Screen Shot 2016-04-28 at 5.16.25 PMYesterday, the GQ profile on Melania Trump hit the Internet like a ton of Slovenian bricks. She has been extremely quiet during this election season, which the profile sheds light on by highlighting her “traditional” views of her marriage and role within it. Her noted reticence made the feature on her all the more interesting, especially since, thus far, her impact on the campaign has been dictated by others‘ narratives, not her own. Interestingly, she kept the focus on herself last night by speaking out about the profile, calling it “dishonest.” She railed especially hard against the woman who did the reporting, saying, “Julia Ioffe, a journalist who is looking to make a name for herself, clearly had an agenda when going after my family.” Whether Ioffe went “after” Trump’s family back in Slovenia is a matter of opinion and depends completely on what you Continue reading "After Melania Trump Said She Didn’t Like Her GQ Profile, Its Author Got Anti-Semitic Threats"

Melania Trump Trashes ‘Dishonest Media’ After GQ Profile of Her Comes Out

Melania Trump took a page out of her husband’s book tonight by trashing the “dishonest media” after GQ released a profile of her featuring an interview she did with Julia Ioffe. In the profile, Ioffe explores the potential future First Lady’s Slovenian background, speaking with people who knew her all those years ago. There’s a particular focus on her father Viktor Knavs, his resemblance to The Donald, and a revelation about a secret half-brother:
Viktor has never acknowledged his son, Denis Cigelnjak, who is now 50. The existence of Melania’s half brother has never been reported, and although he had never spoken to the media, he told me his story and then gave me permission to retrieve the relevant court documents from the Slovenian archives.
Trump was apparently unaware of Denis and asked Ioffe to respect her father’s privacy. She also denied reports that her father had been Continue reading "Melania Trump Trashes ‘Dishonest Media’ After GQ Profile of Her Comes Out"

GQ Profiles Melania Trump Whose Politics Are ‘Between Me and My Husband’

melania trumpGQ published an eye-opening profile of the GOP frontrunner’s third and current wife, the former model Melania Trump, whose actual political views, she avers, are “between me and my husband.” Julia Ioffe writes:
While Donald often says that Melania would make a stellar First Lady, the former model offers little clue about what a move to the White House would mean for her. She once said she would be “traditional,” like Jackie Kennedy, and on the question of what causes she might support, she has noted she is already involved in “many, many charities.” She elaborated: “Many different charities involving children, involving many different diseases.” […] To Melania’s traditional way of thinking, Trump’s aspirations for the White House have little to do with her. The same can be said for his more controversial positions, like his general disdain for immigrants, even though his wife became an Continue reading "GQ Profiles Melania Trump Whose Politics Are ‘Between Me and My Husband’"

Liz Mair on Incendiary Melania Ad: You Can Blame Me But I Don’t Care Because ‘The Ad Worked’

Screen-Shot-2016-04-02-at-2.52.01-PMIt was the ad that launched a thousand blog posts.

Liz Mair of Make America Awesome appeared on CNN Tonight to talk to Don Lemon about the infamous ad featuring Melania Trump that spurred Donald Trump into attacking Heidi Cruz.

Trump blamed Cruz for the initial attack on his wife in spite of the fact that it was done by the Make America Awesome superPAC. Mair responded to that by telling Lemon, “The truth is it’s me.  It’s just me.”

When asked if Cruz had any involvement in the ad, she said this:

I — absolutely not.  Of course he didn’t.  I mean next thing Donald Trump is going to be out there claiming that it was like the Illuminati or something and that will be just as equally plausible as what he’s claiming here.  No, it’s totally bogus. People can blame me if they don’t like the Continue reading "Liz Mair on Incendiary Melania Ad: You Can Blame Me But I Don’t Care Because ‘The Ad Worked’"

Don Lemon Calls Out Latest Katrina Pierson BS: ‘I Think You’re Being Very Disingenuous’

While doubling up on hosting duties Tuesday on CNN’s morning show New Day, Don Lemon interviewed Katrina Pierson, the bullet-wearing, unhinged Twitter rampaging, walking spellcheck squiggly line who moonlights as a spokesperson for the Donald Trump campaign. And isn’t it always a party when Pierson appears on cable news to defend her boss’ latest nonsense?

