CNN host Brian Stelter said Donald Trump’s military policy toward Iran is reflective of the “Fox-Trump feedback loop,” pointing to reports that the president backed off missile strikes against the country after conversations with Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Stelter, who made the comments on Sunday’s airing of Reliable Sources, began the segment by showing a 2015 clip of Meet the Press host Chuck Todd in which Trump said he gets his military advice from “the shows.” “Tucker Carlson, Fox host, has been staunchly in the anti-war camp, advising the president, pleading with the president not to talk to Iran,” Stelter observed. “But there’s also a pro-war faction at Fox. Sean Hannity talking about Trump bombing the hell out of Iran.” “Here is what’s interesting about what happened,” he continued. “The president pulled back from the strike plan, the hosts on Fox, some of them like Brian Continue reading "‘The Trump-Fox Feedback Loop’: CNN’s Stelter Analyzes the Pro and Anti-War Factions at Fox News"

CNN political analyst David Gergen says he thinks Fox News’ Tucker Carlson is a bigger influence on some of President Donald Trump’s decisions than any of the former presidents he’s spoken to recently. Gergen was speaking with Ana Cabrera on CNN Newsroom Sunday night, who was asking about a segment in Chuck Todd’s interview with Trump where he said he’s spoken with former presidents Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush. “Do you see their hands in any of the choices President Trump has made as president?” Cabrera asked Gergen. Gergen shot down the question, saying “I think these have been courtesy calls for the most part. I don’t think they swayed his decision making.” “Listen, Tucker Carlson, Fox anchor, had more influence in the president’s decision not to hit Iran than did any of the former presidents,” Gergen continued. “He is not turning to them as previous presidents Continue reading "CNN’s David Gergen Says Fox’s Tucker Carlson Has ‘More Influence’ on Trump Than Former Presidents"

Tucker Carlson Trashes John Bolton: A ‘Bureaucratic Tapeworm’ Who ‘Blunders Into Obvious Catastrophes’

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson opened his show Friday night praising President Donald Trump‘s decision not to bomb Iran and tearing into the president’s national security adviser, John Bolton. Carlson said Trump made the right call––knocking a CNN national security analyst “attack[ing] the president for not killing enough people”––before calling last night “a high point” for Trump:
“Bombing Iran would have ended his political career in a minute. There would be no chance of re-election after that. Ill-advised wars are like doing cocaine, the initial rush rises your poll numbers but the crash is inevitable.”
The reason the U.S. was so close to starting a war, he continued, was because “the neocons still wield enormous power in Washington,” particularly Bolton. Carlson recalled a fiery interview he had with Bolton, remarking upon how Bolton denied “ever being wrong ever, about anything”:
“According to John Bolton, [Iraq’s] a raging success. We Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Trashes John Bolton: A ‘Bureaucratic Tapeworm’ Who ‘Blunders Into Obvious Catastrophes’"

Tucker Carlson Torches the Koch Brothers: Conservatives Should Rethink If They’re Really ‘On Their Side’

Fox News host Tucker Carlson took a torch to a pair of the Republican party’s top donors on Wednesday night: Charles and David Koch. Carlson’s evolution from Koch defender to critic has been documented on this site, in a thorough piece by Caleb Ecarma. Carlson took his opposition to the billionaire brothers a step further Wednesday night with a lengthy monologue that first laid out the vast breadth of their wealth and political influence. The Fox News host did argue that the Kochs and their family (“who by the way are very nice people”), “have been grotesquely and repeatedly maligned by the media,” which has “convinced many conservatives that the Kochs much be on their side.” “In the case of the Kochs, conservatives might want to pause and rethink the relationship,” Carlson continued, before laying out the billionaires’ instances of conservative heresy. “They are… totally opposed to most conservative Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Torches the Koch Brothers: Conservatives Should Rethink If They’re Really ‘On Their Side’"

Tucker Carlson Has Reportedly Been in Trump’s Ear, Trying to Talk Him Out of Military Action Against Iran

