The National Enquirer may soon have a new owner. According to a Washington Post report, American Media Inc  — the parent company to the Enquirer — is “actively trying to sell off” the tabloid. In addition, according to one of WaPo’s sources for the report, the move to put the tabloid up for sale was prompted by the hedge fund manager at the firm that controls a majority stake, who apparently got “disgusted” by the Enquirer’s reporting as well as the longtime finally woes. Anthony Melchiorre controls Chatham Asset Management. The $4 Billion hedge fund controls an 80 percent stake. WaPo reports, citing two sources:
The decision to sell the tabloid resulted in part from pressure applied by Melchiorre, according to two of the people familiar with the discussions. He was motivated partly by the financial difficulties of the tabloid business, but also by his distaste for the Continue reading "Hedge Fund Which Owns National Enquirer Said to Be Looking to Sell Because They Are ‘Disgusted’ With Its Reporting"

It is snowing in Washington DC this Sunday and Trump — who earlier today talked about the “beauty and majesty” of the White House in the snow — apparently has the time to take to Twitter to poke at one of his perennial foes, Jeff Bezos. “So sorry to hear the news about Jeff Bozo being taken down by a competitor whose reporting, I understand, is far more accurate than the reporting in his lobbyist newspaper, the Amazon Washington Post,” Trump opined leaving it unclear if ‘Bozo’ was a typo or an intentional insult. “Hopefully the paper will soon be placed in better & more responsible hands!” Trump is apparently referring to a months-long investigation conducted by the National Enquirer. CNN reported on the investigation that resulted in a blaring headline on the Enquirer’s cover about the cheating photos that ended Bezos’ marriage:
The Enquirer said it had been investigating Bezos Continue reading "Trump Unleashes on ‘Jeff Bozo’ For Ownership of Washington Post, Says National Enquirer is ‘Far More Accurate’"

Joe Scarborough: Investigation of Jeff Bezos Was ‘Directed Hit Job’ by Pro-Trump National Enquirer

Joe Scarborough thinks National Enquirer committed a pro-Trump “hit job” against Jeff Bezos in light of how the tabloid is taking credit for the Amazon CEO’s divorce. Mediaite previously reported on how the Enquirer published several explicit text messages from Bezos’ extramarital affair as he prepares to finalize his divorce with his wife of 25 years. Last night, the Enquirer drew attention over a statement they released saying they followed Bezos for months to document his liaison. As Morning Joe talked about the news that Michael Cohen will publicly testify before Congress, Scarborough noted that Cohen and the Enquirer were both pivotal to President Donald Trump‘s illegal hush money schemes from 2016. Since Enquirer publisher David Pecker has already admitted to Robert Mueller that the tabloid allowed itself to be used as Trump’s attack vehicle, Scarborough wondered if their coverage of Bezos was an extension of that, given Continue reading "Joe Scarborough: Investigation of Jeff Bezos Was ‘Directed Hit Job’ by Pro-Trump National Enquirer"

WATCH: Rudy Giuliani Admitted Porn Star Payoff Was Related to Election

One of Donald Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani‘s many new defenses of Trump is that the scheme to pay off porn star Stormy Daniels and ex-Playboy model Karen McDougal had nothing to do with the campaign. But there’s at least one person complicating that assertion. And his name is Rudy Giuliani. On this past Sunday’s edition of This Week, host George Stephanopoulos confronted Giuliani about the mounting evidence that the hush-money payments were made or the purpose of influencing the outcome of the 2016 presidential campaign. Giuliani insisted that he could “produce 20 witnesses” who would say that Trump “was very concerned about how this was going to affect his children, his marriage.” Unfortunately, the universe can produce one extremely influential witness who said the payoff was about the election, and that it was then-Trump attorney Michael Cohen‘s “job” to make it “go away.” On the Continue reading "WATCH: Rudy Giuliani Admitted Porn Star Payoff Was Related to Election"

There’s been a lot of commotion lately about the three-way dynamic between Donald Trump, Michael Cohen and the National Enquirer, and a new report suggests that the president planned on suppressing decades worth of secrets that the tabloid knew about him before the 2016 election. According to New York Times, Trump and Cohen came up with a plan to buy all the dirt that the tabloid and American Media Inc. collected on him since the 1980s. This comes after the flurry of news regarding how Cohen secretly recorded his boss talking to him about the Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal hush money schemes, and also the fact that Cohen has implicated his boss as being directly involved in his campaign finance lawbreaking. From the report:
The existence of the plan, which was never finalized, has not been reported before. But it was strongly hinted at in a recording Continue reading "Trump Reportedly Wanted to Purchase, Bury Decades of Dirty Secrets National Enquirer Kept on Him"