Yes. Yes it is.

As the conversation between Lemon and Pierson veered into the recent national embarrassment story about Trump retweeting a less-than-flattering photo of Heidi Cruz opposite his how-did-he-land-her wife Melania, Pierson safely identified the real victim here. “There’s only been on wife attacked this cycle. And that is Melania Trump.”

“There’s no such thing as an attack on Heidi Cruz!” she remarkably asserted, clearly insulting Lemon’s intelligence, as well as any fool watching New Continue reading "Don Lemon Calls Out Latest Katrina Pierson BS: ‘I Think You’re Being Very Disingenuous’"

In Radio Interview, Trump Proves That He Just Can’t Let Anything Go

trump cruzSpeaking to Charlie Sykes in a Wisconsin AM radio interview Monday morning, Donald Trump proved to the world that he can’t let anything go.

Challenged to address the utter lack of statesmanship in his handling of the current spat between the GOP frontrunner and Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump would only insist — over and over again — that Cruz started it.

A super-PAC first dredged up images of Trump’s wife and then-girlfriend Melania Trump, which she posed for as part of a GQ photo shoot. Trump blamed Cruz for the photos’ newfound exposure, and, in turn, threatened to “spill the beans” on Cruz’s wife, Heidi.

“Remember, we’re not on a playground,” Sykes said, “we’re running for President of the United States.”

Why Is Ted Cruz Getting a Total Pass For Attack on Donald Trump’s Wife?

I get that the media has gotten the memo that Donald Trump is the greatest threat to civilization since NBC’s “The Slap,” but the controversy surrounding the Trump v Ted Cruz wife-dissing battle has revealed a stunning bit of tunnel vision, particularly among liberals. While everyone piles on Trump for retweeting an unflattering photo comparison of Heidi Cruz and Melania Trump, they’re giving Cruz and his SuperPAC a complete pass for what amounts to a political sexual assault on Melania Trump. Both attacks were ugly; I would submit that the explicitly sexual nature of the attack on Mrs. Trump is worse, but for the sake of argument, let’s call them even.

Consider this introduction to the flap by Chris Hayes on Thursday night’s All In, in which he takes great pains to note that the PAC that attacked Melania Trump has “no direct connection” to Ted Cruz, then delights in Continue reading "Why Is Ted Cruz Getting a Total Pass For Attack on Donald Trump’s Wife?"

Heidi Cruz Gave a Small Address After Trump Threatened to ‘Spill the Beans’ On Her

Screen Shot 2016-03-23 at 12.21.22 PMTo catch you up, a few days ago, an anti-Donald Trump superPAC called Make America Awesome — which was previously known for such benign things as launching a petition for NBC to “unfire” Trump — took a shot at potential First Lady Melania Trump by using nude photos of her taken for a magazine in one of their ads.

Trump was furious that the superPAC would drag his wife into it, but as he has done in the past, he didn’t get mad at the right superPAC. This time, he took aim squarely at Ted Cruz, tweeting that Cruz’s campaign had better leave Melania out of their advertising or he would “spill the beans” on the candidate’s wife, Heidi Cruz.