Tucker Carlson has reportedly, privately, been advising President Donald Trump against military action in Iran. According to the Daily Beast, the Fox News primetime host has had a number of personal conversations with Trump — in which he is advocating his opposition to U.S. military action against Iran. Further, he has been criticizing Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton — who have adopted more hawkish positions on Iran. From the Beast’s report:
A source familiar with the conversations told The Daily Beast that, in recent weeks, the Fox News host has privately advised Trump against taking military action against Iran. And a senior administration official said that during the president’s recent conversations with the Fox primetime host, Carlson has bashed the more “hawkish members” of his administration.
Pompeo and Bolton have been at the forefront of what Pompeo has termed a “maximum Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Has Reportedly Been in Trump’s Ear, Trying to Talk Him Out of Military Action Against Iran"

Jim Acosta Disses Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson: They’re ‘Not Willing to Meet Me in the Schoolyard’

After firing a shot across the bow last week, CNN’s Jim Acosta is ramping up his attacks on Fox News, Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson. The White House correspondent is now suggesting his Fox News rivals receive talking points — even scripts — directly from the West Wing. Appearing on The Hugh Hewitt Show, Acosta tore into Fox News — likening much of its content to Cuban state television. “[At] certain hours of the day on Fox…it is very much a house organ for the president,” Acosta said. He added, “Have we ever witnessed a situation like that, where a network essentially just serves as an amplifier of the president’s message of the day? And to some extent, focused and fixated on the conspiracy theories that he spreads. That to me is very much the definition of propaganda and state TV.” Hewitt pressed Acosta — noting the Continue reading "Jim Acosta Disses Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson: They’re ‘Not Willing to Meet Me in the Schoolyard’"

Tucker Carlson Compares Pompeo’s Iran Comments to Colin Powell Before Iraq War: US ‘Still Paying a Price for That’

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson tonight drew a comparison between Secretary of State Mike Pompeo‘s comments about Iran and comments made by former Secretary of State Colin Powell before the Iraq war. Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan announced today that 1000 additional American troops are being sent to the Middle East, citing “hostile behavior” from Iran and saying, “The action today is being taken to ensure the safety & welfare of our military personnel working throughout the region & to protect our national interests.” Carlson tonight noted some of the international skepticism amid increasing tensions with Iran and how “the United States narrative is being questioned” on the attack on the two oil tankers. Pompeo said on Fox News Sunday yesterday that it’s “unmistakable” that Iran was behind the attack. Carlson compared those comments to what Powell was saying in the lead-up to the Iraq war:
“Pompeo says, Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Compares Pompeo’s Iran Comments to Colin Powell Before Iraq War: US ‘Still Paying a Price for That’"

Tucker Carlson tonight mocked Jim Acosta after the CNN White House correspondent swiped at the Fox News host in an excerpt of his book he shared publicly today. Carlson, as well as his colleague Sean Hannity, regularly blast and mock Acosta. After recent comments from Hannity, Acosta shared an anecdote from his book about when he encountered them and they didn’t say anything to his face: Acosta said it exposed their “fauxmacho man bullshit,” and in his tweet he dinged Hannity for not having Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Mocks Jim Acosta After CNNer Takes Shot at Him: ‘So Proud of Himself’"

After Fox News host Sean Hannity attacked CNN’s Jm Acosta in several segments on his show this week, the White House correspondent responded by sharing an excerpt of his book on Twitter that he claims exposes Hannity’s “fauxmacho man bullshit.” “Hearing Sean Hannity is taking some shots at me over my book,” Acosta tweeted this morning. “Two things Sean… #1 I offered to come on your show and talk about the book and you guys declined. Sad! #2 you’re in the book. It was that time you had a chance to say something to my face but didn’t. Enjoy!”