On Saturday, Lukas Alpert, a media reporter for the Wall Street Journal, joined MSNBC’s David Gura to discuss the David Pecker‘s decision to cooperate with prosecutors and discuss his involvement in hush money deals involving Michael Cohen and Donald Trump. According to Alpert, the top National Enquirer boss’  decision to flip and accept an immunity deal may have been driven, at least in part, by financial woes at the National Enquirer and its parent company. “The bigger company is the American Media Inc., it’s a holding company, it encompasses the National Enquirer, as it’s flagship, US magazine, Life & Style, In Touch,” Alpert told Gura, stressing it was a print-heavy company whose magazines line supermarket checkouts. “This is newsstand driven, it is print — a very fast declining segment of the media industry,” he continued on. “They have been in bad shape financially, they have a very Continue reading "WSJ Reporter on MSNBC: It’s ‘Very Likely’ National Enquirer Would Have Collapsed if Pecker Didn’t Flip"

According to a bombshell new report from the Associated Press, The National Enquirer had a safe that contained “documents on hush money payments and other damaging stories it killed as part of its cozy relationship with Donald Trump.” The tabloid also touted the racist “birther” conspiracy theory about President Barack Obama, per AP, at the urging of former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen. The story comes hours after it was reported that David Pecker, the head of the National Enquirer, was granted immunity by federal prosecutors investigating Cohen’s payments to two women claiming to have had affairs with Trump. American Media Inc., the publisher of the Enquirer, purchased the affair story of Playboy model Karen McDougal in 2016 for $150,000 and killed it. Sources told AP that the safe, which contained documents related to a series of hush money payments, “was a great source of Continue reading "National Enquirer Reportedly Kept a Safe of Trump Secrets, Promoted Birtherism ‘With Cohen’s Involvement’"

A new report indicates that David Pecker, chairman of American Media Inc., publisher of the National Enquirer and longtime friend of President Donald Trump, is turning on the president by corroborating Michael Cohen‘s accounts in conversations with federal prosecutors. The Wall Street Journal says Pecker has been granted immunity as he talks to investigators about what he knows of Cohen’s hush money schemes on Trump’s behalf ahead of the 2016 election. The report says Pecker has been cooperating with investigators for months since he and his company were subpoenaed around the same time when investigators raided Cohen’s offices. Much of the information Pecker offered to investigators connects to his part in the efforts to suppress Trump’s alleged affair with Playboy model Karen McDougal. Previous reporting has described how the Enquirer bought the rights to McDougal’s story in 2016, but never released it because they supposedly wanted Continue reading "National Enquirer Chief David Pecker Reportedly Turns on Trump, Granted Immunity By Feds"

On This Week on Sunday, ABC Chief Legal Analyst and Mediaite founder Dan Abrams and retired Harvard Law Professor and omnipresent cable news guest Alan Dershowitz clashed over whether the National Enquirer, by purchasing a story for the express purpose of killing it, could be open to legal danger outside of the protection the First Amendment. The tabloid’s parent, American Media Inc. (AMI), paid Playboy model Karen McDougal $150,000 for the paper to have exclusive rights to the story, apparently with the intent to kill the story and prevent it from coming out before the election; essentially buying McDougal’s silence about Donald Trump having an extra-marital affair because it might hurt his chance at winning the election. Former personal attorney to the president Michael Cohen secretly recorded conversations with Trump, prior to the election, discussing that arrangement. This Week host George Stephanopoulos asked Abrams whether AMI could face any

The latest developments in the Michael Cohen case concern none other than the National Enquirer. Yesterday The Wall Street Journal reported that federal prosecutors subpoenaed the gossip publication’s records “related to its $150,000 payment to a former Playboy model for the rights to her story alleging an affair with Donald Trump.” And now, The Washington Post is reporting Cohen received “digital copies” of stories the Enquirer was going to run on the President before they ran. And yes, that apparently includes after his inauguration:
“Since Trump’s become president and even before, [Pecker] openly just has been willing to turn the magazine and the cover over to the Trump machine,” said one of the people with knowledge of the practice. During the campaign, “if it was a story specifically about Trump, then it was sent over to Michael, and as long as there were no objections from him, the story Continue reading "National Enquirer Reportedly Sent Copies of Trump Stories to Michael Cohen Before Publication"

A bombshell new investigative report indicates that the National Enquirer‘s parent company made secret payments in order to squash a second story that could’ve hurt President Donald Trump during the 2016 election. Multiple sources tied to American Media, Inc. (AMI) told The New Yorker‘s Ronan Farrow that the company paid $30,000 to Dino Sajudin, a former doorman at Trump Tower. The 2015 payment was reportedly made in order to buy exclusive rights to Sajudin as a news source, primarily over a rumor that Trump had a child with a former employee in the 1980s. From the report:
Six current and former A.M.I. employees, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they feared Continue reading "National Enquirer Reportedly Paid Off Former Trump Employee to Kill Story About Secret Child"