Heidi herself was asked about this today and very carefully reiterated that she and her husband Continue reading "Heidi Cruz Gave a Small Address After Trump Threatened to ‘Spill the Beans’ On Her"

After Other Fox Hosts Dismiss Trump KKK Flap, Megyn Grills Huckabee for Defending Him

megyn huckabeeOn Fox News’ The Five earlier today, most of the hosts defended Donald Trump in the controversy over his refusal to disavow David Duke. All three of them dismissed it as silly liberal media bias. Hours later, Bill O’Reilly dismissed it as a “complete non-story” because Trump isn’t a racist. But on The Kelly File tonight, not only did Kelly take this controversy more seriously than her colleagues, but she actually did a pretty tough interview with the man defending Trump on this, Mike Huckabee. Kelly said it was “strange” for Trump to act like he didn’t know who David Duke was. Huckabee invoked Trump’s excuse that his earpiece wasn’t working, but Kelly didn’t buy that, saying, “But Trump heard!” Huckabee hedged a bit, but Kelly again said he clearly heard what Jake Tapper said because he repeated large parts of it.

melania trumpDuring Melania Trump‘s wide-ranging interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper tonight, Cooper asked Donald Trump‘s wife about the KKK controversy that’s dominated the news for the past day. Trump repeatedly said that her husband has disavowed David Duke “many times,” including two days prior, saying, “I don’t know why the media needs to ask him so many times, because he disavowed.” She also insisted that her husband is “not racist, he’s not anti-immigrant.”

Melania Trump told Anderson Cooper in an interview set to air tonight that she disagrees with her husband on “many things,” including his language. She made it clear that she lets Donald Trump “be who he is,” but does talk to him a lot, especially on things she disagrees with him on. When Cooper asked her to elaborate, Trumps said, “Many things. Some language, of course.” She specifically brought up how her husband repeated a woman calling Ted Cruz a pussy. She made it clear she had some words with him afterwards. screen_shot_2016-02-24_at_10.25.19_amAs part of their infinite-part series on Republican presidential frontrunner and recent Nevada caucus steamroller Donald Trump, Morning Joe presented a one-on-one interview Wednesday morning featuring co-host Mika Brzezinski putting the tough questions to First Lady hopeful Melania Trump. In one promising segment, Brzezinski asked Mrs. Trump to reconcile her husband’s harsh assessment of Mexican immigrants and others with her own status as an immigrant. Melania offered the sort of empathetic response you would expect:
MELANIA TRUMP: No, I don’t feel he insulted the Mexicans. He — he said illegal immigrants. He didn’t talk about everybody. He talked about illegal immigrants, and after a few weeks — like after two weeks giving him hard time and bashing him in the media, they turned around and said, you know what, he’s right. He’s right what he’s talking Continue reading "Mika Grills Melania: As Immigrant, Has Your Husband Gone Too Far?"

Rallygoer to Trump: ‘We Can’t Wait Until Melania Puts Class Back Into the First Lady’

A woman at Donald Trump‘s Iowa rally tonight said she and others can’t wait for Melania Trump to bring “class” back to the role of First Lady. The woman did not say anything directly about Michelle Obama, but simply told Trump, “We can’t wait until Melania puts class back into the First Lady.”
She continued, “She’s beautiful, and we can’t wait to see class.” Trump agreed with her and said, “She’s a great person.” He then made some remark about bringing his wife to Iowa before taking the woman’s question on the Keystone pipeline. Donald Trump: My Wife Is ‘Very Much Into’ Women’s Health Issues

On Wednesday, The New York Times style section published a long article the breaks down the seemingly non-existant role of Melania Trump in her husband’s presidential campaign. As the log line for the story reads, “The spouse of Donald J. Trump, who is more than a quarter-century younger than her husband, is little seen and less often heard.” Perhaps with that in mind, CNN’s Don Lemon asked Donald Trump in an interview set to air later tonight whether the American people can expect to see more of his fourth wife on the campaign trail in the near future. “I think very much so,” Trump said. “She’s very much into the whole women’s health issues,” he added, referencing an issue on which he could probably use the help. “I think she’ll be amazing and I think Ivanka’s going to be amazing,” Trump said, referencing his daughter, who has been far Continue reading "Donald Trump: My Wife Is ‘Very Much Into’ Women’s Health Issues"