Tucker Carlson’s Curious Turn From Koch Brothers Evangelist to Their Harshest Critic at Fox News

Last week, Fox News star Tucker Carlson accused Republicans of rejecting economic patriotism out of fear they “might make the Koch brothers angry.” While he now castigates those lawmakers as being in the pocket of big Koch, Carlson himself has a long history of ties to the billionaires’ vast network. Contempt for Koch money has become a recurring theme on the 8 p.m. hour of Fox News prime-time. But Carlson once decried critics of Charles and David Koch, critics who attacked the billionaires in the same way he does now. Notably, Carlson warned in 2014 that Democrats were nearing McCarthyism after then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Koch influence in politics “un-American.” Carlson launched his latest broadside against the Kochs during a June 5 segment praising Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren’s “plan for economic patriotism,” which he used to hit Republicans not in favor of President Continue reading "Tucker Carlson’s Curious Turn From Koch Brothers Evangelist to Their Harshest Critic at Fox News"

Tucker Carlson Accuses George Soros of Trying to ‘Remake American Society’

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson took aim again at liberal philanthropist George Soros, saying he “has used his wealth to remake our society, American society.” Carlson pointed to the election of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, a Democrat, as proof of Soros’ influence. “In the city of Philadelphia, Soros backed Larry Krasner and the murder rate there is the highest that it has been in a decade,” Carlson said. Carlson spoke with William McSwain, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, who said “Philadelphia is the laboratory for where this experiment in Soros-funded prosecutors are playing out.” McSwain accused Soros of trying to implement a “radical agenda.” “He is taking what I would describe as an illegitimate, anti-democratic shortcut by trying to purchase [district attorney] elections … and presto, you’ve got criminal justice reform,” McSwain said. “Everything you’ve said is absolutely right,” Carlson responded. On Tucker Carlson Tonight, Glenn Greenwald blasted YouTube for demonetizing right-wing online shock jock Stephen Crowder’s channel in response to a vicious, years-long campaign of homophobic rhetoric the latter has directed at a gay Vox journalist, Carlos Maza. “YouTube caved in defense of the powerful,” Greenwald claimed. “That’s what they will always do. Defend the mob and the powerful at the expense of those who are marginalized.” Carlson, literally cackling, agreed, saying: “That is such a good point!” As to the power dynamics at play, Crowder has roughly four million subscribers to his YouTube channel and has amassed more than 833 million views on the site. In comparison, Maza is a journalist who has 122,000 followers on Twitter and covers tech and  media issues for Vox Media, which is partially owned by NBCUniversal and Comcast. “I find Crowder to be a contemptuous cretin. ‘Brace Yourself’: Tucker Carlson Praises Elizabeth Warren and Bashes GOP Economics in Show-Opening Shocker

Tucker Carlson is… Team Warren? In a stunner of a monologue Wednesday night, the Fox News host praised Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) — yes, Elizabeth Warren — for her newly-released economic proposal. “Yesterday, Warren released what she’s calling her ‘plan for economic patriotism,'” Carlson said. “Amazingly, that’s pretty much exactly what it is: Economic patriotism.” The Tucker Carlson Tonight host lauded the proposal as one that makes “obvious sense.” Specifically, Carlson appreciated Warren’s idea to have the government buy American when it can. “She says we need more workplace apprenticeship programs, because four-year degrees aren’t right for everyone,” Warren said. “That’s true. She says taxpayers ought to benefit from the research and development they fund. And yet, she writes, ‘we often see American companies take that research and use it to manufacture products overseas, like Apple did with the iPhone. The companies get rich, and American taxpayers have Continue reading "‘Brace Yourself’: Tucker Carlson Praises Elizabeth Warren and Bashes GOP Economics in Show-Opening Shocker"

Tucker Slams Buttigieg for Calling Out Trump’s Draft-Dodging, Suggests Mayor Exaggerated Military Service

Fox News host Tucker Carlson defended President Donald Trump’s draft deferments during the Vietnam War, arguing that “the left” has always maintained that the conflict was an “illegitimate war we couldn’t win.” Carlson brought up Trump’s lack of service during a segment attacking Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg, who has frequently cited his military service in Afghanistan to hit the president for avoiding the draft. “So many questions,” Carlson said after suggesting Buttigieg’s service may have been less notable than he has advertised. “I thought not serving in Vietnam which the left for my whole life has told us was an illegitimate war we couldn’t win. Since when did not serving in Vietnam, like Bill Clinton or Joe Biden, become disqualifying?” “There is kind of a theme with Buttigieg though, there’s a lot of judgment, a lot of moral outrage, and you wonder how much of it Continue reading "Tucker Slams Buttigieg for Calling Out Trump’s Draft-Dodging, Suggests Mayor Exaggerated Military Service"

