with host John Berman got remarkably testy over what appears to be some confusion surrounding a possible call between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. By any measure, Berman was attempting to conduct as straight as interview possible, and asking about Putin’s involvement in the events unfolding in Venezuela were entirely appropriate given reports that Nicolas Maduro was ready to depart the country until Russia interceded with a phone call. But Bolton appeared to be remarkably defensive, seeing questions about Trump and Putin to be rooted in some sort of collusion narrative. Berman explained that his question about Trump calling Putin was from a transcript from Bolton’s previous visit earlier in the morning on Fox & Friends, to which Bolton interrupted with ” If you want to Continue reading "John Bolton and CNN’s John Berman Spar Over Trump-Putin Call: ‘The One That’s Missing the Point is You!’"

Scaramucci Defends Trump’s Lies on CNN: ‘The Market Has Priced Him’

Anthony Scaramucci, the former White House communications director, appeared on CNN to debate President Donald Trump‘s tendency to lie with New Day host John Berman. As Trump approaches 10,000 false or misleading statements in office, by the Washington Post‘s count, Berman asked Scaramucci, who founded a hedge fund, what the president’s dishonesty does to markets. “The market has priced him,” Scaramucci said. “They’ve priced him as a liar?” Berman asked. “They’ve priced his personality,” Scaramucci replied. “Any other president that acted like Donald Trump, that market would be zigging and zagging way harder than it is right now,” he continued. “The market’s priced him. What does that tell you about the market? The market’s a smart collective group of people, men and women, and they recognize that the president’s actually way more stable, way more rational than he comes across when he’s saying that his Continue reading "Scaramucci Defends Trump’s Lies on CNN: ‘The Market Has Priced Him’"

‘Breaking Wind News’: CNN’s New Day Mocks Trump’s Over the Top Rally Speech

CNN’s New Day had a go at President Donald Trump Friday morning, ridiculing a couple of odder moments in which the commander in chief boasted about his expertise in wind and bragged about his “elite” status. Co-host John Berman set up the segment by citing fellow anchor Alisyn Camerota’s curious usage of “breaking wind news” (though Camerota’s reaction suggests that he set her up)  before playing a couple of clips of Trump’s display of his signature braggadocio the New Day panel took turns mocking Trump’s audacious claims. After viewers saw Trump bragging about the “best schools” he attended, Berman reasonably noted that there is no way of knowing what sort of student Trump was since he allegedly directed his lawyer to keep the school from releasing his grades. There is a reason why President Trump, or any other stand-up performer for that matter, hits the same material during a performance: Continue reading "‘Breaking Wind News’: CNN’s New Day Mocks Trump’s Over the Top Rally Speech"

George Papadopoulos: ‘I Was Shocked and Horrified’ by Russian Offer for Info on Clinton’s Emails

Former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos explained to CNN’s John Berman how he felt when he was told the Russians had thousands of Hillary Clinton’s emails and wanted to help them in the 2016 presidential election. “You knew it was wrong that the Russians had the information,” Berman asked. “Absolutely. That’s why I notified the FBI,” Papadopoulos said. “You didn’t notify them until they came and knocked on your door,” Berman clarified. “And again this has to do with the Barr summery of the Mueller report here, because he writes that ‘the special counsel did not find the Trump campaign or anyone associated with the Russian government despite multiple offers from Russian affiliated individuals to assist in the Trump campaign’. Multiple offers. You weren’t only one who received an offer and didn’t go to authorities.” Berman asked why didn’t Papadopoulos or anyone else went to the authorities when they Continue reading "George Papadopoulos: ‘I Was Shocked and Horrified’ by Russian Offer for Info on Clinton’s Emails"

Howard Dean Slams Tulsi Gabbard: Doesn’t ‘Know What She’s Doing’ and ‘Not Qualified’

Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean thinks all the 2020 Democratic candidates are qualified for the presidency, except for Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. “I’m really not gonna take sides in this,” said Dean on CNN this morning, when asked for his thoughts on Democratic presidential candidates. “There are no candidates, with one exception, that I really don’t think should be president.” “And who’s that exception?” asked CNN’s John Berman. Dean replied, “Tulsi Gabbard. I don’t think she knows what she’s doing and I don’t think she should be qualified. She’s not qualified.” The former governor and DNC chairman based this on a report that Gabbard had met with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad last year, as well as Continue reading "Howard Dean Slams Tulsi Gabbard: Doesn’t ‘Know What She’s Doing’ and ‘Not Qualified’"

CNN’s John Berman, Alisyn Camerota Hilariously Go Off the Rails Over Gillette’s ‘Toxic Masculinity’ Ad