Tucker Carlson Rips Daily Beast For IDing Troll Behind Pelosi Video: Ruling Class Wants ‘To Destroy You’

Fox News host Tucker Carlson ripped The Daily Beast after the online news outlet published a story identifying the troll who posted a widely-shared doctored video of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which was slowed to make her appear intoxicated. The man behind the Pelosi video, which went viral a few weeks ago after President Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani shared it, turned out to be a forklift driver who ran several small blogs and social media pages, but Carlson argued the clip was quickly forgotten and not worth covering. “One group of people did not forget [the Pelosi video], couldn’t forget, refused to forget, the press. They weren’t just angry, they were outraged,” Carlson said. “Somebody created an edited video. And it wasn’t like that time NBC edited the 911 call to make George Zimmerman sound like a racist murder.” He continued by specifically calling out Daily Beast Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Rips Daily Beast For IDing Troll Behind Pelosi Video: Ruling Class Wants ‘To Destroy You’"

Tucker Carlson Admits US Consumers Will Pay for Mexico Tariffs, Does Not Push Back When WH Official Claims Opposite

Tucker Carlson acknowledged the stark economic reality of President Donald Trump’s trade wars when he told his viewers that US consumers and businesses will likely bear the brunt of any tariffs imposed on Mexico, but the Fox News host notably refused to offer any pushback to a White House official who claimed the exact opposite just minutes later on his show. “Let’s be honest about what that would mean,” Carlson said at the top of his Friday night show, referring to the Trump administration’s threat of escalating five percent tariffs on Mexico. “The US imports $372 billion worth of goods from Mexico every year. The prices on all of those goods would likely go up, consumers would feel that, so would businesses. Critics claim that the tariffs would slow the U.S. economy and they are likely right. Over time they probably would.” Many high-ranking officials in the Trump Continue reading "Tucker Carlson Admits US Consumers Will Pay for Mexico Tariffs, Does Not Push Back When WH Official Claims Opposite"

‘Sleazy and Dishonest’: Fox News Host Tucker Carlson Attacks Mueller

Special Counsel Robert Mueller spoke out on the Russia investigation at a surprise press conference Wednesday morning, and while he did little more than summarize the 400-page report released last month, he’s facing attacks from media defenders of President Donald Trump. Fox News host Tucker Carlson joined in on that criticism Wednesday night, questioning the point of Mueller’s press conference and deriding the decorated law enforcement officer as “sleazy and dishonest.” Carlson questioned whether Mueller believes it’s “good for America” for Trump to be impeached, at first describing the special counsel charitably: “he seems like a patriotic character, served his country in Vietnam as a marine officer, by all accounts a decent man.” By the end of the interview, he had turned on Mueller. “You know the saddest thing about this moment?” Carlson said to his guest Ian Prior, a former Justice Department spokesman. “Is all Continue reading "‘Sleazy and Dishonest’: Fox News Host Tucker Carlson Attacks Mueller"

The prime-time hosts of Fox News followed the playbook of President Donald Trump in responding to criticism from Democratic hopeful Pete Buttigieg during his Sunday night town hall on their network: hit back ten times as hard. In his highly publicized town hall with anchor Chris Wallace, the South Bend, Indiana mayor and 2020 candidate noted that there was controversy about him even coming on Fox News at all. “I get where that’s coming from especially when you see what goes on with some opinion hosts on this network,” Buttigieg told Wallace. “I mean when you’ve got Tucker Carlson saying that immigrants make America dirty. When you’ve got Laura Ingraham comparing detention centers with children in cages to summer camps.” The Fox News opinion hosts singled out by Buttigieg did not hold back in response. For his part, 8 p.m. host Tucker Carlson dedicated the opening of Continue reading "WATCH: Fox News Prime-Time Hosts Destroy Pete Buttigieg Night After His Town Hall"