There was some amusing banter between CNN’s John Berman and Alisyn Camerota on Wednesday when they held a discussion about Gillette’s controversial new ad about “toxic masculinity.” The hygienics company has been drawing criticism lately from those who say their new razors commercial demonizes men by drawing a connection between facial hair and negative male stereotypes. As CNN’s New Day panel debated the online commotion over the ad, Camerota remarked that her co-anchor is a man, and that’s when the discussion fell apart from laughter on all sides. Here’s the transcript.
Camerota: Yeah, I mean, you’re a man. What’s wrong — Berman: Appreciate that. Thank you. Finally, finally I get the recognition I deserve. Camerota: And you’re great. Berman: Keep trying, you’re digging yourself out of that hole. Camerota: My point is what’s wrong — since when did role modeling some sort of behavior on TV become virtue-signaling? Rep. Jackie Speier Mocks Trump Claim Democrats Are Calling Him to Defect Over Shutdown: ‘In His Dreams’

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) made fun of President Donald Trump’s claims that Democrats have been calling him offering their support to help end the partial government shutdown on Tuesday during her appearance on CNN. “No, I think maybe in his dreams he’s gotten phone calls from Democrats,” Spier told CNN’s John Berman. “There’s not a Democrat that I’m aware of, in the House, that would have called the President to say, ‘I want to work with you and I want this wall to go up.’ There’s not a Democrat that wants to see five billion dollars wasted.” Spier said there is technology available for the U.S. to use on the U.S.-Mexico border that would work “much better” to help stop illegal immigration than a wall or steel slats. When asked by Berman if she thinks Trump is making up his claim, Spier said she thinks he “makes Continue reading "Rep. Rep. Brooks Clashes With CNN’s Berman: ‘Don’t Make Up Stuff and Try to Mislead the Public’

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) clashed with CNN’s John Berman during a lengthy interview Friday morning over the president’s demand for a border wall and threat to declare a national emergency to circumvent Congress and fund it. Berman kicked off the interview by confronting Brooks with his 2015 comments bashing then-president Obama for using executive authority to buck Congress. “Why does it appear you have one set of rules for President Obama, and another for President Trump?” Berman asked. Brooks responded with a testy ad hominem: “Well John, once again you guys at CNN are misleading the public.” The Alabama Republican argued the circumstances are different, stating there is a “national emergency of major proportions” at the border. “So if you want to talk apples and apples, let’s do it, but don’t make up stuff and try to mislead the public,” Brooks added. “What’s the emergency?” Berman pressed. Rep. Ruben Gallego sat down with CNN’s John Berman to talk about a six-page letter sent by House Republicans expressing concern over the “thoroughness and impartiality” of both the Russian probe and the investigation of Hillary Clinton‘s emails. “On their way out the door, as part of this six-page letter, one of the main points is they still think there should be an additional special counsel brought on to investigate James Comey‘s investigation of Hillary Clinton. What’s your reaction?” Berman asked the Democratic lawmaker. “This is just pure obsession by these Republicans,” Gallego replied. “Hillary Clinton is no longer a presidential candidate. The president is Donald Trump. He has clearly done some levels of violation that should be investigated. They need to get over it. Hillary Clinton is not your president.” He added: “She’s not the person that should be investigated. The collusion, the crimes that Continue reading "Dem Rep Slams House GOP’s Renewed Talk of Hillary Clinton Email Investigation: ‘Just Pure Obsession’"

CNN’s Berman: GOP Staffer Told Me Mattis Departure ‘Makes Impeachment More Likely’

CNN’s John Berman says he has spoken to people in the GOP who think President Trump‘s impeachment is more likely now that James Mattis is leaving the White House. The Defense Secretary’s departure sent shockwaves throughout the political world on Thursday, especially since his resignation letter was a thorough rebuke of Trump’s approach to military and foreign policy. As CNN’s New Day examined the connotations of these developments, Berman said Mitch McConnell basically said “holy crap” when the Senate Majority Leader announced his distress over Mattis’ leave-taking. “I have to say what the political ramifications are,” Berman said. “I heard from a Republican staffer on the Hill who said this makes impeachment more likely. I don’t need to tie this into the Russian investigation right now…but the ripple effects of this are that Republicans are shaken and their support for the president is shaken and that might be an Continue reading "CNN’s Berman: GOP Staffer Told Me Mattis Departure ‘Makes Impeachment More Likely’"

DNC Chair Tom Perez on Dem Controlled House: I’m Sure We’ll Expect Hearings Into Trump

Tuesday night’s midterm election results saw the Democratic party take control of the House of Representatives.  What does this mean for the checks and balances of power in Washington D.C.? Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez outlined the Democratic agenda for the next two years and revealed that he was “sure we’ll expect” hearings into President Donald Trump. During a Wednesday morning post-election visit with CNN morning host John Berman, Perez first listed a number of issues House Democrats will want to tackle including health care, an infrastructure bill and investing in public education. But when asked about how oversight of the executive branch, Perez noted that the one-party control in the nation’s capital has meant there has been no checks and balances, calling oversight of the Executive Branch a constitutional duty. “I am sure we will expect hearings because we have a constitutional duty of oversight in Continue reading "DNC Chair Tom Perez on Dem Controlled House: I’m Sure We’ll Expect Hearings Into Trump"
